Dragonball Z DVD Trade?
Dragonball Z DVD Trade?
Okay, I'm a huge DBZ fan from the UK who has collected a lot of DVDs over the years. I have the orange bricks, some blu-rays, some ocean DVDs and 2 copies of the Saikyo Jump march DVD (one of which is sealed). Ever since I saw the DBZ blu-rays I have wanted a DBZ release in original 4:3 ratio. I understand the french release has this and maybe a few other releases? I'm willing to trade some of my DVDs for a 4:3 release.

Every DBZ release of the tv anime is in 4:3, save the orange bricks.dexterp wrote:Okay, I'm a huge DBZ fan from the UK who has collected a lot of DVDs over the years. I understand that. I'm after the best looking readily available 4:3 release. I'm not keen on my widescreen sets.

The best readily available 4:3 sets? The only ones that come to mind are the Dragon Boxes Z and these are OoP, but some can be found for reasonable prices sometimes.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

See I was thinking the German or French box sets? I like the worn look of the not remastered show. It reminds me of watching the ocean dub on Cartoon network.

Well, the Dragon Box DVDs are "worth" a fortune overall these days, so I doubt anyone in their right minds are going to trade them for your orange bricks, or Blu-rays (which ones? The canceled series ones or the movie ones?).dexterp wrote:I understand that. I'm after the best looking readily available 4:3 release. I'm not keen on my widescreen sets.
You're gonna likely have to pay a lot (around $200) for boxes 2 and 4, and quite a bit for 1 and 3 if I recall. Only 5, 6, and 7, are readily and at an affordable cost. Otherwise you're stuck with the orange bricks for the first 2 sets, the single DVDs until the Cell arc, and then the Dragon Boxes for the last three sets.
Doesn't that directly contradict what you said about wanting the best looking sets?dexterp wrote:See I was thinking the German or French box sets? I like the worn look of the not remastered show. It reminds me of watching the ocean dub on Cartoon network.
Anyway, if that's the case, then you'd want the uncut FUNimation 4x3 singles that are available for dirt cheap and cover the Freeza (or Ginyu, depending on how you look at it) arc all the way to the end of the series. Those have the exact same footage (minus censorship) that was used on the Cartoon Network broadcasts.
Unfortunately, the 4x3 release was canceled before it reached the Namek arc, so you'd still need the first two orange bricks for those, unless you get those German or French DVDs you're looking for.

Re: Dragonball Z DVD Trade?
The French Dragon Boxes Z are quite pricey, if you want to know more about them here's the links:
Box 1: 94.85€
Box 2: 71.35€
Box 3: 77.95€
94.85€ = $125.69
71.35€ = $94.55
77.95€ = $103.30
I doubt anyone would trade their Japanese, English, French or Spanish Dragon Boxes Z but who knows, you might get lucky.

Re: Dragonball Z DVD Trade?
Stay away from both; the german ones are cut only with rather poor video, and the french boxes have poor encoding so you can see evident macro-blocking during action scenes....dexterp wrote:See I was thinking the German or French box sets?
