The "tankoubon" are the collected releases in Japan from when after the series appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump. There are 42 volumes, all under the title "DragonBall", that collect the whole series. This is roughly the same format Viz released it under over here as the "Graphic Novels" (still 42 volumes, but split with a "DB" and "DBZ" break).

The word you're looking for is "censor" (well, in this case "censored"). "Censure" is an entirely different word. Just trying to help

Thank you very much, rereboy, for posting these. I had some enquiries on the VIZBig's and you've cleared it all up for me!

It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Yeah, I'm just 4 volumes away from completing the whole collection.
I like the Viz Bigs better though, so I'll get those too. Any chance of getting bigger sized manga than them?
Edit:
Just checked my copy of Vol 9. Bulma's rack is censored there too. I have the old version of Vol 1 and her shower scenes are uncensored. All the new ones are censored.

or it could have had the final chapter presented totally in color, something that its even rarer than the Kanzenban ending and that is only included in the original Shonen Jump issue that had the last chapter and in Daizenshuu 2
The final chapter (Oob & Goku running off Chapter) in my VizBig is fully in colour.

So is there a run with the last few pages colored and one without?

I don't see how that would be possible. Scan pages 476 and 477 so we can see them please.

Wondering if somebody could tell me what kind of censorship the "Dragon Ball: Shonen Jump Manga" volumes have.
http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-SHONE ... 541&sr=8-7
I have this from the library (first printing:March 2003; tenth printing: March 2008), and it doesn't appear to censor much. Bulma's bare breasts and butt are here, Goku's dangles, etc.
Censorship honestly bugs me to no end, so I would never buy these VizBig books, since to me the censorship is overbearing. I'd like to know what's been censored in the volumes I linked to, because if it's not much or not at all, I may have to buy these even though the color pages are black and white.

There's a search button you know, there's been plenty of threads already.

I went a few pages back in searches, and several posts pointed to this thread as a good source to find out. I don't have all day to search page after page of several threads to find out.

The version I have seems to have no censorship. But I thought I saw someone say it just depends what printing you have. I also remember there being a thread where someone was trying to find what prints where the best vs worst.

Finally got my 5 VizBigs after they shipped to the wrong country...One was slightly bent and pages crinkled but it's alright.
Love them. The pages are very high quality, the colour pages are neat, and while there is still some censorship others such as #20 ripping that man's head off are kept.

Has anyone else had issues with the binding? I hope it's just my copy, but the first DB VizBIG I bought (#1) is trying very hard to lose its cover.

So what's the general consensus on viz vs. vizbig from someone who owns both, or has done a lot of research on the differences? I really want to start collecting these, but I don't want to get vizbig if the reg. viz's are better. Is it just pretty much personal preference? How true to the originals are vizbig and are any of the dialogues changed?

If I were to collect the original VIZ tankoubon-style releases or the VIZBIG, I'd go with the VIZBIG. It's too hard to find the tankoubon-style releases without a lot of edits for sale at a reasonable price. With the VIZBIG, every release is the same. Both versions have some problems (having the same translation, they both rename Mr. Satan, Vegetto, et cetera). But if you are set on collecting the English version of the manga right now, with the VIZBIG you'll get better quality paper, some color chapters, and a much cheaper and consistent release.

Went ahead and ordered DB, Vol. 1-5 and DBZ, Vol. 1-9 on Amazon earlier. This will be my first time reading the manga all the way through and/or actually owning all of it. I used to own the first seven or so volumes of the less-censored tankoubon-style releases for Dragon Ball, and the first three for DBZ, but I sold them at a yard sell.
I <3 Amazon Store Card and Amazon Prime.

It's been done countless times before, but...

Thank you rereboy. It's threads like this that remind me of the dedication and effort fans of this community offer yet this topic in particular harks desires of owning a translated, faithful release of the manga. I've only just begun reading the regular Viz Dragon Ball manga on the train home from college and I'm literally laughing out loud. I'm also grateful that you've pointed out that it's quality prints on white paper! I'm most probably going to continue reading the manga through the VizBig incarnations. It's overall visual aesthetic improvement from the standard editions and Kanzenban elements almost makes it necessary to give them a go.

What's up with the blue-painted Kame House in Volume 1, Chapter 2, as well as Bulma's hair shifting from purple to red (?) after the first page?

The color is changing all the time in the manga. I forgot the reason for this, I wanna say it's because certain ink colors cost too much but, that doesn't seem right. I'm sure someone could answer that for you.
