Because it would have given the fight an emotional resonance, and it could have easily been handwaved that Bora had gotten stronger through three years of training.son veku wrote:I am glad Bora didnt replace panputto Bora cant even climb the Karin tower

That said, I don't know if I would have wanted that because it creates the same kind of problem that the Panputto fight has: redundancy. It would have made both of Goku's pre-final fights be against an old friend. Also, then you'd have Bora in the story and have to be made relevant, and there were already enough necessary characters that he might have just made it feel cluttered. But it still would have been better than Panputto.

Re: Fights that should have lasted longer
17 vs Piccolo, does 17 even have a signature or finishing move? The fight was way too short and we never see all that 17 can do. Although the anime expanded on the fight and made it much better it still felt short.
Gohan vs Cell, another fight that feels too short for some reason even with all the anime filler. Gohan gets beat up by Cell, Cell uses his Cell Jrs to force Gohan to rage, 16 gets killed and the rest of the fight is Gohan raping Cell until the suicide attack Cell launches. And after Cell comes back he just damages Gohan's arm and they both have a Kamehameha face off.
Too short for a epic conclusion to a arc. This has to be the shortest final battle to an arc. I can guess it was shortened because we already had Vegeta, Trunks and Goku fight Perfect Cell prior?
Some others are Gohan vs Dabura, Gohan vs Boo, Goku vs Majin Vegeta, Piccolo vs Imperfect Cell and SS3 Goku vs Fat Boo.

New guy here and Honestly, I'd say Burdock vs. Freeza. I don't know why, I feel like there could've been something more, other than just 1 attack each. I also do agree on U. Gohan vs. Boo needing more action, to further flesh out the true extent of the "awaken power" Gohan acquired a few episodes prior.

Re: Fights that should have lasted longer
The one sidedness and length of the Bardock vs. Freeza fight was done to show how superior Freeza was comapared to the Saiyans and how simple it would be for him to eradicate the race, as was his plan all along after the Saiyans proved to be a potential threat. Also, Bardock was not all that strong. Even Dodoria was able to easily beat him.
So mondo lame.
Re: Fights that should have lasted longer
Piccolo vs 17. Also Goku and Vegeta the second time around. Felt like that was too short.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Hmmmmmm, I see what you mean, I guess it's been awhile since I last watched the special. It's almost a little humorous when thinking of the one sidedness of Vegeta vs. Dodoria now, I guess Bardock really would stand no chance against Vegeta in the early sagas.GotenDaisuki wrote:The one sidedness and length of the Bardock vs. Freeza fight was done to show how superior Freeza was comapared to the Saiyans and how simple it would be for him to eradicate the race, as was his plan all along after the Saiyans proved to be a potential threat. I would've like to see more of Vegetto vs. Buu in the manga. The manga felt too short while the anime did a good job of expanding the fight.

I think it was too long, what with all the filler after those "five minutes" were revealed.Bardo117 wrote:Goku Vs. Freeza

None. They were all either a good pace or far too long in the anime.
Re: Fights that should have lasted longer
Eh, I think "Thank you, Son Gokuu, for such a good fight. We must return to the Karin Holy Land now" right after the fight would suffice. Well, that or have the poor bastard offed by Daimaou.Gaffer Tape wrote:Because it would have given the fight an emotional resonance, and it could have easily been handwaved that Bora had gotten stronger through three years of training.son veku wrote:I am glad Bora didnt replace panputto Bora cant even climb the Karin tower

Or have Gokuu win easily against Chapa in the actual tournament. There's no way Gokuu could have a "real fight" against anyone but his peers (Kuririn and co.) when he defeated even Tao Pai Pai, and was even stronger then.Gaffer Tape wrote:I agree. We already got the "Goku can beat great masters in one hit" thing. Doing it again against Panputto was just a needless repeat. There was no need to give us the same information again so soon, and it really just wasted a tournament match. Toriyama should have either cut the Chappa fight entirely (so that Goku's easy win against Panputto is a great shock) or actually have a real fight between Goku and Panputto. Doing both was redundant.
I never really liked Panput anyway. Not that I was particularly meant to, but his fight with Gokuu did feel more like a preliminary match than anything, and unlike the previous "fodder" to the heroes, he didn't have anything special about it. Giran had his Guru-Guru-Gum attack or whatever; Namu had an interestingly motivated backstory (making him a sympathetic character giving his death by Daimaou an emotional response to both the main characters and the readers), could hold his own against Gokuu and had his cross attack that almost finished him off; Chapa had his Hasshu-ken and even Roushi was afraid of him.

Tenshinhan vs. Drum and Piccolo. Seriously, how fast did that happen anyway? How long did it last? I don't even think he fought Piccolo, not for very long anyway. If memory serves him and Drum brawled for a bit then he used the Mafuuba against Piccolo, it failed, and then Goku arrived.

It was even shorter in the manga, where Tenshinhan realized the rice cooker for the Mafuuba had been broken from his training sessions at the last minute, but he went ahead to fight anyway. However, in both scenarios, Piccolo brought out Drum because he didn't feel the need to dirty his hands on Tenshinhan, who was subsequently wrecked.Kuririn Of Orin wrote:Tenshinhan vs. Drum and Piccolo.
