Pioneer Movies Released Out of Order

Post by Craddle » Mon Dec 26, 2011 4:05 am

Most of the Dragon Ball fans in the US who just started getting into buying releases from FUNimation in the late 90's such as myself, were really not in the know. Well, at least as I wasn't, when looking back on it now.

I own all 3 of the Pioneer Movies on DVD. However, I no longer have the box casing. Somehow I managed to lose it over the years from moving multiple times. Every so often I check eBay for the box casing. Believe it or not some eBay sellers do sell the box casings separately. Today, I came across a listing for the entire box brand new for $25. Great deal I was thinking and was about to keep on searching for the casing when I noticed something odd.

The DVD's are placed sealed in the box out of order. I thought to myself, that's kind of weird. So I went over to Daizex and checked the DVD guide. Low and behold they were released out of order. Released 1, 3, then 2. Movie 2 was released 2 months after Movie 3.

I'm sure most of you probably already knew this anyway.

Even after nearly 16 years of watching and enjoying Dragon Ball, I'm still learning something new about the franchise everyday. 8)

That's also a good way to tell bootlegs/reseals, I suppose. :)

I was able to figure this out long ago based on Peter Kelamis' acting, hear him in movie 1 and then listen to how perfect he is in movie 2. It's noticable that they recorded movie 1 first, then 3, then 2.

Interesting. Even checked the DVD Guide to make sure this was true and it is!

Dead Zone - 09 December 1997
The World's Strongest - 26 May 1998
The Tree of Might - 17 March 1998

Very interesting indeed.
