While we're talking about this news, I have to admit, the IQ card thing kinda interests me... since there's apparently going to be over 50 characters in this game, what if they release more character cards that add even more characters to the game?

While I don't think of it as this year's main DBZ Title, I don't have high hopes of this game being good, after playing some games on Kinect myself (it's not terrible, but atleast to me uninteresting and alittle unresponsive at times). In my opinion Motion Controls are alittle redundant, imagine someone trying to pull off Future Trunk's Burning Attack.

- Namco Bandai Games Announces Newest Evolution In The Beloved Fighting Series -

NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe today announced that Dragon Ball Z For Kinect™ will be coming to the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft this October. All of the classic action and intensity of the Dragon Ball Z universe will be felt with an unprecedented sense of immersion when players learn to deliver over 100 moves, including the legendary Kamehameha with their own fists as they charge their way to victory in this ultimate evolution of the classic franchise.

Developed by Spike Chunsoft Co. Ltd, players will be entering the Dragon Ball Z universe in an entirely new way. Featuring iconic characters, famous attacks, and epic battles authentically created from the original manga series, Dragon Ball Z For Kinect™ lets players unleash their inner Super Saiyan with no controller in the way! Fans will also be treated to new anime footage debuting in US and Europe for the first time, along with over 50 playable characters and an entirely new character. Leveraging the Kinect sensor, Dragon Ball Z For Kinect™ will also support QR code functionality, allowing fans to hold up special QR codes to unlock characters and power-ups in the game.

Choosing between an all-new ‘Story Mode’ and a ‘Score Attack’ mode, players will enjoy battles and events following the story of Dragon Ball in first-person view for the first time. Dramatic battles use anime-style camerawork and require the player in the same way as their character and perform the same attack or movement from a particular famous scene, creating a fusion of dramatic demo sce,es and battle controls to experience giant boss battles like never before! In ‘Score Attack’ mode, defeat opponents in 1-on-1 battles to get the highest score!

Dragon Ball Z® for Kinect™ will be available throughout North America and Europe this October.

DB Xenoverse is not a DBZ simulator with fighting elements, it's a semi competent fighting/action game with DBZ simulation elements.

Sucks that this game is going to be our main DB game of the year. I was hoping Bandai Namco would give us something special for a 10 anniversary of having a long run of game based on a anime/manga series. I hear the Star Wars Kinect game was meh and I doubt this is going to be any better.

The only exciting thing I've taken from everythign we know about the game so far: "new exclusive animation, a new character, and an all new story mode"... if this isn't just a repackage of Episode of Bardock, I'm sort of excited....

Me to. I'm not a fan of motion controls at all but a new animation would be nice. Actually thats always been something I've wanted since playing the same story over and over gets boring.

Unless the character data will be in DLC and what we saw so far in Spike's DLC to DBZ games, wasn't impressive so far.

While I may actually buy the game if it was an updated version of V.R.V.S., I think we can all pretty much agree that the evidence leads to the game featuring Episode of Bardock and Chilled as the new character, as the animation is said to be debuting in the US and Europe for the first time, no mention of Japan (assuming the game even gets released there). =P

Ah, I did not know they released a press release. Very strange given everything is embargoed until the 17th...

That box art is something special...

It's using "Saiyan Sans" for the Kinect text ... and the picture of Shenron is lifted from Ultimate Tenkaichi's marketing materials, which itself looked like it was lifted from Super DBZ.

No one said there's going to be 3 games this year. For 3 games to be released that would require all of them to launch worldwide in the fall. That has never happened before, and would be insane for a franchise where game sales are in heavy decline.

I'm of the camp that says this will likely be the only Dragon Ball game we get this year. Namco Bandai's Global Gamer's Day (which let me add, is a considerably worse name than "Level Up" - people remember "Captivate" and the latter no one's going to remember GGD) has now passed. That event had press from around the world watching. The only Dragon Ball game announced there was this one. The only stage for video games larger than a publisher run press conference with global press is E3, and there's no way they announce a new Dragon Ball game at E3. Heck, I don't even think they displayed Ultimate Tenkaichi at E3 last year. Announcing all the year's slate of Dragon Ball titles today would've given them more publicity than the JUMP announcements they usually get.

Secondly, this is Dragon Ball Z for Kinect on Xbox 360. The major games this generation have all been on Xbox 360 and PS3. This game comes out in October, which is about the usual timeframe for release. If there is another Xbox 360/PS3 fighter in the works that would mean Namco Bandai would have to release it within weeks of the Kinect game. Meaning they'd be splitting (non-existent) marketing dollars between two HD games. Not only that, but on 360 instead of just competing against every other game out there, they'd also be competing against themselves with two brand new DB titles for the same platform. They could make a PS3 exclusive entry, but that would still mean having to market two different HD games for the fall. Namco Bandai does tend to shoot itself in the foot regarding things like this (see Dragon Ball: Tenkaichi Tag Team launching weeks before RB2, or the infamous triple whammy of fall 2009 with Attack of the Saiyans, Revenge of King Piccolo, and Raging Blast) but I don't think they're that crazy.

Lastly, Spike's making the Kinect game. I don't know how large Spike is now, but I really doubt they could handle the development of two HD Dragon Ball games at once. Then again, I don't think anyone would want another straight DBZ game from Spike ever again. They've poisoned the well with RB, RB2, and UT. That leads us to the hope that someone new was taking the reigns. Maybe the return of Dimps? Well, if there was a new developer I'd imagine Namco Bandai would want to shout that from the roof tops as some sort of "REVITALIZATION OF DRAGON BALL Z" or something. It's a shame they didn't hold an event where they coul... oh.

I suppose they could release an HD port collection since those don't require marketing. There is also that potential 3DS game, but I'm of the opinion that it likely doesn't exist.

While I know it can't be, the room they're in on the cover reminds me of Vegeta's bedroom from Movie 9. XD

Gohan and Goten's poses look as if they were lifted from some earlier art, but Goku's looks fresh; I like the whole "reaching back out towards the viewer" thing, it's cute.

I keep forgetting the ssj Bardock special was never released on a game; yeah, that's probably what the animation is. *Feels disappointed*.

No where does his comment imply 3 games are to be released this year. Another comment he made is wrong, Namco Bandai US does have a community manager. His name is Rich Bantegui, but as his linked Twitter profile will tell you, he's not exactly all ears. He's also very heavily interested in more "pure" fighters, which Dragon Ball games haven't been in many years.

I will be shocked, and quite honestly appalled if they launch 3 different games this year. They certainly could, but I wouldn't think it to be a good idea.

We've seen no footage of this game, how can you make that judgment? :? I'm not going to buy this because I do not own a Kinect, and I wouldn't expect a Dragon Ball game developed by Spike to make me want one.

As for your Vita dreams, I wouldn't expect on this year.
