Budokai 1-3 were developed by Dimps, and Tenkaichi by Spike. It's safe to assume this will inherit the Budokai legacy.

Anywho, I will definitely be picking up this game. Following my severe disappointment with Budokai Tenkaichi, I'm looking for a new Budokai to keep me excited.
They have to change it at one point, I don't want all my PS3 DBZ games to have Budokai in the title once again, they've rinsed the word completely, it's time to change the name Atari. If it ain't for this game it's never.

Leaving the name aside, and like I've said above, it's the way the fights are handled that I'm more worried about, screw the name, I'm just voicing an opinion, Budokai is getting tiring now, I don't even like the word anymore. And most US fans don't even know what the words Tenkaichi Budokai mean, even Atari screwed up, what the hell is 'Budokai Tenkaichi?'

Now I have the idea they may call the game 'DBZ: Tenkaichi Budokai' to shut moaning fans like me up, please don't name the game that Atari, if you're reading this.

I think they'll shoot for something like Dragonball Z: Budokai Chou or something like that, seeing as how Atari used a Japanese word for the NA and PAL versions of Sparking!

Hell, they may even give us Budokai Tenkaichi 2... :?

EDIT: After looking over the official site, I noticed Gohan has been added to the character roster...Just thought you'd like to know :P
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

I don't give a rat's ass what will the US title be like. I don't care if they call it "Goku's Poopy Pink Cloud Z" or something. If this tasty looking DBZ game gets released in the states as a PS2 port, I am content, and happy.

As far as the extra characters go... well, I don't know. 1 (2 tops) extra fighters (like Goro and Shao Kahn in Deception) seem slim as a possibility, let alone 10-15.

I think it will be nice to have nine characters, with each one of them possessing completely different feel and fighting style (like the ol' Street Fighter II). Budokai 1-3 and Tenkaichi are an excellent gift to DBZ gaming fans (especially for those who spent their teenage years with the SNES ROMS), but I miss a DBZ game in which playing as Kuririn and Freeza are two entirely different things...
"Destiny"... people claim by force what they desire, wreak havoc upon others in order to acquire it... and they call it "destiny".

I agree, I would rather have a DBZ game with say, 15 characters, but with each one with a custom style and their own set of combos. I actually look forward to this game, it seems to go back to basics, and I hope it doesn't die in Japan. Gimme PAL damnit! As for the title, I'd say expect something along the lines of DragonBall Z: Super Budokai. It looks like Atari are gonna stick with Budokai for a long time, saying as the new PSP game is "Shin Budokai".
At some point, I need to get a JP PS2, it would be extremely useful, as I get peeved at having to wait 6 months longer than everybody to get a game.
On another note, what exactly is "Chou"? Is it just another word for super, 'cos the only one I know is スーパー (suupaa).

超 (chou) indeed means super. You see it in the manga when they write Super Saiyajin. サイヤ人 is written, with スーパー as furigana for Chou.

I think Chou Dragon Ball Z is going to be a welcomed change. The game looks to be simpler than previous games but that is mainly why I like it. Every Dragon Ball fighting game does not need 60+ characters. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that Sparking does contain all those characters but I think we should also get DBZ games where each character is unique and contains their own combos and such.

Off Topic: What exactly does the title Shin Budokai mean?

Shin (新) Budoukai would mean New Martial Arts Tournament, while Shin (真) Budoukai would mean True Martial Arts Tournament.

I can't wait for Chou DBZ, I'm gonna keep a close watch on ebay for any JAMMA kits being sold and see how much they go for. Otherwise, I'll just wait for a USA release.

Since Chou DBZ being an arcade fighter and all, the game will have far more focus on its fighting engine rather than its story mode and such. You can only tell the DBZ story so many times...

There is no doubt though that the PS2 version will get some extra content and characters, but not a whole lot. I don't see any reason for Atari to re-name the game to a Budokai-something seeing it has no relation to that particular series, moreso than Sparking/Budokai Tenkaichi, which at least recycled the majority of models, backgrounds and other stuff from the previous Budokai games.
