Hmm, its only about 20 minutes long, literally an "episode" of Bardock. Slightly disappointing, but oh well, time to see if it was worth the wait...

As in you know where to watch it already? Not that I'm asking you to post where. Since that's not allowed. I'm just curious.

I looked around the links on the actual streaming website and one of them led to what looked like a listing to buy it?
I'm not sure, but I also found out the 20-minute runtime on the same page as well.
So mondo lame.

As in I managed to get the site to play the video after some...tinkering. The result means the video has to load really slow though, borderline dial-up. So, since its loading too slow for my tastes, I'm going to go watch Dexter and come back to it...

Glad they fixed Bardock to be battle damaged like he was in the original TV special though. Ooishi removing that was kind of irking me...

I hate to stray off topic, but i just finished watching Dexter and the ending is a doozy.

Well, hopefully someone will have the episode up somewhere within the next couple days. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Glad to hear they fixed the battle damage. That would have been a sort-of plot hole within itself.

Does Solid State Scouter play or a remix of it?

So I think I got the video working but right now it's loading really slowly and so far it's only shown a few commercials (Saikyo Jump, Dragon Ball Heroes and Ultimate Blast for anyone that's interested).

EDIT: Holy crap, it's starting! :D Music from 'Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans is present (the piece when Hatchiyack is revealed).

Anyone want a summary of the changes when I'm done with it? I'm writing one up for myself anyway, so I can post it if desired...

They just used it as a thumbnail. It's fully re-animated like everything else, otherwise it would stick out like a sore thumb.

EDIT: I'd give you guys a link to view it, but I'm not sure if it's within the rules, since it has been uploaded for streaming by the officials, it's just not intended for us. :?

EDIT 2: A Quick, Brief Review (So don't expect much):
So I just finished watching it and to be honest, it was everything I was expecting it to be. From what I can remember it pretty much followed the original Manga panel for panel except for a few changes, most notably the Super Saiyan transformation, which was expanded upon extremely well. It included that same 'fade in, fade out' effect that was used in Goku's first transformation (Y'know the thing where the hair goes yellow, then back to black) as well as having the obligatory lightening effects and the 'clenching fist so hard that it starts to bleed' thing. Apart from that most of the changes are pretty minor and what you would expect: different angles, characters in different positions, expanded fight scenes etc. (there was a neat camera pan at the start with Zarbon, Dodoria and Freeza outside the spaceship) The animation itself is also what you'd expect, the same style they used for the 'Dragon Ball Heroes' commercials and 'Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans' . It was very clean and a little to flat for my tastes, but the backgrounds were incredible, particularly the outer space ones. There were also a couple of water reflection shots that I thought were done very well and the reanimated shots from the Bardock special were a treat :) . The aliens seemed to lack shading as they seemed as flat as paper, although I'm not sure if their character designs warranted it as they were very simple and almost made the flatness look intentional. Bardock himself was drawn pretty well and their were a lot of 'badass' walking shots and camera pans of him.
It was easier to take Chilled seriously in this special as he seemed a lot more intimidating, especially with his hood on. I think it had something to do with Naho Ooishi's art style that didn't make Chilled's character very believable in the Manga . I can't put my finger on it, but I think Naho had a more chubby, comic relief styled approach to the character while the Anime made him a bit more angular. That doesn't necessarily make Naho Ooishi a bad artist or make Chilled's character design bad, it just feels out of place.
The fighting was very much like 'PTETSS' (although there wasn't a lot of it), in that everything was sped up a great deal, but you really felt the impact and every hit thrown felt extremely brutal so I was satisfied.
For music a lot of pieces were taken from 'PTETSS' and I'm sure some were also taken from the 'Ultimate Tenkaichi' cut scenes, I'm not sure if their were any original pieces in this special.
The story in the Anime, as was the case with Manga, was very undeveloped. The relationship between Beri and Bardock was established a little too quickly and it felt very reminiscent of Tapion and Trunks and as epic as Bardock's transformation was, it still felt a little random and the circumstances didn't feel "right" for the transformation, especially when you think about the time the connection between Bardock and Beri had to develop. The story closed out with multiple questions left un-answered and I was little disappointed by the ending credits (I was at least hoping for a new instrumental). :P
Overall, it was a neat, interesting little special, that didn't really feel Dragon Ball (but i have no problem with this since the old TV specials had a very different tone to the series) but it's one of those things that would've benefited from a longer run time, especially since they were given the opportunity because it was animated, but like its Manga counter-part it felt very rushed. Characters, situations and events could've been expanded upon greatly and the animation was a little plain but overall, I can't say I was disappointed.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Most of the complaints about the manga's pacing are still sort of present in the anime, but it does feel like it flows better. The fights aren't as rushed, except Toobi and Cavira. Animation is Ultimate Tenkaichi/Blast opening video quality too. Very pretty, though Chilled is NOWHERE near as cute and childlike in this special. He is much more reminiscent of Freeza, and looks sort of like an adult instead of the childlike qualities he had in the manga.

That said, my summary thing, basically used to note the changes between the anime and the manga versions is done if you guys want it posted. I'm not just going to throw it up here without asking though, since the whole thing is spoilery.

So then, here's RTMPdump customized for downloading Episode of Bardock. You can download the streaming file yourselves if the flv file itself isn't blocked in other countries. Probably the downloading will be interrupted halfway, so in that case you can just run the batch file again and the downloading will resume.

Oh I have no problem paying money for it; I'd love to purchase the 2008 special if Funi ever gets their hands on it; the thing is Toei (or Shueisha) creating a product like this and then not making it available for purchase, even in Japan, that I find weird. You'd think that if you put so much effort into making a product that you'd want to also put it out on the market to make money.
I don't have vast marketing knowledge, but in Japan is a common thing, that franchises are mostly making money on acompaniing products. Studio Pierot himself said in interview, that they don't make money with series itself, but it's mechandise, which is not DVDs, but rather things like figures, bags, clothing and such.
I think that these special serve more as 20 minute long promos and commercials to promote the series and making it more unique that it's not that widely available, but the more focus will be on merchandise. As it was one of the reasons Kai ended.
And it ended besides Dragon Ball is one of the most prominent export article of TOEI.
So I can imagine they don't care much about these specials, also 2008 was tied with the manga/anime we know, but this special is adaptation of manga which wasn't released outside Japan, so I don't see the point about making it available online for the whole planet.

+ there is still this thing rule companies sometimes use: ''This s**t is for Japan. Period.''
FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat: Funky_Strudel
PS5: Dynamixx88
Trust me, I'm millenial and a designer.
