Kenji Yamamoto(No Kai) vs Bruce Faulconer(All)
Before you say 'UnbiasedDBZfan you're being unfair to Kenji Yamamoto!' I just want you to realize that Bruce Faulconer is by far the most hated composer on this forum and that is not opinion. So in words that a two year old could understand/point out you can't use music from Dragon Ball Kai to justify why Yamamoto is superior to Faulconer. So it is fair in a way. Anyway who wins?

Actually I think Menza is the most hated.
At least Team Faulconer had some variation between each individual saga compared to Menza.
Then comes up the argument of how much of Yamamoto's music is actually original.

None really. I ain't gonna say who's superior Faulconer or Yamamoto but what I will say is at least Faulconer/Crew made their own music. I can say that at least 80% of Yamamoto's work is not based on originality.Gonstead wrote:Actually I think Menza is the most hated.

You're preaching to the choir on that one. I don't exactly have any questions about it in that respect.
One song -- Hell, not even A DOZEN SONGS -- consists of "80%" of the man's musical composition catalog with the franchise, however.

Okay I tend to over-exaggerate my claim, but it's still a chunk of the man's work though. Just saying.VegettoEX wrote:You're preaching to the choir on that one. I don't exactly have any questions about it in that respect.

Re: Kenji Yamamoto(No Kai) vs Bruce Faulconer(All)
Personally I enjoy Faulconer, I guess growing up with him helped that. But the Yamamoto scores were always awesome. Especially Budokai series and Burst Limit, I loved all those compositions from the menus to the fight. Don't know why people hate Faulconer though, I guess because every situation has a theme song, there's no quiet. That's my only problem.

Re: Kenji Yamamoto(No Kai) vs Bruce Faulconer(All)
I, once again, think some of you folks are taking "apathy" and transforming it in your mind into "hate".
I greatly dislike a lot of that replacement score, but far more than disliking it, I simply ignore it. It wasn't a part of my childhood, and was never a part of the show that I watched for fun. It was far more obnoxious back when we weren't getting subtitled releases, but nowadays it simply... "exists". Barely.
For a lot of folks my age, I'd wager that's how they feel now, too.

Re: Kenji Yamamoto(No Kai) vs Bruce Faulconer(All)
Actually I grew up with 4 versions of DBZ. The original Japanese version. I started watching it from 1990 to around 1993 and it was fun.(I've been in the West for so long my Japanese has gotten rusty so no I can not speak fluent Japanese so don't ask) I then watched the Funi/Ocean/Saban 1996 dub. It was cut. WHY WAS IT CUT? Then I watched the Funi in house dub from 1999-2000/2(Mind you I live in Canada and a lot of us hate the Funi dub more then you). Then I watched the AB Groupe/Westwood Group/2nd Ocean Dub from 2000-2003. So I have a lot of musical experiences on my side. I'm not allowed to answer who I think is better because it would defeat the point of why I asked this question in the first place.VegettoEX wrote:I, once again, think some of you folks are taking "apathy" and transforming it in your mind into "hate".

Re: Kenji Yamamoto(No Kai) vs Bruce Faulconer(All)
It's hard to say which composer I like more, and which one I dislike more. In my opinion, both have shown their skills quite impressively. Both have memorable themes. The only reason I'd go with Kenji Yamamoto is because I'm a huge fan of the work he's done with most of the video game soundtracks. And his compositions for Kai were all excellent.

So you're comparing Kenji Yamamoto's insert songs in Z and the video games to Faulconer Productions' entire score for Dragon Ball Z. Now how is that fair in anyway.

I think you're definitely blowing things out of proportion. The majority of people who bring Faulconer up shower him down with praise. Everybody else is pretty apathetic.UnbiasedDBZfan wrote:Since Bruce Faulconer is despised on this website and Yamamoto isn't as much, leaving out Yamamoto's Kai work will even the odds.
Even if that was true it still isn't a good enough reason to compare such different products. It also isn't enough to warrant all these threads which seem designed to split this community.

Looks like somebody needs a good history lesson. After the God awful Funimation 'dub' produced in Production with BLT Studios, Funimation decided to release to release Dragon Ball Z several months later. It was released in September 13th 1996.AgitoZ wrote:*nods*UnbiasedDBZfan wrote:September 13th 1996 already did that young man.

You keep misreading and misunderstanding what people are saying for facts that are already widely known, so (understandably, but not particularly welcome here) they are shooting back off-kilter responses at you.

Re: Kenji Yamamoto(No Kai) vs Bruce Faulconer(All)
That's very untrue, there are tons of fans of Faulconer Productions' music. Plus with the music scandal, Yamamoto's reputation is tarnished with a lot of people. You can't use that to justify removing his work on Kai. There are people who hate a score, and people who like it.UnbiasedDBZfan wrote:Since Bruce Faulconer is despised on this website and Yamamoto isn't as much, leaving out Yamamoto's Kai work will even the odds.Son Gohan Daimao wrote:So you're comparing Kenji Yamamoto's insert songs in Z and the video games to Faulconer Productions' entire score for Dragon Ball Z. Again, I don't see how it's fair to erase a large part of a composer's career when comparing him to another composer. There ARE tons of people who think Faulconer Productions' is better than Kenji Yamamoto regardless of his score for Kai. You're being unfair to both of them. Yamamoto because you're not willing to take into account (probably) the biggest thing he did while involved with the franchise. Faulconer Productions' because you are saying that they are incapable of comparison to Kenji Yamamoto without disregarding Dragon Ball Kai.
There was nothing fair about this topic.
