Most of us have seen this by illegal means. What do you expect? "Do you live in US? Or maybe Europe? If the answer is yes, then ow you can see Episode of Bardock legally!" Yeah, right.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

They are that lazy at Toei that they can't make the equivalent of a new episode of Dragon Ball for one or two games a year when they probably do hundreds of episodes for other shows? Cause the Episode of Burdock didn't even include a proper opening and ending and was ultimately shorter than a single "normal" episode, and it was the only Dragon Ball stuff produced in the whole year...
Why are you blaming Toei? If anything it's Namdai's fault. They're the people putting out the game, not Toei. If they weren't willing to shell out the money for a new production they should take the blame. There are plenty of reasons to dislike Toei, but this isn't one of them.

Also, with the advent of things like DB Heroes, I highly doubt Episode of Bardock was the only DB production from them.
Yeah, you're right. Sometimes I'm so pissed at the fact that Toei doesn't produce any new Dragon Ball series or Kai-remastering that I'm too quick at blaming them, but for that game, they can't really do anything if the game team hasn't ordered something new from them.
Plus, it's only a kinect game, in which they didn't put much efforts to it, so let's hope they'll announce some new animation stuff for the main game at the end of the year, although I'm afraid we're losing it a bit more everytime: original movies were like 45 minutes, then it went 30 minutes, now it's barely 17 minutes and something (Episode of Burdock)... I guess the worse that could happen is to be reduced to "get an exclusive 1 minute and a half animation" for the new opening of the game, but at least it would still be an improvement over the CGI openings back then... On PS2, we were happy enough as it were to get just a new animated opening.

In the meantime, Naruto gets 1 hour of new animation in its game... Hum, looks like some developers are putting a little more efforts to certain anime. I wonder if it's the game team that says things like "give us something but it has to be only 20 minutes long" (for money or disc space reasons) or the Toei staff that says things like "we could only make it 30 minutes long even though the original was longer" (for time constraints and budget reasons).

Just to have it legally some will probably buy it for Episode of Burdock.

Even though EoB is quite crappy (imo).

EDIT

I'm probably gonna buy this for the game itself and the OVA in it.

I think I'm just going to pass on this game and wait for the OVA to come out. I don't even own a Kinect anyways :?
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

PtEtSS hasn't been released elsewhere with English subs anywhere else other than with RB2, so I wouldn't count on FUNimation to release EoB neither.

Maybe there's there a slight chance Funimation might dub it. I hope they do anyway :)

My interest in this game, it's done a complete 180 now that I've learned the special is only Episode of Bardock. :( The enthusiasm is gone. I liked the special, but I wanted something new packaged with the game. This feels so lazy of them.

Still kind of hoping we'll get some new animation out of the yearly Jump Anime Tour, but I doubt it'll happen.

Granted I understand your feelings, I would have liked something new, but this I don't really get. The Xbox basically has no presence in Japan. They are putting a special that the western fanbase hasn't legally had access to (at least not a version they can understand since there were no subs on the region free stream) on a game that is really only going to be marketed at the western hemisphere. So how is it lazy to give the fans access to material they didn't have before?

If anything, it feels lazy that Funimation isn't getting the rights to release all this recent new material. I know they aren't being lazy and that they want them, but we now have three specials that are just sitting in limbo with no planned DVD release. Just feels like we're getting nowhere.

I defiantly agree with that DevilsCorpse. I wished instead of just having the movie, special, ova whatever it is, on the game disc, they would just package a small DVD case with the game and presto! but no...they don't or maybe I'm missing something by saying that? :? anyways it's still going to be interesting to find out if Funimation dubs this. isn't it sad that were talking more about the video that comes with the game instead of the game. :( each time I watch the trailer I get more and more turned off by it. but that's just me, I hope whoever gets it, is happy with it. :)

Dragon Ball's Episode of Burdock an OVA/Special, and secondly, why the hell would you want to see this in inferior quality to HD?

If they were to release this on its own disc, then it should be in HD's Blu-ray format.

Please have a look at this petition, it will only take a minute of your time. If you don't believe please just take a look on the off chance that it may work. http://www.petitions24.com/dragon_ball_specials
The petition is for Funimation to dub and produce the three specials that haven't been released in English, and I have spoken to a representative of Funimation who said a petition might help. please do this for the fans.

To be honest, I don't really care if FUNimation dubs them, I'm more for the subs.

Why only the three Specials/OVAs? There's more.

Dragon Ball
1. Goku's Traffic Safety (1988)
2. Goku's Fire Brigade (1988)

Dragon Ball Z
1. Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans (1993)
2. Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans - Remake (2010)
3. Burdock, the Father of Son Goku (1990)
4. Episode of Burdock (2011)
5. Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!! (2008)
6. Super Android 13's Movie Overview Special (1992)

I'd prefer if FUNimation would release the old Specials/OVAs than the new ones.

Regarding, the Dragon Ball specials, I hope FUNi licences and includes the two DB specials on the Dragon Box Dragon Ball.

Then stop wishing for it already, it's going to be released on the 26th October 2012, on the Dragon Ball Z For Kinect game. And it'll be in HD, more so, in 720p HD encoded.

PS3's PtEtSS for example, is also encoded in 720p HD. 720p or 1080p is fine by me, I just want it in HD. ^_^

Well in my opinion that's not an official release. to me it just seems like a gimmick to make you want to buy the game. :?
I'd also like a Blu-ray release of this as well. Will that happen? I doubt it, not unless Funimation mashed a bunch of the Specials, Ova's or whatever in one big pack. but yeah regardless of it's release it's going to good to see this in HD maybe dubbed?

Screw the OVA/Special packs, Singles are much better and if something goes wrong, it's just one title, not all.

Frankly, I don't care if FUNimation releases this or not, they've not done for the 2010 OVA so I don't expect them to do it for the 2011 OVA.

DBZFK is a western game so I suppose it'll come dubbed, but hopefully it'll be subbed as I don't plan on watching it dubbed.

It could be just some stupid restricted license agreement from Toei or something, I'm sure FUNimation would love to get their hands on those OVAs and speicals but probably can't for that reason.

Even if FUNimation ever gets to release them, I'm not expecting that to happen for quite a while. Remember how FUNimation said that they wanted to get the Dragon Boxes but it took a while since Toei wasn't too sure about that at first?

Well for starters the first two aren't really related to the series now are they? They are more like awareness videos and although I would definitely live to have them they don't really take precedence over the others. The same goes for the last one since since it is more of a recap. When mentioning Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans I meant both releases, and Bardock the Father of Goku has already seen an Englsih dub release. You didn't mention The History of Trunks special (also got and English release). Nonetheless if you will sign my petition should I include your list, I would be most obliged. Please sign it, I swear that I have been in contact with Funimation. I was told that for the time being there were no plans to release the movies, however that a petition would always help so that they can get an idea of how many people would be willing to buy.

I'm aware, but it still doesn't change anything. Toei is always paranoid about their products being imported at cheaper prices than their domestic releases, but they aren't even releasing and making money off the specials themselves. They give them away as freebies with magazine purchases and by sending in vouchers. They aren't making anything off keeping them domestic, but they will make money if they sell the distribution rights, so why not? It's no wonder Toei and the franchise keep spiraling down...
