Snake Way and why Hell?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is explained why it is such a big deal to fall off snake way? I know that they say to Goku that he shouldn't, but I'm just wondering if I missed something because it seems really harsh for it to be that way. And could that mean that you would go to heaven if you happened to jump/fly up? It just doesn't make sense to me and I'm wondering if you guys could help with the answer.
Best. Slip 'n' slide. EVER!

I sincerely appreciate your reply but I'm sorry to say that wasn't the answer I was looking for and that is completely my fault. I worded the question very poorly and I understand exactly where the confusion was. What I'm trying to ask is if there is ever a Why? Why is falling off snake way such a big deal that they put you in Hell because of it? I hope that clears up the confusion, and I apologize for the error in my wording.Dominator wrote:Falling into Hell means who have to find your way back to Serpent Road and you can't fly back up there.

They don't 'put' you in Hell. You fall into it. Those yellow clouds under Snake Way are the barrier between Hell and the rest of Otherworld. If you fall off you fall through the barrier and into Hell. And the barrier is made to be one way, the souls that get sent there have to be able to pass in but not get out. So you can fall in but you can't fly back out, they wont let you go up.

Well I don't think that you're sent to Hell because you fall off Serpent Road, it's just that, that's where you happen to end up if you fall. It's probably a big deal because once you're in Hell, you can't get out. Goku was an exception. I hope that answers your question.
Jerseymilk: "Can I tell you something?"
B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."

It was just to make you think of it being something terrible, and because it does happen you get more shocked. Once he falls off and finds his way back up, it's not longer a place where you cannot escape if given authority, as Goz and Mez state otherwise, they are Devil Oni's, they do lie, King Enma won't really pull their tongues out for lying, and it's probably to scare little kids a bit.
Did you not realise the same road sweeper fell off twice? Meaning that you can get back up if you haven't officially been sent to Hell.
Most importantly, those whole falling into Hell thing is filler, it doesn't happen in the manga so it's doubtful that there is any explanation.
Although in the manga the oni does tell Goku not to fall off because Hell is underneath, and that he could never get out. But since filler is to give Toriyama more time to continue the story himself, he probably didn't have a problem with Toei using that, I actually like the filler in the early series anyway.

Do remember, though, that Goku never fell of Serpant Road in the manga.
The anime writers had to write up a way for Goku to get back on the road, so they made that hallway that only Goz and Mez knew..which lead to Enma's desk. >>
In the manga, Goku just kept running and running until he reached Kaio's planet. We didn't exactly see as much of him in the afterlife like we did in the anime before his training.

Since I haven't seen most of the manga previous to its integration in the American Shonen Jump, and absolutely none afterwards, let me just as this: is Hell shown anywhere in the manga at all?
And on a related note... why is there such a huge interest with the DBZ afterlife suddenly? What the Hell's up with that?

That's because the hell we see in DBZ/GT is modeled after an eastern version of hell, rather than the Judeo-Chiristian hell most people think of i n the western world. It seems that the hell we see in DBZ does little more than hold spirits until they are ready to be reincarnated again.Only because of the ever so popular superstition that when one sneezes, someone must be talking about them behind their back.![]()
Funny thing is, Toei made Hell look rather enjoyable in Z. XD

That sneezing part happens when someone is talking about him, it's Piccolo, talking about how Goku isn't tough enough to train Gohan himself.Tsukento wrote:Only because of the ever so popular superstition that when one sneezes, someone must be talking about them behind their back.Duo wrote:In one he even sneezes.

Not GT Hell. >_> GT Hell looked like Goz and Mez retired and someone else decided to take over and make it into the Western version of Hell..somewhat, anyways.Chaos Saiyajin wrote:That's because the hell we see in DBZ/GT is modeled after an eastern version of hell, rather than the Judeo-Chiristian hell most people think of i n the western world. Chaos Saiyajin's quote from other Afterlife topic: Enma had to make budget cuts, so hell became a haven for sex, drugs, and violence. Not GT Hell. >_> GT Hell looked like Goz and Mez retired and someone else decided to take over and make it into the Western version of Hell..somewhat, anyways.
