New movie or series not planned?

Post by Silvor » Fri Jan 13, 2006 4:07 pm

I was just wondering if anybody know if there is any particular reason no new movie or series are being made? I mean it looks as if Dragon ball is as popular in Japan as ever and it vould be kinda odd if they didn't want to take oppurtunity of this. I'm sure a new movie or series vould get enourmous ratings awell. And ofcourse I know that the manga is over and there's no more story. But has anybdoy involved ever stated anything on a new movie/ series or reasons for there not being any?

Toriyama wanted to end his manga right after the Buu fight and leave it ended there. Toei squeezed every drop of Dragon Ball they had with GT.

It was a bomb.

Because of it, they ended it at 64 episodes rather than trying to advance further. With the manga having TWO endings now and the anime officially having THE END appear at the end of GT while the narrator announces that it's the end of their story, there's really no way they can advance it further.

Well, the last episode in GT is named "good bye Goku, Until the day we meet again" And that vould indicate that one day he'd return. ( I know he returns as a "ghost")
And in a recent interview with Masako Nozawa she stated that the entire cast of dragon ball vould very much like to take part in a new production.
But that the ball now lies with Akira Toriyama. Seems a shame not to take the oppurtonity when it's so popular and atleast give it all and make one last movie.
But time goes by and she's already 70 years old now so perhaps they should hurry up and do something. Is Akira Toriyama really so extremely tired of Dragon Ball that he won't allow/help make one last movie?

And who cares of it isn't based of the original manga, i'm so tired of anybody denying that anything not in the manga just didn't happen. I happened to enjoy the whole original dragon ball anime even more than the books because of the expanded story. Only about halfway done with dbz yet but so far so good (so please no spoilers).
And sorry for the huge post :)

A continuation would suck horribly. SSJ4 Gogeta is already the ultimate powerhouse, making a villain appear out of no where being stronger then him would just be stupid. If they were to do anything, they should make a movie set in the past. Like, just have Goku, Vegeta, Gohan and future Trunks in a movie around the Cell saga time, like they did with thr Broly movie.

What about a Future Trunks series? Like what happened with him after he went back? Fighting villains in his time, it might be nice.
Vegito: What do you call a Goku & a Vegeta? Gogeta sounds nice.

Actually yeah, that's the best possibility. Future Trunks is still only SSJ1, so he's not completely overpowered. There's tons of stuff they could do with that.

Yeah, perhaps they could bring Broly into it & acctually make Broly slow so Trunks goes USSJ & now even with a speed loss they are equal in speed, perhaps that would work.

Maybe they could make a Goten and Trunks series.
Even I became a loser when I made one of these...

If it's the same one I read, the said interview was on location on the last day of recording for Dragonball GT.

I am not sure how old it is, but I read it a lot of years ago...
I'd like to think it's about 10 years old.

Maybe they could make a Goten and Trunks series.
 I'd rather watch paint dry. As if the Goten and Trunks movies weren't shitty enough...

I'm very happy that Toei hasn't tried to milk out a new series, I'm happy with DB/Z/GT. :) Though I would like to see a 25th anniversary movie...
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

I am aware of a very old interview done when GT ended but this is not that one. Here's the link:
http://www.tkfd.or.jp/eng/division/publ ... ndex.shtml
It seems to have been posted on 2005.04.08.
Atleast to me the interview seemed new, she mentioned some things I don't recall hearing about before.

Yeah. I had thought so.

And that interview Silvor posted seemed newer than it was..
It has been over 12 years since “Dragonball” has ended. Do you still enjoy watching it?
Anyhow, Duo, is this interview the one you were talking about?

Ms. Nozawa is 69 years old! That's quite amazing with how she sounded in the Goku 'n Veggie promo for Budoukai 3. I hope my own voice is still as healthy when I'm that old.
On hiatus.

Just by reading that interview you can really picture the atmosphere in the recording studios, I think this is why DB was so big in Japan. Because the voice actors actually enjoyed recording. The impact of playing these characters has left a feeling inside each of them that they actually are that character, something I highly doubt is felt by the dubs VA's.

That's probably why in scenes where a character must laugh, they probably actually ask one of the other VA's to make them laugh in reality and they'll make that laugh in the characters voice so it sounds believable, the dub is more of a 'let's get this scene out of the way' thing. The fact that she actually spoke as Goku to a boy in a coma make you actually believe that Goku is out there somewhere, alright, as if...but for little kids in Japan (at the time) Goku must have been like Father Christmas or someone.

I'm also happy fans liked the robot episode, I actually liked this episode and it ranks as a favourite, goes to show if you try to pull something off properly you will succeed. I actually watched this episode in dub format the other week, and the voice is exactly how I pictured it would be, the standard robot style voice all cartoon's have in the US or US, the crappy uun-human voice they gave No.16 in the dub. The robot's voice in the original is much more deeper and actually would make me a bit shaky if I was 8 years old.

Anyway, enough robot talk...

I don't think another proper series will be ever made, because the DB story was finished long ago, and the only thing left to do is respect it for what it is, GT is the outcome of what another series will probably result in if created, I'd rather they made Neko Majin Z as a short anime released on DVD, that would be something worth purchasing, another movie or special wouldn't go a miss, although they are probably stuck for ideas, which is why almost every other movie is based on something that happened in the anime with similar styles of scenes and not to mention enemies.
