Your favorite line in Japanese
If you had to pick one line in the entrie series, what would it be? For me, it's SSJ4 Gogeta's infamous line when Yi Xing Long asked who he was, he then replied:
"Who, me? I'm neither Son Goku or Vegeta. I'm he who will defeat you!"
That line was just so powerful and awe-inspiring. With his voice combined by Nozawa and Horikawa, it was really done well. I'd have my pants wet if I were to actually be there and heard his voice.

That line is basically a copy-paste from Movie 12, though.

Re: Your favorite line in Japanese
Just so you know, that line was originally in DBZ movie 12, and was Gogeta's only real spoken line
. It was an intentional toss-back to that moment.
My favorite "this sounds awesome in Japanese but hilariously terrible in English" line goes to Vegeta: "koitsu ga suupaa bejiita no biggu ban atakku da!" ("This is Super Vegeta's Big Bang Attack!")
My favorite line with both genuinely awesome delivery and meaning? Don't have it verbatim in front of me, but Trunks' great moment in DBZ movie 7 where he says something along the lines of "you don't exist in the future, because right here, right now, Son Goku is going to defeat you!" Kusao nails it there.

For what it's worth, the English dub version in Kai sounded pretty cool in English too ("Feast your eyes... on Super Vegeta's Big Bang Attack!").VegettoEX wrote:My favorite "this sounds awesome in Japanese but hilariously terrible in English" line goes to Vegeta: "koitsu ga suupaa bejiita no biggu ban atakku da!" "I promised you, didn't I? That I'd show you a nightmare worse than Hell."
Or maybe it's "horror" instead of "nightmare" in the original. I can't remember what the exact Japanese line is off the top of my head, and I know it was done slightly differently between Viz and Kai's English dub.

Re: Your favorite line in Japanese
I always love when Nozawa changes her voice to a silly one when child Gokuu is "Hara hetana~~~"/"I'm hungry~~~" it's such a cute delivery.
In terms of badass lines, Trunks' line from movie #7 is pretty awesome, too. One of my favorites is Cell's "Yu-yurusan! YURUSANAI!!!!!"/"UNFORGIVABLE!!!!!" in reply to Gohan's "Omae wa mou owari da na"/"You're already finished." Wakamoto's delivery is beastly, espicially as he ends the yell.

Actually, Gogeta spoke the other line in Movie 12. Something about taking care of Janemba for Paikuhaun ( I hope I spelled his name correctlyVegettoEX wrote:Just so you know, that line was originally in DBZ movie 12, and was Gogeta's only real spoken line. I was thinking of Gogeta's line from Movie 12 too, but I thought the GT one has more powerful delivery compared to Movie 12's counterpart.

My favorite line is my signature. In English is says (roughly), "The way you did that Earthling?... You mean Kuririn*... You mean Kuririn!!!!!"
* I always understood the line to mean, "The way you did to that Earthling? D'you mean Kuririn? D'you mean Kuririn!" or something along those lines. Don't turn it into a federal case, I'm not a fluent speaker of Japanese.
I like the line so much I even made this to help a friend (who's never seen DBZ) to understand the context when I tried explaining it to him:

Re: Your favorite line in Japanese
Anything that Akira Kamiya spouts off in the role of Garlic Jr. (during Dead Zone). Seriously, I think a lot more people would appreciate the Garlic Jr. saga if only they had been able to bring back Kamiya for the role.
Well, OK. To be specific, it's mostly just this line, spoken right before he beefs up and starts beating the crap out of Goku and Piccolo:
「惜しいぞ 孫悟空、 ピッコロ! お前たちほどのものが 薄汚れた神の手伝いなどしおって」
"Oshii zo Son Gokuu, Pikkoro! Omae-tachi hodo no mono ga usuyogoreta Kami no tetsudai nado shiotte!"
("A pity, Son Goku... Piccolo... that those as lowly as you would come to the aid of a downtrodden Kami!")
It's been popping up in my head and haunting me every now and again, nearly every day (I kid you not) since I first saw the movie almost ten years ago, just because the delivery is so... frackin'... GREAT!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And, since this one's sure to be mentioned eventually anyway:
「余計なお世話だ 出来損ないめ」
"Yokei na o-sewa da dekisokonai-me."
("None of your business, you miserable hunk of junk.")
This is spoken by Cell right after he crushes No. 16's head, and just before "Spirit VS Spirit" starts up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, I've gone to check: here's that movie 7 Trunks line in Japanese:
「おい人造人間! 俺は 20年後の未来からやって来た トランクスだ! 20年後の地球には、 お前は存在していない! 今日ここで悟空さんに倒されてしまうからな!!」
"Oi Jinzouningen! Ore wa nijuunengo no mirai kara yatte-kita Torankusu da! Nijuunengo no chikyuu ni wa, omae wa sonzai shite inai! Kyou koko de Gokuu-san ni taosarete shimau kara na!!"

BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Interestingly, though the English version in Kai wasn't anything special, the version in Burst Limit was spot on ("Just like that Earthling? I can't really tell the differences between Kaimiya's voice and Chiba's voice for Garlic Jr. However, I do agree that Kaimiya is badass for playing Kenshiro in Fist of the North Star.kenisu3000 wrote:Anything that Akira Kamiya spouts off in the role of Garlic Jr. (during Dead Zone). In my opinion, Burst Limit is some of the best pre-Kai dubbing FUNi did for any Dragon Ball series.Payne222 wrote:Yeah, I was really happy with Burst Limit. They did a good job on that.
One of my favorites is when Goku is saying goodbye to Gohan before he uses his Shunkan Ido to take Cell to Kaio's planet (not verbatim, but something like):
"You've fought well, Gohan! Tell your mother I'm sorry... I've been so selfish to her, and given her such hard times.
*smiles slightly* ...heh... (In English) Goodbye, Gohan."
Nozawa just really blows that out of the water in both roles here, Goku's farewell is sad and depressing, but you can tell that he's happy to see how strong Gohan has become, and Gohan's shock when Goku appears between him and Cell, coupled with his voice when he realizes what his father is about to do, just really knocks the whole thing out of the water (and even in Kai, Nozawa's final "Goodbye, Gohan" is amazing).

Mine would have to be The Bardock TV Special. When Bardock is outside Freeza's spaceship and he powers up his energy ball and says " Kono wakusei Bejita no unmei, Kono ore wa no unmei, Kakarotto no unmei, soshite kisama no unmei da!!!" Which is "This is for the fate of Planet Vegeta, My fate, Kakarot's fate, and your fate!!" Now that gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it. Nozawa absolutely kill it son!!

My favorite is Freeza's self-description of being the "most powerful (or strongest) in the entire universe." Just the way it's said in the original version... something about "kono uchuu ichi nanda" or something like that (I don't know Japanese) just sounds so cool the way he says it. He like makes it into a grand title or something, rather than just describing his power.

I think it's, "I shall give you a fate worse than death." I think it was Freeza who said that."I promised you, didn't I? That I'd show you a nightmare worse than Hell."
I have many favourites, but one that comes to mind right now is Vegeta looking at Boo and simply saying,
"Heh what a pleasant fellow."

I almost didn't post this because I'm afraid of misquoting the specifics, but my favorite line in Japanese belongs to Freeza. It's the first line that he say shortly after incapacitating Piccolo in the episode where Goku goes Super Saiyan. I'm inevitably going to misquote the exact words, but I know the gist of it and love Nakao's delivery.
"For a moment, I thought I was going to die...that the great Freeza had been BROUGHT TO THE BRINK OF DEATH!!!"
Simultaneously my favorite moment in the Japanese version of DBZ and one of my biggest let-downs for the Japanese version of Kai. Nakao wasn't bad in his delivery of the line in Kai, but it had this, "been there, done that" vibe to it.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."
