What exactly is the purpose of YouTube's DBZ 2K HD videos?

Post by dbboxkaifan » Sat Apr 14, 2012 8:45 pm

They don't really look better being in a 2K resolution and those that are from the orange bricks, ugh, so terribly looking PQ.

I honestly don't get the point of those 2K HD videos since their original resolution is either 480 (Orange Bricks) /1080 (Kai).

Since they're trying to "remaster" what's been remastered, they should take a shot at orange bricks then (changing brightness/saturation/colours).
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

It's a false HD type of thing. It's simply a number of filters added onto the footage and saved into 1080p, somehow creating 2K HD when in reality that's not even available.

The end result looks shit.

In the end though, it's a way to attract more views.

I've seen some of them and some of them are so over saturated with color that it looks horrible! but some of the comments below the video would say ''Nice quality bro'' I'm like XD  I love Youtube
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Yep, the 2K upscale is a complete waste of time. Not only would they need higher bitrate when encoding the video to avoid macro blocking but most monitors only go as high as 1080p. This would mean that the video would then have to be downscaled by youtube to fit the users screen. So basically your going from 480p -> 2K -> 1080p. Theres no advantage to upscaling to 2K.

On YouTube, it seems that "HD" almost means upscaling, horizontally stretching, and saturating the video. :?

I've already commented to makers of AMVs that they should use the Dragon Box as their source rather than the Orange Bricks. People complain though, "4:3 isn't HD noob," it gets really annoying after a while. Honestly, it's just a false HD. Upscaling an already poorly done remaster just isn't smart, and the end result shows it.

Don't you dare critique them either, they'll hound you through PM! I once told someone to not force stretch 4x3 to 16x9 but instead crop it. Make it look somewhat nice It went over his head and accused me of raping his family name.

I'll check if I still have the PMs on YouTube. This was more than a year ago, so I might not have proof anymore. The person was quite notorious in several DB related forums.

Hahah, I made a video explaining why it's fake and people flame it all the time with their "hoshi is so real fag" comments.

Anyway, I guess peoples' ignorance and the fact that they know nothing about the upscaling and whatnot makes it easy to trick them into thinking it's true 2k. But wow. How ignorant can they be? You can clearly see the horrendous color saturation. People think that looks good!?
So mondo lame.

That's all right buddy don't trouble yourself I believe you :) Most of the time when someone says ''someone on Youtube said this to me'' 9 out of 10 it's probably true.

What is worse is that many of these "2K" videos come from a low quality source from the internet such as a torrent.

Then they flip the video which I hate. I know why they do it but I hate it.

Make your own original videos instead of uploading episodes. Fandub clips are okay to me as they are somewhat "original". Full episodes are not and I would like to see an episode untouched by someone "up-scaling" it.

I've seen someone making these "type" of HD videos, over-saturating the over-saturated Orange Brick quality, and demanding money from it's viewers for the knowledge of how to do achieve this quality. :|

It's frightening what people do with DB on Youtube.

Many times it's not just DB. Indy filmmakers love to crop their videos to simulate the aspect ratio of the cameras used in Hollywood. Then they over use colour grading. It doesn't even look good!

It's their fault if they fall for such a thing. I've got so sympathy for those type of people, they should know better.
