What do you hope/expect in the future of Dragon Ball?

Re: What do you hope/expect in the future of Dragon Ball?
What I hope:
- In my wildest dreams, I'd love Dragon Ball Online to be released outside of Asia, and for a manga adaptation (holy crap that would be cool).
- I'd love to see a true adaptation into live action. Have Dragon Ball as one film, then Saiyan > Freeza as one, Android > Cell as another, finishing with Great Saiyaman > Boo. Directed by someone who knows what they're doing, can pick a great cast, and helped along by someone who actually loves and knows the Dragon Ball story, who will change it but not crush it like Evolution did.
- The Kanzenban released in English, as uncut as possible...please Viz?
- A great game. Not sure what it'd take, but it could be done. A genuinely great game would make people go "holy crap, this series is just mental", while getting great reviews, and therefore great exposure. This could kick off everything else really.
- Also, a "Budokai Tenkaichi Pack" for the new consoles, with updated graphics and great online support.
What I expect:
- More OVA's (I'm fine with this, I quite enjoy them).
- More Dragon Ball SD (again, it's quite fun so why not).
- More sub-par quality games.
- Hopefully, some interesting Heros stuff.

Re: What do you hope/expect in the future of Dragon Ball?
Well, what I'd like to see is a big, epic-length send-off film to the current cast before they get too old or are just replaced for budget reasons. A film that adapts the backstory of Dragon Ball Online would be a fun way to close the chapter on these past nearly thirty years of Dragon Ball. Heck, it'd make a great marketing tool 'The Thirtieth Anniversary Film'!
For this film, I think it'd be a great idea to have it told from Blooma's point of view (for obvious reasons, I think). I'd like to see flashbacks to important events in the story, created from scratch using a different animation supervisor for each segment. I think it'd be a great way to show off all of the best styles at Toei and in the franchise's past.
•Maeda Minoru (Dragon Ball Hunt through Red Ribbon Army)
•Tate Naoki (Twenty-Second Tenka’ichi, Piccolo Daimaou and Twenty-Third Tenka’ichi)
•Nakatsuru Katsuyoshi (Saiyan Invasion, Namek)
•Yamamuro Tadayoshi (Artificial Humans)
•Miyahara Naoki (Cell)
•Ishikawa Shingo or Matsunaga Keisuke (Majin Boo)
For the main segments I'd like to see Suzuki Hirofumi, Tanaka Hironori, and/or Yamashita Hiroyuki as the animation supervisors (as well as doing key animation). Of course, this is all the epitome of a pipedream, so I really don't think that this would ever come about unless I suddenly became very, very rich.
As for what I expect to see? Maybe the occasional twenty minute special. Otherwise, I don't think we'll see Toei Animation do much with Dragon Ball for a while.

I still play BT3 on Wii, and I love it. I don't care about the gameplay, I just want the game to make me play it whenever I feel like, and still enjoy it. I play it for 3 years, that means something. Of course, I want more original things on the DB games, so that the franchise will get something new. But a part of the game I love is because it has a shitload of characters, I can create various teams, from the series or from my mind, and fight with them against other teams.dbboxkaifan wrote:They'd better work with the game itself than creating a shitload of characters that will play as a clone, basically the same characters with a different skin and different attacks.

Re: What do you hope/expect in the future of Dragon Ball?
Well Kai was a remake, so I don't count it as a 4th series (it would be like calling X-Men: Wolverine Origins, "X-Men 4"). I think fans are never going to be 100% happy even if Toriyama writes a new series. I won't mind watching a sequel to GT since I would like to see what happen before the 100 year skip or what happens with Goku Junior. GT did suck but that was 15 years ago and things have change. It shouldn't be hard to make a series better then GT.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:You mean a 5th series. DBKai is a different anime series, even if it's based on DBZ. I don't know if I would want a new series. Toei tried to do a sequel of the series (DBGT), fans didn't like it. They tried to do a remake/refresh series (DBKai), fans didn't like it again. If it's a new series, and it's not by Toriyama, I believe that most of the fans will not have high hopes for it, and again it will not be good in the eyes of the fans.Hellspawn28 wrote:I would want a 4th series since we can have more to talk about.

Even if X-Men Origins isn't X-Men 4, it is the 4th movie in the franchise. A remake is still a different product. If the Dragon Ball series were numbered (DBZ as DB2 & DBGT as DB3), Kai wouldn't be DB4, but it would still be the 4th anime.Hellspawn28 wrote:Well Kai was a remake, so I don't count it as a 4th series (it would be like calling X-Men: Wolverine Origins, "X-Men 4").

It's just because they keep rehashing old stuff that needs to be put to sleep already and let brand new content rise up, you know, Dragon Ball Heroes.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:I'm in for everything, the only thing that annoys me is that the fans will never be pleased.
DBZ just needs to die already, damn it.

That would just make everything mushed up. Just keep Saiyan and Freeza sagas as separate films for a overall complete 5 movie saga.

Re: What do you hope/expect in the future of Dragon Ball?
Hoping to see some form of Dragon Ball on Toonami if Toonami comes back.
I doubt this will happen, but it would be nice to also see a Mirai Gohan special. Kind of showing how he grew up in a world of terror.
Hoping maybe one day soon we'll see something like a new series. Maybe a new series continuing from Dragon Ball GT.
Me personally, I think Dragon Ball GT should be replaced if Toriyama decides to make a new series by any chance.

Well, I was keeping it too a trilogy obviously. Just figured I can name a lot of trilogies, but not a lot of quintilogies(?). And I think you can gloss over the training enough to make it work, but it's not like it matter, all if's and but's.Son Geeko wrote: Wait, are you saying you want to see the entire Saiyan AND Freeza sagas in one movie?

Obviously, more movies would be better for us fans, but I thought a trilogy would be easier for the public to handle

Oh, and Toonami coming back would just be brilliant.

Re: What do you hope/expect in the future of Dragon Ball?
I'm expecting more pandering SSJ3 Oolongesque nonsense and some more terrible OVAs that "are like poetry". Maybe a few more bad games. Worst case scenario is they jump straight to creating EU novels explaining riveting tales like how Bulma is really Freeza's grandaughter and how Gotenks actually invented Senzu Beans. Maybe Steve Vegetable Jones will make an appearance, he's the strongest Saiyan with all the powers of everyone and also Bulma dumped Vegeta and started dating him because of his handsome face and then they move into his mothers house together. (Don't worry it will only be 78th tier canon.)
I'm hoping this show will go back into a hiatus until they can actually think of something worth bringing it out again which at this point needs to be something pretty darn world shattering.

Re: What do you hope/expect in the future of Dragon Ball?
Honest to god?
1. My biggest hope would be for FUNImation to re-dub the Seasons 3-6 with cast at its
current level. I find the FUNI dub of Seasons 1-2....and 7-9 to be perfect. The rest basically ruins the entire series for me; making me watch Kai as the only alternative for an English dub or "Z" in its original Japanese (which I love). Even if they could find a way to produce an edited version of Kai with the Faulconer score as a replacement for Seasons 3-6 I'd be 100% on board.
2. I would LOVE for the Faulconer score to be added to the Saiyan saga. I don't understand why they don't do this. It seems that in every forum I've ever visited, this is what the majority of their North American fan base wants.

If they do end up making some GT flow up then I won't mind some special that deals with both Goku Junior and Vegeta Junior. It could be fun if it's done right.

It's interesting that TOEI has never done anything that remotely recognizes GT's existence after it went off the air. All of the specials are based in the "Z" timeline.Hellspawn28 wrote:If they do end up making some GT flow up then I won't mind some special that deals with both Goku Junior and Vegeta Junior. Yeah it's unlikely since GT had poor ratings and it never seem to be that popular in Japan. I guess Toei views GT as a failure and tends to ignore it. I think it would be cool if they remade DBZ Movie 1-13 with better animation and add scenes that where never in the original films.

Another hope: That they add the Faulconer score to Kai one day. I don't understand why FUNI is so anti Faulconer. I understand they have personal issues with the guy. However, it's a license to print money. The majority of their North American fan base adores his music and view it as a key factor in Dragon Ball's NA popularity.

The new Blu-rays DID have the Faulconer Productions score as an option. If the 1999-era dub fans truly want their older voices and their older music, they had their chance. They didn't buy it. The end.

Re: What do you hope/expect in the future of Dragon Ball?
I sure hope that doesn't happen at all, because it'd split up the fans even more and FUNimation wouldn't even bother giving the scenes any space for silent moments (dialogue only).Aoi wrote:Another hope: That they add the Faulconer score to Kai one day. FUNimation only knows best to sub, dub, and release the series/films on Blu-ray or DVD. Video and music are better left for the professionals (the country of origin).
^ Hell, even Kai's original music placements are flawed, so chances of a flawed FP placements would be pretty high.
By the way, if the fans truly loved their US replacement music they could've bought a copy of Dragon Ball Z Level 1.1 and 1.2 but didn't happen, neither.

Re: What do you hope/expect in the future of Dragon Ball?
It seems to me that one of the most common mainstream complains about Kai was actually that the music wasn't Faulconer. Maybe I just happened to bump into those types of reviews/comments in a row to form that impression. I myself liked Yamamoto's score. However, I do enjoy Faulconer.

To be fair, the Faulconer score doesn't start until episode 68, so they could have been just waiting for that. 1-68 is Nathan Johnson, which most aren't exactly crazy over.dbboxkaifan wrote:By the way, if the fans truly loved their US replacement music they could've bought a copy of Dragon Ball Z Level 1.1 and 1.2 but didn't happen, neither.

Hoping:
-For Dimps to return and revamp the Budokai series.
-New specials, OVA's and/or possibly a movie 14 (Why not).
-More Dragon Boxes (DB, movies, and GT) and for the Z ones to come back in print.
-A new manga/anime that starts off fresh, maybe in DBO times or something, that offers some new elements to the franchise but still references the rest of the franchise.
-Uncut English Kazenban by Viz.
Expecting:
-Spike to release more crap games.
-Maybe a dead period for the franchise. (hope not)
-Also I'll put my Dragon Box post in here since its likely, with the exception of Z coming into print again.
