Found this on amazon: http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B ... 73-2872365Dayspring wrote:I would think so, but FUNi is slow with boxsets so who knows. I'm holding out too.DBZ MAN wrote:Will the ulitmate uncut edition of dragonball Z (vegeta saga etc.) ever be realesed in a dvd box set?

Since there's no "Part 1" and disc 8 is the newest, I would assume it's a typo. March 21st. Close to movie 12's release.

Please remember that "I", when referring to yourself, should be capitalized. Thanks.DBZ MAN wrote:Will the ulitmate uncut edition of dragonball Z (vegeta saga etc.) ever be realesed in a dvd box set?

Typically, when episodes are released in the Box+1 format (where you get a box that holds a season and then disc 1), you either NEVER see a complete boxset, or one MANY years later. In other words, don't hold your breath.

Confirms that this IS the second starter set, which comes with Vol. 8 "Saiyan Invasion."
The only boxset that's scheduled is the second Dragon Ball GT boxset, which covers the end of Bebi and all of Super #17.

And just for the sake of pointing out another DVD release in the US, Vol. 9 "Ultimate Sacrifice," comes out May 16, 2006. http://aaaanime.com/dvds.asp?view=item&code=FN02232

What the frig is a "Starter Set?" for Christ's sake? What bizarre terminology, especially if there are more than one. No kidding here, can someone please explain to me what that means? I'm asking because boxsets often have 3 DVDs, whereas starter sets, which are supposed to be worse, have more. Wouldn't a "starter" set simply be like a half-boxset done only once?Tsukento wrote:http://aaaanime.com/dvds.asp?view=item&code=FN02220

A starter set is Volume 1 + Box to hold the future releases in. Sometimes with some bonus, to encourage the people to buy the series. Is quite popular with anime DVD releases.

Oooooh...that makes sense. Doesn't make sense that it's so disturbingly expensive though...Ash wrote:A starter set is Volume 1 + Box to hold the future releases in. Sometimes with some bonus, to encourage the people to buy the series. Is quite popular with anime DVD releases.

Actually it's usually$15 to $20. That's practically a whole second DVD.Tsukento wrote:Don't worry. FUNimation's not the only one who does it. Dunno what the logic is that makes a cardboard box $5 to $10 and drives up the price to the DVD.

Well, stop buying at Suncoast.Tsukento wrote:Depends on the store. Some places charge $30 for the starter, while the regular DVD is $25. Either way, for three episodes per DVD, we're getting hella ripped off. >_>
The "expensive" excuse never cut it, and will continue to not cut it. The discs, individually, are never more than $20 at decent retailers. In fact, they're $16.99 at Best Buy... that's online *and* in stores. Here's the listing for Vol. 8 of the "Ultimate Uncut Edition" at Best Buy. You can pre-order it for the same price on Amazon. Even on Amazon for the discs that are already out, they're $21.99. You have a hard time finding these in stores after they've been out for a bit, so it's best to get them on-release or pre-order, anyway. And since they're so ridiculously cheap to do so...

When did I say I did?VegettoEX wrote:Well, stop buying at Suncoast.

I wasn't using the expensive bit as any kind of excuse. I was simply pointing out how ridiculous the main retail price (which is $24.98) is for only three episodes. Though I do use the examples you've pointed out when people complain about not wanting to buy DVDs and wanting to download episodes.VegettoEX wrote:The "expensive" excuse never cut it, and will continue to not cut it. What I never got is that no one complained about single Tenchi Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo dvds going for $29.99 for the same amount of episodes.Tsukento wrote:When did I say I did?VegettoEX wrote:Well, stop buying at Suncoast.I buy mine off of Deep Discount DVD.

I bought Season three of The Simpsons for thirty dollars last month. My friend got season seven for forty. The "expensive" excuse never cut it, and will continue to not cut it. Both seasons had twenty two episodes with multiple lanuage tracks, including creator commentary. Paying twenty bucks for a DVD with only three episodes is ridiculous. Its price goguing plain and simple.

You're talking about a mainstream show that has HUGE companies behind it that is *guaranteed* to sell millions of copies...Victator Supreme wrote:I bought Season three of The Simpsons for thirty dollars last month. My friend got season seven for forty.

Versus some TV episodes of a show that's got a comparatively ridiculously niche audience where they have to pay license fees just in order to release it.
C'mon, people. Logic.

I would say that for a lot of animes, but not DBZ. It has a very large fan base and always sells well. Funimation released Dragonball in boxsets that never exceed forty five dollars.
How can Funimation afford to release Dragonball in this format, but with DBZ or DBGT, they trickle it out one three episode disc at a time?
