Huh?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeza
Freeza has the distinction of being the only Dragonball character specifically described as homosexual, in issue number 233 of the Japanese manga. In fact, according to creator, Akira Toriyama, Freeza was based on a stereotype of the effeminate but muscular homosexual, while his father, King Cold, was based on a famous Japanese drag queen.
Now I know Freeza was never really refered to as homosexual in the series, but did Toriyama actually comment on how he came up with the characters?

Hm... good question. I found how Goku was done though: originally he was supposed to be a monkey, as DB was themed around the monkey king fable, but that wasn't interesting enough for him, so he redrew Goku as we know him -a human boy with a tail- in a sailor suit (both versions have Goku in posession of his nyoibo). Later, Toriyama redesigned he clothing to the famous gi.
As for Goku's character, Toriyama wanted him to be the opposite of Arale in exhuberance. More discrete, like a regular human child, except for his tail, odd haircut and naivete.

Lol! Further proof that it's a (manga equivalent of a)dubbie who wrote this; he was apparently using VIZ's chapter numbering system.Super Sonic wrote:I just checked the Manga reference guide and chpt 233 was still with the fight with Vegeta on Earth.

Perhaps. I recall a couple months or so ago, I was there and did some edits and summary additions to the GT section, as well as the sections for each GT saga. I like to think I did pretty well, hopefully no-one thinks the summaries I helped with are too bad.El_Diablo wrote:The entire Dragon Ball section on Wikipedia needs a complete rework.

Even if he was that he'd be dumb as by Viz's manga, chpt 233 is in vol 21 I believe. Looks like somebody deleted that paragraph there now.Dayspring wrote:Lol! Where did that come from in the first place? It's not like it's the dubby spelling; that would be pronounced "fries-uh".El_Diablo wrote:Someone's renamed the article "Frie-za".
Damn Wikipedia and their "most common name" policy.

Due to an English accent the name can be spelt, Frieza, Freezer, Freeza, whatever way, it still ends up being prounced the same way.El_Diablo wrote:I was just avoiding the word filter.
But yes, if read regularly "Frie_za" would be pronounced "Fry za"
As for Freeza being a batty man, come on, it's Freeza! As if he would bat for the other team, sad, sad people waste their time writing up false crap like this. Maybe the man who wrote it is gay himself.

Whenever I see "Frie-za," I say to myself "Free A Zuh"... Hahaha, kind of like how I used to call Hermione "Hermy One" before I saw the movie. Someone should make a pronounciation website for all these character names with strange spellings. Though, there's no confusion on how to pronounce Freeza spelled the way it is in this sentance...

I've always spelled it F r e i z a, simply because I'm very familiar with seeing it written this way on the Budokai games.
C'mon guys, didn't anyone else suspect Freeza was a little fruity?
My cousin told me that she thought Freeza was a woman until they said 'he' in the FUNi dub.
