Dynasty Dragon Ball anyone?

Post by SHINOBI-03 » Thu Dec 22, 2011 10:40 am

With the lack of interest in DBZ fighting games, would you like to have a Beat-Em Up DBZ game based on the Dynasty system?

Dynasty Warriors series made spin-off releases based on other anime series'. First was Gundam with three releases, then it was Fist of the North Star (Ken's Rage), and then we got BLEACH (Soul Resurrección), and coming soon we will get One Piece (Dynasty Pirates).

I've only played the second Dynasty Gundam game, and at first I enjoyed the mindless destruction where I destroy hundreds of enemies as fast as possible. But then I felt bored since the game play felt repetitive. I did like however the vast amount of unlockables, the what-if scenarios in the game, characters meeting other characters from different continuities, and characters piloting other mechs. But in the end, didn't like the game play that much.

Your thoughts?

I'm not too familiar with Dynasty Warriors, but what you describe kind of sounds like Dragon Ball Z: Sagas, which I actually enjoyed but got pretty terrible reviews.

It's a beat-em up game like Sagas was, but these are better made.

Check this game play for Ken's Rage to get an idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yn3L-6XwPE8

I'd love a game like that if it was made well like I hear the Gundam ones were. It'd be a great chance for them to do something original for a story in the game too.

Ugh....we're like flooded with Musou games already. We don't need another!
Even One Piece has a Musou game coming out soon.

One thing I have to comment, though, is that Hokuto Musou (aka Ken's Rage) was a pretty good game. Sadly underrated in North America. I hope Koei makes a Hokuto Musou 2.
The world is your's.

Meh, I played a demo of Kens Rage awhile back, wasn't a fan of it. Still, the new One Piece Musou game coming out looks really good. Likely buy for me.

I really don't think DBZ would work this way.

It's a neat idea and honestly if there weren't so many Dynasty warrior games out there already I'd probably be all for it. The problem is, if you've played one game you have pretty much played them all. If nothing else it would be an interesting change of pace but I wouldn't want it to be the norm.

Based on my experience with the Gundam game, I think a Dragon Ball version can work if it starts from the first arc since it had more random enemies, especially the Red Ribbon Army. The problem comes with the Z era. We know the Namek arc can work since it have Freeza's army, but what good random enemies that could be used for Saiyan, AH and Boo arcs?

I think that's the biggest problem any Dragonball Z game outside of a fighting game has to face; and no matter which way you look at it, it always comes out looking forced. All of the villains were so specific that it's really hard to have a game that doesn't just work around them. However I'd like to see this with a Dragonball game. I don't know if a full fledge game would be worth the money; like I said there are so many Dynasty games (and they do get repetitive at times) but it would be a fun mini-mode or like story mode element.

Bardock vs hordes of Furiza soldiers with Solid State Scouter as BGM. DBZ needs a game like this, it could have in depth fighting mechanics for fighting the stronger people, not only ground but air combat! and energy beams!

They did that with Sagas, and it felt forced and silly.

They can alter some things to make it not feel so forced I guess.

No thanks, I'd rather not have to go through an army of bears with swords to get through the next story chapter.

But didn't we do the same thing in Advanced Adventure? And everybody loved that game.

What about the Legacy of Goku GBA games? I thought they did it pretty good.

I don't know if I'd want one based specifically on the Dynasty system. I've played a demo of a Dynasty game and I didn't like it at all (though I did enjoy the Fist of the North Star demo and look forward to playing through the full game). I loved Devil Kings/Sengoku Basara though, which is a similar game. So I'd be interested in a DragonBall game in this genre, but maybe not specifically from Koei.

As much is I like the Warriors style I'd rather have the Basara style.

That would fit Dragonball perfectly.
