I used to be on a
certain website for the discussion of various Nintendo-licensed properties forum the summer before Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released, and things were run much differently there than they are here. I had forgotten about this for a while, until recently, when I've started posting in the
website of a game that I am anticipating greatly forums. I find it extremely annoying to even attempt a single conversation over there. Not only is the website itself aesthetically cluttered, but the moderation is incredibly lax, and the users aren't expected to make meaningful comments. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation?
Edit: Fixed to protect the innocent.
Also, this isn't intended to be a "ALL FORUMS ON THE INTERNETS ARE INFERIOR TO US" type post, I just really appreciate what goes down here on a daily basis.

Not so much forums but forum moderators. If you get banned here without a doubt you deserved it. EX gives people SO many chances to fix their shit and is never mean about warnings. Not once have the mods done that "Super Secret Friendship Club!!! No Normals Allowed!!!" shtick that I've seen in literally every other community. When all is chill everyone feels like a peer here and it really is a super comfortable non-confrontational environment.

I wouldn't say it ruined other forums for me, but I do consider this site a breath of fresh air. Whenever I watch a show I like, I always want to discuss the show on a more meaningful level. Unfortunately, a lot of the forums I've visited are either filled with squealy children (OMG SOOOO KAWAIII!!!!111! =^_^=), or are vitriolic as all hell (the Naruto, South Park, Heroes, and Walking Dead forums are especially bad about this). Not to sound like I'm kissing up to anyone, but everyone is treated like an equal here, regardless of how long you've been a member. Once you settle on this forum, there's a real sense of camaraderie, which I've never really gotten from other message boards in a long time. Plus, the fact that the mods here push for better spelling and punctuation is just icing on the cake for a grammar stickler like me.

Well, yeah. I'm talking about how mods enforce and encourage purposeful conversation, and the community isn't filled with snobs/people who constantly spout memes.

Yes. Other forums are full of junk posts, cluttering threads with pictures and no decent conversation ever lasts (It doesn't help that txt language is allowed).
I love this forum though sometimes I do find it too conservative...

Oh, sorry, my mistake. Well, I guess you could say this forum "ruined" other forums for me in that I now grow to expect the same level of community and intellect as there is here. When I find that it doesn't, I leave right away (I had much more tolerance for that back then than I do now).

What are you talking about? We're total snobs, as evidenced by my correcting the "EX" to having both letters capitalized in the thread title.
(Also, baaaaaaaaaaw, thanks.)
I do ask that you don't really speak disparagingly about other specific communities, though. We ain't about that. Much love to go around.

I don't want to throw around any names in particular, but... yes. But it's not so much that other forums are "ruined" in comparison. More that I'm grateful I found Daizex first before other less reputable or pleasant communities.

Right, my apologies. When typing this, I was in the middle of attempting a discussion...and it just wasn't going very well. The names have been censored. xD

To be honest, yes. I wish every other forum I'm subscribed to is as good, strict and professional as here. This place have:
- Grammar control.
- No spams allowed.
- No pirated material allowed.
- Few moderators.
Most of the other places I know are full of kids and non-existing moderators that leaves everything into chaos and total mess.

DaizEX hasn't "ruined" other forums for me per se, although it was one of the first forums that I joined and am actively participating in. The reason that it's so great is because, unlike some other forums, the moderators actually know how to do their jobs and aren't super-strict, elitist brats that jump down your throat the one and only moment you've broken the rules, the members are mature and generally contribute purposeful discussion, there's rigid grammar control, no spams or pirated material allowed, and generally, they run a tight ship.

I'm the opposite. I tend to prefer more relaxed forums that aren't very strict.
I can understand and respect forums like this that require a certain standard of punctuation, spelling and relevance to a topic but I'm personally not too fussed.

That pretty much sums up what I love about this forum. All the other forums I've been to are a complete mess.

Actually Daizex meets my minimal demands. As one of the few Internet communities so you can feel as the members of elite.
- Grammar control.
- No spams allowed.
- Reasonable moderators.
ATM I know 3 English Speaking communities where most of the users meet the first requirement and second and third are mostly obeyed. I've never understood why it's a big problem for some individuals to materialise their thoughts in proper spelling and grammar. For non-native English speaker with all forms of dyslexia that's really big deal.

I'm inclined to agree. I took out any and all images in my signatures on other boards. They really just clutter things up.

Because sometimes it can be hard for other members to understand you with bad grammar. Of course, if English isn't your native language or you're dyslexic, it's understandable.

This forum spoiled me. When I joined I was involved with five other forums but over time I found myself visiting them less and less. I started really hating the replies and members there. The very poor grammar and spelling errors (which I didn't mind... at first), constant derailing topics, and just downright asshole members who for some reason never got banned.
There was a One Piece related forum I constantly visited and on one thread I accidentally misused the term "deus ex machina" to describe a certain ending of a chapter. For two pages everybody on the forum jumped on me. Now, I don't really care if they made fun of me, I can take a joke, but some members were seriously offended and angry by it. And again, this went on for two damn pages!
I really like this forum, one of the best ones out there and I truly mean that. The members and mods here are really great and very helpful.

You could almost pay for this forum because it is so damn good.

Shhh, don't say it too loud!
But I totally agree with most of you guys. I'm not native English speaker, but my eyes cry blood when I see brats writing all around the internet like a damn sms, or don't know the difference between "it's" and "its", or use "should of", among many other things. I really love to talk and read in this community, always meaningful posts. It is a joy for a fan's mind as well as for his eyes.

There is defiantly something about this forum that separates it from the others. Everything that was listed above of course, there's a certain professional and upstanding feel to the community. It's like it was created with the knowledge of how and why other forums become so messy and intolerable. This is a great place, and all the rules are perfect and are needed to keep it so clean and comfortable.
