Freeza has the distinction of being the only Dragonball character specifically described as homosexual, in issue number 233 of the Japanese manga. In fact, according to creator, Akira Toriyama, Freeza was based on a stereotype of the effeminate but muscular homosexual, while his father, King Cold, was based on a famous Japanese drag queen.

Now I know Freeza was never really refered to as homosexual in the series, but did Toriyama actually comment on how he came up with the characters?

Personally I think Toriyama drew Freezer as a object of ridicule at first, then decided to carry on with the idea, considering the popular response it got. I mean look at the Ginyu Tokusentai. And Gohan's Sailor Moon poses as the Great Saiyaman.
