Wasn't Goku wearing it on his back in Dragon Ball when he arrived for the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai? I know he was in the anime, not sure about the manga. In any case, this one aspect wouldn't be impossible as far as the anime goes.Goku also has his Nyoi-bô in this movie, which is impossible, because he left that atop Karin Tower.

Filler Guide Error?
This is what I believe to be an error in the movie incosistencies section of the filler guide. In the explaination of how the first DBZ movie can't take place in the series' timeline you say:
That bugged me so damned much when it "vanished" as of the Radditz saga, but it turned out that the pole you're thinking of is actually just a sheath of some kind to hold his umbrella. Notice how, once the umbrella is "missing", that it looks like a nyoibo inside another nyoibo.

We know, it's just that the we thought he took it with him to the 23rd budoukai because of an identical looking pole on his back when he first arrives. In other words, we figured he took it out of the Kami-Korin towers when it served him to.
