STOP SOPA NOW!
Re: STOP SOPA NOW!
Say goodbye to MegaUpload. I'm pretty confident SOPA won't pass, but it has brought piracy and filesharing back to the top of the feds' agenda and we will suffer either way. I tended to prefer megaupload to torrents/RapidShare. It's popular in the fanedit community as an upload resource, so I'm used to using it.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Goddammit. I had just uploaded my Z Kai Part 6 silent audio's. . .nevermind the rest of the links for my other audio files being deleted. *Sigh* Oh well, guess I'll have to find another site to host my files.bkev wrote:Say goodbye to MegaUpload. Seems to me to be them trying to save face for failing to pass Protect IP/SOPA. The timing is utterly ridiculous.

Wasn't there someone here who a while back who uploaded most of the unreleased, including GT BGMs to Mega Upload? Or am I misremembering things?

Seems that was what I was thinking of. Here's the original thread.dbboxkaifan wrote:This > http://daizex.fanboyreview.net/viewtopi ... 12&t=18761 ?Metalwario64 wrote:Wasn't there someone here who a while back who uploaded most of the unreleased, including GT BGMs to Mega Upload? It was uploaded to MegaUpload, but seems from the thread you linked that it's been uploaded elsewhere.
Also, looks like Anonymous claims to hacked the Department of Justice's website in retaliation of the closing of MegaUpload.

Re: STOP SOPA NOW!
Not actually bad. One of the problems from the file sharing sites is that the most populares ones aren't exactly the better ones.
To sum it up, the sites provide a bad service with limitations (waiting time, limited storage, etc), and while there are much better sites such as Mediafire, users often upload their videos to these sites because they earn points to premium accounts (without the limitations). Of course the world would be a better place if everybody uploaded their videos to sites without limitations at all so you wouldn't need premium accounts to begin with, but that's not the modus-operantis of the human brain.
Now about the news article:
The indictment accuses seven individuals and two corporations -- Megaupload Limited and Vestor Limited -- of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content.
First of all, other sites may say 175 million, so I am not sure about the number. Besides there is no way to tell for sure how much they lost.
For example, the latest Adobe Photoshop version may cost 4,000 dollars. If a 10 years old kid clicked 20 times in a download link, theorically the "statistics" would add that Adobe lost 80,000 dollars because of piracy. Which of course is absurd.
The individuals in the criminal enterprise each faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison on racketeering charges, five years for conspiracy to commit copyright infringement, 20 years on money laundering charges and five years on related charges.
The problem is that they did not commit piracy. That would be the same thing as arresting the owner of a Shopping Mall (and close the establishment) because there was a man commiting public indecency in there. It's just hard to an intelligence human being is behind this.
And it's quite a coincidence this coming at the right time of SOPA or PIPA, especially considering what they have been accused of.

Ah man I just found out about Megaupload being taken down
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Yes, but that won't last. Obviously that doesn't seems to hold much legal background, but instead has more to with the influence of Hollywood and other corporations. Eventually it will also be used for political issues and there will be a massive backlash against that kind of action.coola wrote:did dark times of censor really returned?![]()

First the KSA-Israel conflict bank accounts, Then came SOPA/PIPA protests, and now Anonymous attacks official sites as a payback for Megaupload's death by the hands of the FBI!

Re: STOP SOPA NOW!
Yeah, that's the thing.
Anonymous retaliating so viciously? Badass!
Anonymous retaliating in a way that will probably help the SOPA supporters? No. No no no no no.
If you're going to retaliate, do it right.
If they want to kill the internet so we'll buy their stuff, stop buying their stuff.
Megaupload cost them 500,000,000? If we could actually get people to do it, we could cost them much more without doing anything illegal.
Of course, people are weak, so the only way we could accomplish that would probably result in super piracy.
Also, something's stuck under my e key. If those bastards uploaded some static electricity to my computer to draw dust into the keyboard...
