DBZ Kai DVD part 3?

Post by redlinks » Mon Dec 26, 2011 5:14 pm

It seems that part 3 is possibly out of print? It's going for pretty steep prices on amazon. I'm hoping it'll restock soon. D:
- Been a Dragon Ball fan ever since 1995 (at the time, I was 7 years old).
- I prefer Saffron Henderson's Kid Gohan and Kid Goku over Stephanie Nadolny's.
- I still hope for a redub of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z with FUNimation's current cast.
- I prefer to watch Dragon Ball Z with the Faulconer Score, however I do not mind the original Japanese score.

If your hoping for Amazon to restock part 3 (or any of the first 4 parts for that matter) your basicly out of luck, parts 1-4 are pretty much out of print and are probably never going to be in print again, Funimation is trying to get all copies of parts 1-4 off the market as fast as they can because of the music scandal so what you see is pretty much all that's left so get them while you still have a chance.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).

Yeah I should've got Part 1 Bluray Used off of Amazon today instead of Part 6 -____-

But they still sell Yamamoto Parts 1&2 together at Walmart :D
GT isn't bad, just sucks ass in comparison to the other 2 animes.

Walmart has 2 pack bundle sets for $30. They have 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6. 7-8 will come out in about March, I think.

Wow. I've only got parts 1-2 so far. I know someone got part 3 for me for Christmas thankfully but I still need to get 4-6 though. I may have to order from ebay at this point for part 4. :/

I've started collecting Kai DVDs myself and tried going into the second-hand market for them and such.

Currently, it seems that this Amazon listing ofr "Part Three and Part Four" is the cheapest you can get. I ordered one a while back myself got a "Part Three + Part Four" Box set with Yamamoto soundtrack.

Here also is Part One + Part Two at reasonable prices, although when I last purchased from this listing I got a used for $6.95 ... doesn't seem to be there anymore.

I currently am awaiting the shipment of that Part One + Two. When I get that I'll have every part released so far in some manner.

I have two excess Part 4's as well, due to certain circumstances.

Today, alone, I bought DB Kai Parts 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 as part of that Walmart double pack. Walmart stores still have Parts 3 & 4 but 1 & 2 is no longer seen at any Walmart store. I happen to go on ebay tonight and find Parts 1 & 2 new for $32. I'm now done buying the DragonBall Kai DVD's.

I'm not buying the rest due to the change of BGM.

So which DVDs have the original music that aired on TV in Japan? I'm guessing It's the sets that are out of print?

For reference, for Dragon Ball Kai in Japan, the first 96-or-so episodes broadcasted with the Yamamoto score.

FUNi also originally released the first four "parts" before the scandal came around, so the first four sets will be the ones which may, depending on your purchase, still have the Yamamoto score, although many folks have supposedly gotten editions with Kikuchi scores (If anyone wants to have one of my duplicate Kai Yamamotos in exchange for a Kikuchi, I'd be game, although I'd prefer Blue Brick DBall TOS. I've been repeatedly running into Yamamoto DVDs in spite of the supposed rarity.). For these sets FUNi has supposedly been phasing out the "Parts" in favor of "Season" sets, which is why there's talk of them being Out-of-Print. On the other hand, I still seem to find copies at Wal-mart and such...
5-8 on the other hand -will- have the Shunsuke Kikuchi score, and there will probably be no US release of 5-8 with the Yamamoto score at all.

Rather frustratingly, I can't find a good guide on "How to spot a Kaikuchi vs. a Kaimoto" for FUNi DVDs.

hrm... that's kind of confusing. :/ But I guess in this case, what you get is what you get. I'll be curious to see which score I get for my copy of part 3. So the ones you're finding at Wal-Mart, would those likely have the yamamoto score of the Kikuchi score?

To clarify episodes 1-95 of the original japanese brodcast of Dragon Ball Kai had the Yamamoto score (after the first airing of episode 95 episodes 96-98 and all subsequent reruns of the series were switched with the Kikuchi score.)

As far as I know, it's fine here as this is just a general Dragon Ball discussion. :/

We have a specific section for Kai though.

DragonBall Kai

I guess if Kai related threads were supposed to be in the Kai section, it would have been moved by now.

Is that for real? I want to get one, but I feel that it can't be true since they are selling it at such a low price. I hope you don't mind me asking, but when you ordered yours did you also get it for that cheap. If so, I might as well order.

I'd also like to know the legitimacy of this, as I find it a little too good to be true.

I will remind you that, as I said in that same post, I myself made that purchase (at the time I think it was at a penny + shipping, too, even!) and got what I described. It appeared perfectly legit, too - eps were uncut, picture quality as good as I could tell, even came with those FUNimation insert ads. However, what third-party store you're ordering from may factor into this. I'd recommend going for high quality feedback over the lowest possible price when the sets are already that low. Also remember that you will not get free shipping unless your seller permits it as eligible, and if you try buying a lot of "cheapsies" the shipping costs will pile up.
(As for why these are so low, it appears it's kind of automated that store listings for certain items gradually drop on Amazon after long periods of time up until a certain point. I've also been able to get Walmart-type Orange Brick dual season sets for 1 penny + the shipping costs earlier in the year, although seasons 3 and 4 eluded me so I do not have the complete Orange Bricks. I unfortunately have not seen this applied to video games.)

I guess I was just skeptical that there'd be that good of a deal for something that's going out of print. Nevertheless I just ordered it from moviesmusicgames, who has a 98% positive rating. I'll let ya'll know how it goes when I get it.

I just bought it myself. Interestingly I just came on to write this and noticed that Perfect and I bought from the same seller. I guess they must have multiple copies.
