I'm just surprised they're this interested in catering to the more "hardcore" fan group, meaning I guess "purists" or fans of the original Japanese version. US/wherever else FUNi distributes Dragon Ball fans sure have been lucky lately, especially compared to other franchises.

Doesn't make any logical sense, considering the Dragon Box: The Movies is all in 16:9.

Oh no, not this again. I don't think dragon ball fans have been lucky lately. Well at least not the dub fans.

It's strange that the season sets have some picture lost and so does a dragon box .

Compare to any other series, especially ones that don't even get a full release. If you're a "dub fan", you still have an "acceptable" release; again compared to some franchises that get releases that look like they were made in the 1960s and damaged beyond repair.

If you're talking about the Z season sets, they are just as bad.

Be careful Perfect, I worry he may be delusional.

Cause anyone who thinks DBZ fans aren't ludicrously lucky compared to most franchises, are batshit insane.

We are lucky. But on the other hand, I feel like the only reason they're considering releasing Dragon Boxes now is because no one will buy Dragon Ball on DVD anymore. I mean, honestly if they released another Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT or Dragon Ball movies set on DVD again, they probably wouldn't sell so well. I think the only real way to sell DB on DVD yet another time is by releasing these Dragon Boxes.

It might sound like I'm bashing FUNimation, but I'm really not. I'm willing to give FUNimation my money for pretty much any Dragon Box they wanna release next. I'm just saying why I think now they're considering this.

So you have all 291 episodes with the original American broadcast music, Japanese score and Japanese mono (which to be fair is on the Dragon Boxes too), and yet you're complaining because you want a high quality release with the dub score? I don't see the point in whining over it, seeing that there's an "acceptable" release with that music present. You also have the first two BRs for some of the less than acceptable quality that we see in the early bricks. There's also a fine difference between damaged 1960s quality and a terrible remastering job. You should really just put it in perspective and be happy you even have a full release, because odds are, none of the Dragon Boxes will "ever" contain the US broadcast score; especially seeing the precedent the Z DBoxes set.

Sure the bricks may have "terrible" quality, but they're overall a decent release. Cheap, easy to purchase from merchants, all the episodes, three forms of audio, uncut aside from the cropping and they're selling pretty damn well. When you compare them to the Dragon Boxes (which we should just be grateful for having in the first place), they're complete trash. That however, doesn't change the fact we're more than lucky to even get subsequent releases, let alone one with the option to the watch all 291 episodes.

Well it's a theory, but I think the only way we'd know that for sure is if we got a hold of their sales figures for the past 2-5 years (consisting of everything from the bricks to the Kai BDs).

Although the movies were animated in 4:3, they were presented in theaters in 16:9, so they were kept in 16:9 for the Dragon Box release of the movies. The general consensus is that the movies were animated so that no important footage was lost in the cropping process, unlike Funimation's Season Sets.

Good point. Maybe they realize exactly what you said, that any future release of Dragon Ball/Z/GT or the movies on DVD really won't sell much at all. Dragon Boxes on the other hand, would be bought for sure. Even if they aren't in stores and are mostly bought by the more "die-hard" fans like the Z DBoxes were, they would most likely sell much better than anything other than a Blu-ray release.

And we will never get those. They have to be good though. Otherwise, I doubt they'd keep releasing Dragon Ball material and now looking into releasing more Dragon Boxes.

Will Funimation come up with their own design of how the Dragonball Dragon-Box will look? because I believe there was only 1 Japanese Box
Image
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

There was some good art inside the set as I recall, maybe 9 or 10 total shots if you include stuff on the box.

Plenty for them to use.

Here's the page at Kanzentai http://www.kanzentai.com/dvd.php?id=dbox I think there is plenty of good artwork for them to use if they did DB Dboxes. Looking at that, there's enough pieces to have 2 to 3 characters per box if they did 4 boxes.

I'm sure they will use the art from the r2 box. There is 8 images I believe. FUNi can spread those images out over 4 boxes without a problem. It would be the easiest thing for them to do anyways.

Any yeah, you're correct, there was only 1.

Those look awesome! :) I hope krillin gets on the cover of box 2 :) Here's a better idea
Image
if Funimation releases 4 box sets of Dragonball I want these pictures as the covers
in order of the releases 1,4,3,7 :D or mix 5,6,7 on the last box.

Well, they could do two images per box. Instead of just one.
