Is Ultimate Tenkaichi really that bad?
I'm watching videos on Youtube the graphics are amazing and the gameplay looks alright, it does look like the actual show. Is it at least better than Raging Blast?
Re: Is Ultimate Tenkaichi really that bad?
The combat isn't deep at all, but I found it very enjoyable. I liked the gameplay and things like character creation.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

The boss battles were annoying and the combat gets old fast. I do liked the story mode and the character creation mode was not that bad. It's not a awful game, but it could have been much better. I give it a rental.

It just doesn't feel like a real fighting game to me. But I prefer the old school style fighters and don't like cutscenes in the middle of fights. The system that UT uses has you build up meters that let you automatically do super moves. Personally I really hate that since it removes a lot of the suspense but it does add some strategy. But the regular moves are really lacking to.

The graphics are perfect though, well damn, I hope the make a Tenkaichi style game with these graphics.
Re: Is Ultimate Tenkaichi really that bad?
I didn't think Ultimate Tenkaichi was that bad. My main complaints are the online (so many dropped fights...), and the fighting could be more involved. My other complaint would be that if you get hit with a Melee(?) triangle attack (and whatever the 360 equivalent is), and your opponent charges up enough energy to do a super move, you can easily lose anywhere from 10000-20000 points in your health.
Forgive the vague terms, I haven't been playing UT lately (or my PS3 for that matter), and I have little time to type this.

From the videos i have watched, it should be a 20$ game. Yeah the graphics looks very good, but if you seen one fight, you seen them all, just with other characters.

Re: Is Ultimate Tenkaichi really that bad?
The people were expecting a "Raging Blast 3" or "Budokai Tenkaichi 4" out of Ultimate Blast but instead they/we got a totally different game from the usual.
It consists of pressing a combination of buttons correctly within given time, and also goes from 2D to 3D. Graphics are fantastic, music too, the online mode is that thing.. For online battles you're better off playing a different fighting game because, 1) more people, 2) more social, 3) more fun.
Gaming is at the point were it revolves around the online mode and yet Namdai hasn't given a God damn decent online mode on any DBZ game, well, they may be decent for the first few months but then they die out as fans leave the game in the case.

Re: Is Ultimate Tenkaichi really that bad?
I don't think the online mode is so bad because the online is so bad, but because the games themselves just aren't that good fighters. You can't compare the online of DB games to the online of, for example, SF or Tekken games since the games are of the quality which allow people to be able to can to want to get better and better. It's the reason DB games aren't competitive, which ties in to what I have to say in another thread; there just isn't enough to make people want to continue playing.
I will say though that BL's online was exceptionally terrible. It was super laggy, not very-well presented, laggy and some more laggy. Wasn't a very good overall experience if you ask me, but I guess that wasn't their fault. And did they even use online updates back then?

I haven't played Ultimate Tenkaichi so I can't give an answer but I do have a question about it.
Doesn't the English voices switch from the original Z cast and the Kai cast? Is that annoying or is it something that can be ignored and not noticed?

The English voices are mixed up, FUNimation Z with FUNimation Kai, e.g., Freeza at one point might be talking with Ayres vocal and then with Linda's vocal afterwards.Codarik wrote:I haven't played Ultimate Tenkaichi so I can't give an answer but I do have a question about it.

Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYb-ixjRiiQ 0:44 - Linda / 1:36 - Ayres
You have the choice of Japanese audio and English dub track.

Re: Is Ultimate Tenkaichi really that bad?
Like most game reviews generally state "It's fun to watch....not to play". And they were right, I love watching it being played, but I would never pay $60 to push 1 or 2 buttons and play the matching game.

Hearing two voice actors playing one character in one scene like that must be really annoying. Can you imagine Gohan's voice being like that?

I guess they said for the people who want a mix between Z and Kai? I'm pretty sure they only recorded dialogue for Hero mode and most of the story mode since they didn't want to pay the voice actors. They re-use a lot of the dialogue from the first two RB games.

Wasn't it said they didn't bother much with the English dub for UB international release to be consistent with the voices English FUNi Kai voices?Hellspawn28 wrote:I guess they said for the people who want a mix between Z and Kai? Couple months back I played RB2 and never ever noticed any of the old voices on the game with the English dub, it was just FUNi Kai vocals. Guess they didn't do a very good job with the English version.

Re: Is Ultimate Tenkaichi really that bad?
If I view Ultimate Tenkaichi as the successor to the DBZ game I play online/with friends every year? Then yes, it's pretty lackluster. If I view Ultimate Tenkaichi as a fun little gaiden game to snatch up for $19.99 and putter away between free time, work, school, and friends? Yeah it's pretty fun. It does enough differently to warrant trying it out, but it's just so restrictive. The cover art is beautiful, the graphics are beautiful, and even the boss fights are beautiful (when you can look past the fact that, well, Spike shamelessly ripped off CC2). The roster and the oversimplified game mechanics are what really kill it for me. Especially since I though I was finally gonna get me some HD GT characters, teased in the form of SSJ4 Gogeta and Omega Shenron. :/
Don't wake me without a master plan.

Although, YES { Press [] /\ or () } the graphics in the game were { Press [] /\ or () } amazing, after a few very short fights { Press [] /\ or () } or just mashing a few onscreen buttons { Press [] /\ or () } and having the game play itself or { Press [] /\ or () } spend the whole match building up your guage just to have { Press [] /\ or () } beaten your opponent with Paper, Rock, Scissors it got { Press [] /\ or () } tiresome and felt more like I was watching { Press [] /\ or () } a fight instead of being IN the fight.
See what I did there.

It's not, I found your post exceptionally witty which is encouraging in a sea of DB Youtubers and Wikiaites.
