Question about Vegeta in Trunks' Timeline
When Trunks came to Goku's timeline, he could turn into a super saiyan.
It is implied in the TV Special that he had to train hard to become a SSJ whilst in the Manga special he has the ability the whole time.
Well, here is a theory proving that he may have had to train much harder than his 'Chibi' counterpart
Was Vegeta capable of turning into a Super Saiyan in that alternate future?
There is no indication when Trunks emerges that he knows his father was a Super Saiyan. I think he was not one, probably something to do with Vegeta's levels of training. We know Goku probably didn't train hard as he had no idea about the androids, and I know Vegeta was driven by Goku's SSJ but what if something happened to slow that drive? Perhaps he focused on raising his son?
In the timeline we all know Vegeta was a super saiyan around the time Trunks was concieved. So was Goku when Goten was concieved.
Could that explain why Future Trunks seems to be indeed weaker than his 10-year-younger counterpart? Genetic catalysts meaning Trunks and Goten could go SSJ straight away?

Re: Question about Vegeta in Trunks' Timeline
Well wouldn't Trunks be 1 yrs old by the time the androids appear? Maybe Trunks in the apocalyptic timeline was conceived to a Vegeta that was not yet a SSJ (possibly didn't awake his powers just yet) and the one in the main timeline was already SSJ (even more intense training since he has both the incoming threat and surpassing Goku to motivate him. Just my 2 cents

Re: Question about Vegeta in Trunks' Timeline
It's possible, but that's about it. I don't think there's any way of telling whether Vegeta was a Super Saiyan when Trunks was conceived in either of the two timelines. So the idea fits what we see, but it's just one possibility.
It's worth mentioning that the guides and Toriyama have never said anything like it, I suppose. The guides say that the hybrids born without tails master things (like Super Saiyan) more easily from an early age. One could theorize that tailless hybrids are born when the parents are already Super Saiyans at the time of conception, but Toriyama gave a different answer when asked why they were born without tails, so I guess this is an idea that never occurred to him.

Re: Question about Vegeta in Trunks' Timeline
Yeah, the guidebooks never mentioned anything about the parents being Super Saiyans during the time of conception, all they say is that these kids are really gifted.
Trunks was also raised in a different world. The currents of the main history didn't need to hide, and spared with Goten a few times. And we know that someone who stay transformed in Super Saiyan for a while may rise his strength, something I doubt the Trunks in the future would do.

Re: Question about Vegeta in Trunks' Timeline
Unlike Goten and present Trunks, future Trunks doesn't seem to have mastered Super Saiyan yet, as shown by his difficulty to fight even base Gohan (who, even though it could be seen as merely encouragement, told Trunks that he could surpass even him in a couple of months, and Trunks would easily see through that if it was a complete lie).
I think future Trunks transformed due the Androids. Maybe even an encounter in which Dr. Brief was killed, since we see that part of Capsule Corporation and its surrounding area is destroyed.
I believe that future Vegeta was a Super Saiyan, since Cell was only surprised at his strength, not the fact that he was a Super Saiyan (he knew about Freeza's death, had data on Trunks and the bug robots had been monitoring them up until then).

Re: Question about Vegeta in Trunks' Timeline
Yeah that makes pretty good sense. I take it you're referring to the manga then, right? Also you could argue that Future Trunks lacked any proper training until he was at least a teen, making mastering Super Saiyan "less natural" than main timeline Trunks, who grew up with Vegeta as a father who trained him and kept him in shape, etc.Piccolo Daimao wrote:Unlike Goten and present Trunks, future Trunks doesn't seem to have mastered Super Saiyan yet, as shown by his difficulty to fight even base Gohan (who, even though it could be seen as merely encouragement, told Trunks that he could surpass even him in a couple of months, and Trunks would easily see through that if it was a complete lie).
