Namekusaiyajin . . .Am I right?

Hello my fellow Dragon Ball fans,

I was just listening to episode 3 of the Daizex podcast because I accidently downloaded it and anyway I need a further break-down of the term because I feel that Mike and Julian glossed over it too fast given the show was about Saiyan vs. Saiyajin prenounciations and for thar reason I guess that was fair enough.

The thing I am having trouble with the most is the Saiya part. In Japanese it is suppose to mean 'vegetable' but Julian was speaking of how it was suppose to mean they are 'people of the planet namek'. I get how jin means ethier race of people or people or race but where exactly does the Saiya come into it?

"Saiya" is an anagram of "yasai" (野菜) which means "vegetable" in Japanese. As for the word for "Namekian", it's actually "Namekkuseijin" (ナメック星人).

You must've misheard "sei" ("planet/star") as FUNimation's mispronounciation of "saiya".

Namek-sei-jin. The "sei" part being "planet." People of Planet Namek.

It sound sort of like the US pronunciation Saiyan, but in Japanese Saiya is more like "sigh-a" and not "say-a." The vegetable pun is that the Japanese word for veggies is "yasai." "Saiya" is what happens when you switch the syllables.
