Ocean Dub DVD Re-release?

Post by samuraix123 » Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:31 pm

Hello!
Will Funimation or the group that was behind the Ocean dub ever re-release a remastered version of the first 3 movies?

That's the only way I can enjoy the first 3 films. But I just wished they would release a remastered version of the first 3 films. anybody think we will get this one day?
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

No.

If you want an explanation as to why, I can offer one, but to put it as bluntly as possible, no, we will likely never see any kind of a re-release of the Ocean dub of these movies.

Yeah, I've seen both versions. Ocean's is hands down the superior for me. It's unfortunate that fans have to basically scrape through ebay to find copies of these fantastic dubs.

It comes down to basic copyright licensing issues. Funimation currently has the rights to distribute their version of Dragon Ball Z in North America and a few other regions, with their film masters, their script, their translations, their voice actors, etc. The uncut Ocean Dub (read more about the studio responsible for that dub here) was produced and released on VHS and DVD in association with Pioneer Entertainment, who is now known as Geneon Universal Entertainment and no longer affiliated with Funimation in any way, shape, or form, and Pioneer/Geneon no longer has the rights to release any of the DBZ-related content they helped produce/distribute/whatever in North America or elsewhere. So, essentially, the Ocean dubs of these first three films and the edited versions of the first two seasons of DBZ are stuck in some kind of convoluted legal limbo in which (seemingly) no one has the proper rights to legally distribute them.

But hypothetically, couldn't FUNimation release the Ocean cast's dub provided they paid the proper royalties to the different involved parties?

It's shame really :( My friend made me a copy of the dead zone ocean dub with Dragon-Box quality. It's great! But I just wanted an official remastered version of it.

Really is. The Ocean Dub of the films feel so good as watching FUNi's Kai Dub.

Ocean Goku on a DBZ film felt like imitating Masako, and saying Kaio-ken was clearly so accurate. Ocean Dub voices are pretty damn awesome, bring them back FUNimation! :D

Ocean Dub DVD Films can be found on Amazon for cheap low prices (for the international buyers it goes up to $10+ :? ).
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:

I mean there is big difference at-least in my opinion between the Funimation voice actors and the Ocean actors. take this clip for example
Goku vs Ginger and Nikki
Ocean version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f9HkfRO ... re=related
I love the slowness of when Goku says ''Power Pole extend'' but the Funimation version goes so fast and doesn't have as much passion? I also love the sound of the pole stretching
Funimation version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCybm8gKono
I love the First 53 episodes and the first 3 movies of the ocean dub. I just wish that we could get a nice HD version of it.

I'm not sure how much was actually done, but I remember there being a series of YouTube videos where the Ocean cast audio was ripped from the DVDs and synced to Dragon Box footage.

Staff edit- Nothing in this post needed to be said, the entire basis of it was to try and get around a rule, and to flout doing it.

I already know were I can download all 53 episodes of the ocean dub in Dragon-Box quality  . But I'd rather have an official release. besides I have all 53 episodes of the ocean dub on DVD. and a copy of The Dead Zone ocean dub Dragonbox quality.

If that place where I think you know where to get DBOX Ocean Dub downloads is the same that I am thinking, the downloads don't work anymore.

As for the Movies themselves, there just isn't a sufficient amount of demand and profit that could be made from such a release. A waste of money if you ask me. Same can be said for the original 53 episodes.

If you really want some sort of remastered video quality with the original English dub audio, I'd just simply suggest doing it yourself instead of waiting indefinitely on an official release which will never happen.

The dubs for episodes 1-52 will probably never see the light of day, due to the fact that they all use music which Saban still has licensing rights to. As such they would have to pay residuals back on sales.

If it weren't for the music issue, they could've probably included an SD version with the Blurays they were doing as an extra, but again, music.

I think they could probably reissue the first three movies without this problem, though. My assumption is they probably don't think people are interested however. So it might be something to ask for.
My favorite movie henchman is Sancho.

Even if Funimation could release anything dubbed by Ocean they would NEVER do it. They've worked hard to erase people's memories of the original dub and wouldn't dare introduce anyone who could potentially give a better performance than their current cast.

Besides that no one in America would accept the voices as pretty much all of today's DBZ fans have an emotional attachment to the Funimation cast because it's what they heard first. The only demand for Ocean actors is in the UK where it aired and Funimation obviously could care less about releasing anything over here.

If it matters anything, Manga Entertainment UK was supposed to release the UK DBZ Orange Bricks back in 26th December 2011, but it was delayed/cancelled.

Image

Manga UK could make profit off the Ocean Dub Z if they'd release the series/films on DVD, they would need to licence the series/films but in return with decent prices the income would be fairly good.

If Manga Ent. UK priced "Ocean Dub Vol. 01 - Eps 001 to 005" for £10 would anyone pre-order? I'd surely do! Though, normally they price DVDs around £20-ish.

I'm personally not interested in the Funimation dub of Z apart from movies 4 onwards. Also from what I've heard the "orange bricks" are supposed to be terrible so... yeah.
