Re: Dragon Ball fanbase get screwed over the most?
Pretty much every dragonball fan adores akira toriyama, not all Starwars fans even like lucas anymore, I'm STILL sticking to my 90's VHS tapes,
its like if akira had been the one to force the bad filler on us, to make the story ”better” lucas pretty much force feeds shit no starwars fans want. Starwars fans may never have a ”Dragonbox”,
In short, I think we have it pretty good, and as far as movie adaptations, we had it pretty bad. Evolution wasnt even a ”good” type of bad. What a shame.

Re: Dragon Ball fanbase get screwed over the most?
Most people have already said it.
DBZ we still get new stuff.
A good number of shows at best what someone can hope for is (as has been said) a DVD from Shout. Shout does good work, but for the kinda shows people are hoping for, at best people are hoping for a betamax or digibeta exists. And often Shout has to deal with the kind of crap that if DBZ fans had to deal with.... well... DBZ fans complain because stuff is 'to red', or the audio isn't 'great'.
How would you feel if the only masters that exist for a show are improperly converted from PAL, and that's all the company that made the show will provide?
Or wholesale chunks of episodes being cut out due to legal issues, never to be seen officially.
I know I'm not the only person here whose literal only hope for any number of beloved children's show is that Brian Ward and the Shout crew will announce they have it.
Always nice to see what the Shout guys can do the odd off times they license something new and can really do something ludicrous because they have access to materials.
DBZ fans have it far to good, and it's made it far to easy to complain, sometimes over stuff that deserves it... but very often over nitpicks.
Plenty of anime from that same era in the USA don't even have a complete release in the USA, DBZ has enough that you can actually damn near make a detailed chart and choose what you want.

The difference being Akira Toriyama isn't exactly a money hungry conceited person as far as we can tell lol. Lucas on the other hand can deny that he's not until the end of time...I personally would never believe that. There is no way in hell he's releasing all of these "versions" "for the fans". I'm sticking with my 2 disc trilogy with the bonus disc "original version" copies. No butchered Blu-rays for me!Turtle bits wrote:Pretty much every dragonball fan adores akira toriyama, not all Starwars fans even like lucas anymore, I'm STILL sticking to my 90's VHS tapes,

But back on topic, I think it is universal that we all can agree (as someone said already)...the good outweighs the bad as far as Dragon Ball goes!

If you think Lucas is doing that for money, you really don't have a clue.
And you are not staff, do not mod.
NOW everyone back on topic.

I would suggest you try out Harmy's Despecialized Trilogy. It's the closest we Star Wars fans will get to a HD version of the originals. He has done some great work creating these HD releases.Dandroid17 wrote:The difference being Akira Toriyama isn't exactly a money hungry conceited person as far as we can tell lol. I think Lucas is just a lost person. Did you hear his comment about Red Tails, how it's the first all African American cast film? Yeah...
With Dragon Ball, I would say the "Original" Dub group to an extent. The Faulconer music is only available on two sources, the Original Singles and the Orange Bricks. Both mediocre releases by today's standards. These are fans that can't just watch the Dragon Box version and enjoy the dub they grew up with. They are forced to settle with what they are given now.

Oh did I strike a nerve with a Lucas fan? I don't have a clue? It's called a matter of opinion...you should get a clue yourself. And you get offended because I admitted I strayed off topic, like I'm trying to be a mod? Wow. Take a chill pill buddy. Some people are a bit too touchy on here, sheesh. Star Wars was actually mentioned in the original topic by the way, so I wasn't entirely off topic. Thanks though.Turtle bits wrote:

No actually, I don't quite like what Lucas had done to the original trilogy. Doesn't mean I don't understand why he did it.Dandroid17 wrote:Oh did I strike a nerve with a Lucas fan? And you may wish to re-read the rules and toss the attitude, I'm not the only staff member who noticed it from your last post. You agreed to follow the rules before you posted. When a staff member tells you to move on, it means move on, not 'Feel free to continue.' And if you talk to another staff member, or really any member like that again, I won't be the only staff member you will be dealing with.

I had an attitude because I got an attitude from someone first. I reacted. In my opinion it was rude. So I'm not allowed to defend myself because someone is a staff member? I am NOT trying to start anything. I just didn't see the point in being treated so harshly. It was assumed that I was trying to "mod" and I was not. Saying I really don't have a clue because of an opinion I have? If this is how board members are treated then maybe I should reconsider. Do what you feel you need to do.MarcFBR wrote:

No one should have an attitude, and your response was a lot worse than what you were responding to. It doesn't matter whether someone is a staff member or not, because everyone is to be treated with respect. If someone offends you in a post, just take a minute and think before you post, rather than reacting on immediate emotion. Also, if you think someone is doing something wrong, you can use the report function (the little red !) to alert a moderator and have them deal with it, even if the offender is another moderator.Dandroid17 wrote:I had an attitude because I got an attitude from someone first. Marc can seem harsh sometimes, but his overall goal is to avoid misinformation. He was trying to correct you, not pick on you.

And I actually had avoided correcting someone ELSE who went off topic and said misinformation in an attempt to move the thread along.TripleRach wrote:Marc can seem harsh sometimes, but his overall goal is to avoid misinformation. He was trying to correct you, not pick on you.

Thank you, I just got caught up in thinking "WTF?" since I didn't see that at first, I just thought he was mocking me or whatnot. It's happened more than once already on here (not just him) so I was getting a little confused as to why I was catching so much flack from what I had thought were simple mistakes (capitalization) and opinions. I usually don't react back like that, promise! lol. I'm usually laid back. Misunderstanding is all. My apologies.TripleRach wrote: No one should have an attitude, and your response was a lot worse than what you were responding to. Re: Dragon Ball fanbase get screwed over the most?
Yeah, holy shit. We really are infinitely spoiled here. I love Shout! Factory and Brian Ward over there has been amazingly dedicated to releasing the best DVD sets he can produce and has gone above and beyond the call of duty. But he's also been incredibly candid that the vast majority of these cartoons were not exactly highly prized by DiC, NBC, ABC or whoever else was involved. They basically hand him betamax tapes and an old box or two from storage that, if he's lucky, has some storyboards and concept art.MarcFBR wrote:Shout does good work, but for the kinda shows people are hoping for, at best people are hoping for a betamax or digibeta exists. Hell, the Captain N set is technically missing an entire episode (that had two distinct versions produced) and an alternate version of another episode. And I particularly remember that there was even an issue suggesting the episode order might even be out of whack. Imagine any of that with Dragon Ball. Other communities are more than satisfied that half these shows even got a second wind at all. But with Dragon Ball we get the luxury to have so much that we can do screenshot comparisons to compare colors. That's not something a community does when it's starved. Attention to that kind of minutia is a clear indication of a community afforded robust resources. So I really think the Dragon Ball fanbase can't possibly say it gets screwed over "most" when it's treated better than the vast majority of fanbases of various animated series.

I'm wondering when/if the U.S. will get a release of Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!
