Info about UK release of DBZ TV series

Post by TestDemo » Thu Mar 15, 2012 8:23 pm

See here: http://www.toei-animation.com/en/node/1066

Apparently Manga intend to release DBZ this summer in the UK. I wonder when the cross media promotion campaign will appear and where?

BTW, here that promotional flyer that advertised a release last December:

£29.99 or even £24.99 is a bit too much considering what the quality of these sets are.

They should've licenced the Dragon Box Z instead and so whoever wanted them would import, because the FUNi DB BOX Z are OoP.

I wouldn't be surprised to see reviews complaining about the quality.

Any proper fans of Dragon Ball Z will have already got a region 1 release by now it kind of funny though that it is finally coming to UK after 10 years of being shown on TV here. I agree it would of better for them license a Dragon Box release but it probably would of cost Manga to much.

If Manga UK were to release Dragon Box Z UK sets in unlimited quantities, each volume were to have 40 episodes and for £24.99 or £29.99, I think everyone would be happy to purchase them.

Region coding would likely be a problem, but just get a Region Free DVD Player, they're so cheap nowadays.

It's Dragon Ball Z and on DVD's format so they'd definitely make money off it.

Manga UK tends to cancel anime series on Blu-ray (not profitable). :?

So glad this is finally happening. Thinking of a way in which I can support this despite owning three different versions of the series including the orange bricks.

I know that we guys on the forum won’t buy this, but I know plenty of Dragon Ball fans in the UK who haven’t imported the series yet.

my issue is the official press release by Toei states that:
The new licensee is planning to release the 1st of the 9 boxes this summer and to support the launch with a complete cross-media promotion campaign.
I don’t know if there is any products witch this can cross-promote with, manga UK doesn’t do any real advertising like television promotion for their products.
so I’m trying to think of outlets I may be clutching a straws but maybe a TV airing which will help introduce the series to the younger generation who weren't around 7 years ago when the series finished airing on Cartoon Network UK.

I do think this will go well for Manga UK regardless.

Edit: just saw this on manga Uk's twitter.
Worst kept secret in the anime biz isn't it? Will reveal all at MCM Expo Birmingham on Sat 31t March.
can't wait to see what they say.

Also attempted to re-access the site and getting an access denied message is anyone else getting this?

I'm getting that "Access denied" page too.
"Those transformations insane,
They wanna turn up hours late and steal the show from the pros who had to die for the name." - Yamcha (DBWTF: Z-Rap 3)

"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

It seems Toei has removed the page. NVM, what was on the page is now on DaizEX's homepage anyway.

I was able to access it last night, they removed it quite recently then.

This has been an interesting story to track. First we heard about the bonus features, and it was happening. Then Manga UK insults their fanbase, and says it's not happening. Then we get a flyer, and it's happening again! Then the date passes with nothing happening, so it's not happening again. Then we get an official announcement that it IS happening! Then, said official announcement is taken down with no explaination, so it's back to not happening. Well, if there's an official announcement on March 31st, maybe that'll break the cycle.

If it was removed, it could be a sign of being delayed once again, I don't have much respect or faith for Manga Entertainment since they don't treat their fans very well.

They said Akira Blu-ray Steelbook was to only have 10,000 copies and then they produced more, it was supposed to be a Limited Edition item. --"

Manga UK still can licence the Dragon Box Z instead, if the orange bricks haven't, and with the English Dub w-US replacement music, plus Region 1/2, they could make a shitload money off of their own UK Dragon Box Z's.

Dragon Box Z costs more, but it's much better than the Orange Bricks.

Licencing the Levels 1.1 and 1.2 wouldn't do them any good since they were cancelled. :|

Uhm...I'm totally not in the know, in regards to how licensings and sub-licensings work (so pardon my ignorance), but if MangaUK had to go to Toei...why are they using FUNimation's orange brick masters if they could just get something from Toei?

Yeah, it makes sense to get FUNimation's dub audios for an english speaking audience.....but didn't they get the Ocean dub for the series all the way through? And, from the promo picture, FUNimation's logo isn't even in the box (unlike with the Madman sets). Plus, why go out of your way to get the worst possible masters for the first release ever...when you're already handling with the main licensor?

Regardless, last years kick in the nuts from all the happy twitter stuff with them was the final push to get the Dragon Boxes (actually, I might've already had the first 2). Now that I have all 7, I can sit back, wait for more Dragon Boxes from FUNimation and pull out the popcorn to see what comes from all this mess lol

In UK they aired the Ocean Dub version but it seems as though the FUNimation Dub also broadcast there.

Maybe Manga Ent. UK is not licensing the Dragon Box Z footage due to how expensive might be and could lead them to bankruptcy if it wouldn't sell well (it'd probably sell like hotcakes as it'd be imported to various countries because the FUNi DB BOX Z are no longer available).

GAME, GameStation, GamePlay, these three game stores shut-down recently in UK, I'm surprised Manga Entertainment is still alive. For those that used to buy games from these stores are better now just ordering online.

I wasn't even talking about getting Dragon Box masters. Just...something that wasn't the orange bricks. I would think that that's something that they could get from Toei without going balls to the wall with licensing costs.

Really? Because even as far Cartoon Network here in Europe, the only english stuff I remember them showing was from the stuff up to Vegeta (which was just the stuff with Ocean studios)

For the Freeza arc Ocean didn't dub those episodes, so they had to air them anyhow, so FUNi's Dub was used, I suppose.

The Pan-European CN is mediocre, rarely ever an animated series is shown and then from 8PM it changes to an antique film channel.

Really strange this whole situation. Why would they put a page up on the website and then remove it straight away? Annoying because this is the second time it has happened.

Anyway, I'm from the UK and I've already bought all the orange/blue/green (DBZ/DB/GT) bricks as well as all the movies too so I won't be able to support the UK releases when they DO finally release them. However, if they were to release the DragonBoxes or something over here sometime I might buy them... also I assume they will be releasing the Funimation Dub instead of the old Ocean Dub.

There's obviously the Ocean dub for the first 67 episodes, but that's heavily cut up. The later dub doesn't start until 108 (or 118?) and ends with 291, but that's still somewhat edited and would require some resyncing (though obviously not as much as the first 67 episodes.) For 67-108, an Ocean dub doesn't even exist. I think it's understandable that there's no Ocean audio. (As far as I'm aware...)

MangaUK just tweeted: "U guys r worse than Manga Jnr at Christmas. Now stop the idle speculation about what new announcements we have and wait until 31-March."

Do they want us to hate them? Man.

Still, i'm undecided about these. If ever the opportunity comes around to get the DBoxes, i'll pick them up in a heartbeat. I just can't afford them though. These sets could be good, on the off chance that they don't use orange brick footage.

Good god.... I actually feel bad about having bought their products before. Say what you will about Funimation, but I have never heard of them treating their customers this way.
