To be honest, I didn't really like Jillian Michaels Gohan. Sounded a bit girly for my preferences.

Saffron Henderson is my second favorite English dub Gohan (first being Colleen Clinkenbeard).
The big question is, who'll play Goku? Not Kirby Morrow, according to him. I doubt Ian Corlett or Peter Kelamis are going to return.

Apparently someone named "Brian Kingsley" or something along those lines was cast for Nappa and Goku but it's still an unconfirmed rumor.penguintruth wrote:Saffron Henderson is my second favorite English dub Gohan (first being Colleen Clinkenbeard).

If they get just the right Goku for this (and the script is accurate), I'm willing to double-dip for DVD/Blu-Ray.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Personally I would prefer it if Cell's ocean voice was kept the same, especially for his first form. They nailed that creepy Cell voice perfectly IMO and even with the later forms he sounded so much more intelligent than the Funimation Cell. Funimation's second form always sounded weird to me like he was bloated or something and while the last form does sound more evil than ocean's it feels like they tried too hard to make it sound posh or whatever and it just comes off a bit stereotypical.
But anyway I'm really curious to see who they got to play Goku. Ian Corlett and Peter kelamis both did awesome jobs and I think it will be hard to top them.

I think I might be in the same boat...just as long as they don't provide a replacement score (not Kikuchi/Yamamoto).penguintruth wrote:If they get just the right Goku for this (and the script is accurate), I'm willing to double-dip for DVD/Blu-Ray.
Also, I'm not very familiar with any of their DVD releases, but would they'd include the Japanese dub, right?

Well, I say I'll double-dip, but the truth is it probably won't even get a DVD/Blu-Ray release. It's probably a just for TV dub to placate the Canadian need to have Canadian work on TV. I mean, what licensor/distributor is going to release it?

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Scott McNeil is returning to voice his characters in Dragon Ball Kai....this is excellent news
Interesting that he decided to "break" the NDA....but I think he was probably given permission to do so because an announcement may not be too far off now.
I love it when the Ocean voice actresses/actors express their enjoyment at working on Dragon Ball. Saffron Henderson, Brian Drummond, Brad Swaile, Scott McNeil, Kriby Morrow, Alistair Abell and others have done so and it shows in their performances.
I liked how Scott mentions that the series which gave him employment for a decade is back, saying it in a celebration tone and fist clenching. He mentioned a list of characters he's returning to voice, including main characters and side characters and he recalled them very quickly. He even mentioned Caroni, a character which appears in only a few episodes of the Cell Games. That is impressive and shows how fondly he remembers working on DBZ, especially when you consider that Scott McNeil has voiced (according to Wikipedia) over 8,500 characters.
From what I gathered in the video, Ocean are still on the Namek saga, they're taking their time for this. Good.
Now, the next two biggest news for me would be confirmation of Brian Drummond returning to voice Vegeta and confirmation of replacement music. I don't understand how anyone would want what is shaping up to be a spectacular dub let down by terribly placed and absurdly repetitive Kikuchi music. Unless they can get Yamamoto, the Ocean dub needs a replacement score.
Fun fact; Scott McNeil did not voice Dr Briefs until the Android saga. He mentioned Dr Briefs among his returning roles. He missed out Android #16 but from the way its going, he'll probably reprise this role as well. Which is good.
Scott's Jeice is, IMO, the best Jeice by far, even better than the Japanese version. I'm very happy that Scott is voicing Jeice again, it's more than I hoped for and I can't wait to hear it. Hope he retains the British accent for Jeice.

I'm hoping replacement music is a practice that is dying out and that they stick to Yamamoto and/or Kikuchi.
Hearing Scott McNeil as Piccolo again will be great, though.

If they stick to Yamamoto, then great. But chances of that don't seem to be in our favour, which is why I suggest replacement music. No matter what you say, the Kikuchi music is not the intended musical score for Kai and itself is a bad replacement (though not Kikuchi's fault, unless he demanded too much money via JASRAC) and I don't want to hear it in Ocean's Kai dub, which undoubtedly would be my main version to watch Kai.penguintruth wrote:I'm hoping replacement music is a practice that is dying out and that they stick to Yamamoto and/or Kikuchi.

The Ocean Buu saga is the best material for the Dragon Ball series to date. Ocean Kai could potentially be even better but that could be difficult if they use Kikuchi.

I doubt anything they come up with is going to be as good as Kikuchi's score.

Not the score itself no, but it could be better than the placement.penguintruth wrote:I doubt anything they come up with is going to be as good as Kikuchi's score.

I don't believe the placement is so bad that a replacement score is preferrable.

I got something more along the lines of "Ocean's version of the Buu Arc surpassed even the Japanese version in terms of voice acting and music, and the Kikuchi score would only make it worse."Pokewhiz7 wrote:"I think the Ocean Boo saga is the best but, provided they don't use Kikuchi, Ocean Kai could be even better." Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I'm going to assume you mean best in the English language (though I would argue Funi's Kai dub currently holds that position in superior English adaptations, with questions on how the Ocean Kai dub will fair).RazorX wrote:If they stick to Yamamoto, then great. But, replacements or not, I think we've learned that, generally, the more hardcore fans tend to prefer the English side to leave the tracks alone. Really, the English fanbase shouldn't be split anymore than it already is (Manga, Original Anime in Japanese, Funi dub with TV Score, Ocean Dub *not sure if I should count pre and post-Funi dub as two versions*, Funi Dub with Original Score, Funi Kai dub with the Yamamoto Score, Funi Kai dub with the Kikuchi Score *should I even count the Big Green and Filipino dubs?*, and add an Ocean Kai on top of that, if you do an original score, there will still be fans wanting an Ocean Kai Dub with the other two Scores, leading to an extreme division in fan ranks).
The problem with a replacement score is that we don't even know that we would get something better than what it replaces. They're better off just leaving things as is (or, at best, having someone go through the original music, and try to place it better, but even then, that depends if they have the right person for that).
RIDER KIIIIIIICK!
