I wonder if they're still doing that, though.
That was a few months back. Since I was picking up Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh I ended up getting 3 bags but none of them had that image (just the Goku as seen staring at Sun Wukong with Yugi in the other side of the bag)

As for volume packs, I really doubt it. At this point, I just hope they keep up the release...

Also, I have the Special "Manga Style" Edition (the first release of Dragon Ball), and they STILL removed the nipples. >_>

Wow, I hadn't realized it! It means that the collection will continue, awesome.

I doubt that they have released it already in most stores. Its probably just available from their website right now.

I asked Bongop a while ago, and it seems that the release was extended to volume 18 (for the forseeable future).

At least they won't leave the Piccolo fight hanging. Lets hope they continue...

They just put it up today on the website for pre-order, actually. (I had actually checked yesterday and it wasn't there.) It's set for release in April 10th. Already pre-ordered it (thanks to Red Tiger's post) since it always takes a few days to get to stores. (Directly through them, you get it the next day. Or so it happened to me with volume 16)

(Sorry for the semi-necro-double-post)

I just got my volume 17 in the mail. Here's the rundown of the two major doubts we had:

- We now have "Kakarrot". I love seeing that spelling with the 2 "r"s)
- And we have "Saiyan". Personally, I would've prefered "Saiya" but I have no problem with it, since 90% of the race's puns are in english anyway lol.

I guess the only major stuff left would be just Vegetto and Mr.Satan, right? If they actually move past volume 18, we can bank on a pretty solid release. (Except for Chi-Chi and God, but whatever...)

EDIT: Oh, fuck. I'm currently reading and have already read "Saiyanjin" twice.... Saiyan warrior was fine, damn it....

EDIT 2: Just finished reading it. They only used "Saiyanjin" twice. The standard seems to be Saiyan. Let's hope they stay consistent...
When Piccolo starts charging his attack the first time, they used "raio da morte" (death beam). However, after that, they did keep Makankosappo everytime.

Just got back from reading volume 17 at FNAC (I'm cheap, so sue me), and adding to what Rukura said...

- I'm not sure, but I don't think the original had Makankōsappō where the translation used 'raio da morte.'
- Being extremely familiar with this part of the series in particular, and its original script, I can say this: for the most part, this is an extremely literal translation.
- 'Saiyan warrior' was used a few times, possibly as a nod to people who grew up with the dub which used 'space warriors.'
- They seem to be actively avoiding having to pluralise the word Saiyan (using stuff like 'saiyan warriors' to dodge the necessity of a plural)
- They still add -sama to God/Kami's name even when it's not said in the original. Seeing Piccolo say "Kami-sama" is weird.
- Nappa's "Super Saiyan" at the end of the volume was written as "Super-Saiyan" (or possibly "Supersaiyan," hard to tell with how the line's divided inside the word bubble).
- They added a TL note after the 23rd Budōkai with "In the TV version, this is where Dragon Ball Z starts."
- Farmer with Shotgun's northern accent is hilarious.
Rukura wrote:I guess the only major stuff left would be just Vegetto and Mr.Satan, right?
And several minor characters in the Boo arc, as well as the Djinn thing.

That is all.

I can't blame you, with how uncertain it is that they'll actually release all of it... (at least now I have all the manga up to Raditz)

On that, I checked the dialog in the anime and he does say it. They also translated the title for the following chapter "Raio da morte", which, according to Kanzenshuu's manga guide, was indeed Makankosappo in the japanese version.

Not pluralizing Saiyan is kinda understandable given how they're just using an english adapted word, it'd be kinda awkward. Not as awkward as "saiyaNjin", though..... (I'm so annoyed by that one. Seriously. )

I am hoping that the 'saiyanjins' thing was just an accidental search-and-replace error.

Seems like a case of them wanting to go back and forth between the adaptation and the original term, since it's just been introduced.
Surely you've noticed that they still jump between Dragon Balls, bolas de dragão and bolas de cristal. The problem here is them using a term that simply does not exist and is wrong in more ways than one. As long as they go with Saiyan and keep it as the sole standard, I can look past this slip-up.

Huh, it's good to know they're getting rid of the silly terms used back then and now's closer to the original ones.

It'd be great if they did a Portuguese dub for Dragon Ball Z Kai as FUNimation did for Kai (recast), but the cast would need to be unique/new or else it would just be the same VAs from other crappy Portuguese dubs.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if Henrique Feist were to be Goku again, he's really the only good thing that the Portuguese dub has. And Vegeta too, I suppose.

But nah, Portugal's too cheap for anime so why bother.

So a Tankohbon edition manga book is super small, huh? Seen it in a store for sale at 9.99€ (or 9.60€, can't remember clearly already), looks really nice, portable but I expected it to be somewhat big-ish like the others online.

I'd buy them for 5€ but not 10€, sorry, ASA.

By the way, how does one read a manga book in those bubbles?

It's slightly taller than the japanese tankoubon, but you're also paying for a higher quality paper and print than the tankoubon (hell, as far as the print in the grayscale pages, the print is better than the VizBigs)

Did you mean "read those bubbles in a manga book"? (Right to left, same as every other)

The right down bubbles and then the rest of them?

I've never actually read a manga so this'd be helpful.

It's the opposite of a regular comic. Right to left instead of left to right.

I've finally managed to get my collection up to date. I should start again with my reviews from where I left off.

Their spines look more or less like this but it all depends on how you choose to display them. Also, its natural for their spines to not align as perfectly as in this image, since its normal for some volumes to have the spine image slightly off (to the left or to right, etc).

Which is kinda sad, because the spine images do align really well in the japanese release. I just seems like it's not such a hard thing to do if they pay attention to it (as seen by how good 1-7 and 14-17 look together). Oh well. I'm getting it for the content anyway....which reminds me that ASA really needs a new editor and maybe a translator.

Yes. It's pretty nice. The only obvious mistake I've noticed is that they state that Goku's plan is to cut Radditz's tail instead of grabbing it, which obvious doesn't make sense.

Besides that, they continue to use a mix of translations, going for the adaption and for the more "literal" one, straight from the japanese, at the same time.
Examples: they use "Saiyans" and "Saiyanjins" at the same time, and they also use "raio da morte" and "makankosappo" at the same time. (I don't mind that they use "Saiyans" because the same thing adapted to portuguese would be something like "Saiyanos" or something like that. Naming them simply Saiya is also wrong because that's simply the name of their original planet, before they moved to Vegeta. Earthlings aren't called Earth so they shouldn't either. All in all, Saiyans seems to work out, borrowing from the english source).

As I've stated, this a good solution that allows the reader to grasp both "worlds". I wouldn't mind a few more translation notes on the bottom, making things even clearer, but it's nice as it is.

The only place where they didn't do this is with Kami-sama. They should use both Kami-sama and Kami (and perhaps a translation note explaining the "sama" thing). Instead they always use Kami-sama, even when Piccolo talks about him.

That's more of a problem of where they order their printing. Whoever does that for them is making the spine mistakes. But since the printing is pretty much otherwise flawless, we don't have much to complain about.

Those mistakes probably happen because its unusual for a release in Portugal to actually require such precise control over the covers so that their spine are perfectly aligned to form a image. Nearly all other releases over here probably don't need it.
