Funimation 2012 New Title Survey

Seems they've announced at least one new title, though at the time of this posting I haven't looked at the survey again, so I don't know if it's one of the ones listed:

They announced Okami-san for DVD/BD months ago. This is just them 'announcing' the dub cast.

I said to a guy about how I would love them if they did Dr. Slump. He said he likes it too, but the problem is it's an older series. Older anime don't sell that well in the States for some reason, besides Voltron, though that might've been a nostalgia thing.

If that was the case then why is Dragon ball still selling like hotcakes I mean it was released in 1986 which correct me if i'm wrong makes the show in a way "old" by today's standards so what would be wrong with dubbing Dr Slump? I mean sure it was released 5 years before DB but it was still made durring the same generation of anime so I consider such an argument null and void. Now if it was more along the lines of something like Sally The Witch or pre 80's anime i'd be more understanding since that would be considered majorly outdated but something from the 80's like Dr. Slump shouldn't be too much of a problem.

That seems to be the prob with why they haven't done Dr. Slump. Only ones on that list I knew were the sequels to Baka and Test and Last Exile, both of which I've never seen. Do wonder about some of the others though I wonder if any might turn out to be like what I consider Funimation's worst property "Master of Martial Hearts". Even the bad parts of DBZ season 3 is better than that show. (Though more it's not a bad dub, but it's a bad show with a particular premise, then an out of nowhere dark plot twist that results in people going, "Oh my god. What the f$%#?")

Who knows the worst funimation dub could be anything for all we know.

At the moment only Funimation thing I'm thinking of getting now is Sekirei season 2, once I save up some more cash. And have all of DB minus GT so, off to suggest jump special, and Sailor Moon re-release.

Good call suggesting a Sailor Moon re-release I was disappointed when that one wasn't in the list but oh well hopefully they can get the series.

I don't know how you're even questioning this -- DBZ sells, despite being "old", because it has existed in this country for seventeen years (ignoring the Harmony Gold attempt years prior to that). It has a history. It has at least two generations of fans.

Other series do not fare well when they are introduced later on past their prime. For a great example, look no further than "Saint Seiya", which has a massive popularity in South America due to actually coming out there in a reasonable time span, but never took off here because it was "ugh this looks old" by the time we got "Knights of the Zodiac".

If "Dr. Slump" and all of the other 1980s contemporaries actually had a presence here when they were first relevant, yes, there would be a market for them (a la whomever wants to deal with Toei for the guaranteed money-bags that are the "Sailormoon" anime re-releases).

Dr. Slump '90s would be the only Slump anime-thing I could see having marketability here. Mainly because it doesn't look very dated, plus it has Goku in it in a few episodes. Even then, the audience would be quite niche.

DB won't ever be on BD. Not until they finish Z on BD.

Doesn't it have significantly less episodes too? The original is almost the length of Z which in the long run would probably be another strike against it being released on top of what others have said.

I think the 90's one is only 74 episodes long.
