DBZ Art on Magic:The Gathering

Post by Saiyajin and Juice » Sat Feb 04, 2012 6:08 pm

Anyone here play Magic? Apparently it is popular (and legal?) to draw on cards to customize them. I came across these today while searching for DBZ cards in general:

That max powered Frieza is so cool

There is some other anime stuff on his blog too, but nothing looks as good as the stuff in that auction. Is it weird that I want these even though I don't play MTG?

Those are awesome! I wonder if that's paint? Marker? Or what. Regardless, looks real cool.

The Furiza card art was bad, the others are ok.

I'll quote someone on criticizing others' work.

"give him a break"

"If i ever met him i would thank him for the work he did, not criticize him."

I feel extremely sad for you that you missed the point of my post entirely.

Ok i got it after i posted, I don't mean i'm "perfect" and never ever say something bad about something  That was my opinion on that card art, it was not that good, but the others are ok. And people should not talk bad about Toriyama either, the man put 10 years of his life into DragonBall.

It's not so much that it's "bad", that the artist was clearly trying to stylize the art to make it fit in with the card game's theme. The way he portrayed Freeza's face, for instance. I'm confident it was done internationally to achieve a certain style.

I'm surprised ya'll don't like the Frieza, that's def my favorite one. Maybe it's just because I played the DBZ CCG and used a card with the exact same art:

Looks like a good re-creation of it to me.

His has a more stylized representation of Freeza. Looks more like a "golem" or whatever they have, right out of Magic.

According to the description he used acrylic paint.

Wow... it's been a while since I've played Magic: The Gathering. They've redesigned the cards again? I'm guessing the blue circle next to the card type is just to show what color the card is, but I have no idea what that black circle in the upper-left corner is (those definitely didn't exist the last time I saw Magic cards...)

Yeah, I think that the Frieza card is sweet! I don't see how it's "bad" at all. If it's not someone's style that's understandable, but to call it bad?...

Ohh cool! I'd like to do that, I don't think I have any Magic cards left though haha

Looks like he is at it again. I kind of like this one the most, but something seems off about it?

Being an M:TG fan, this is awesome. Yes, it's entirely legal to alter your own cards and sell them on eBay, people do it all the time and they make pretty good money from doing it. Awesome though, I'll have to start picking up some of the better-done ones.
