So everyone's seen DBZ Kai, was it worth it for you?

Because of Kai, my partner is now willing Dragon Ball Z, and actually finds it exciting , dramatic and interesting. Do, it is definitely worth it. Admittedly he will never watch the original DBZ from start to finish but oh well.
... Maybe later.

DBKai was great, IMO. It's faster than DBZ, it has more action in the fights, it had an awesome BGM, it takes away about 95% of filler, it's in HD, and it's a great way to see the series when you want to finish it quickly.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Personally, yeah, Kai was worth it. Do I feel like it was worth what it should have been? Not at all.
As far as I'm concerned, Kai's Japanese version is mostly a fun sideshow type thing to the original Z. For parts like Namek, Freeza, etc., then I really prefer Kai, even with the lesser acting and recasts. But like most people, Kai's main attraction was the dub. I finally have a version of the show (as much of the show as it was, anyway) that I can genuinely enjoy in English, and one that I can really show people without a slight feeling of silliness, aside from what's supposed to be silly.
Kai was not what I thought it would be. And I think everyone can relate to that. Kai was a messy product overall, with a number of redeeming qualities, but at the same time, it was a product I had sought after for the longest time. Had it been less lazy and actually ended, I could almost call it a definitive version of the Z era.
But those redeeming qualities are what made it worth it to me: the amazing dub, the fresh score, the great pacing, the (albeit false) sense it was something new.

It was definitely worth it for me, for the sole fact that Kai was how I got really into the series!
So mondo lame.

For years people wanted Z with little to no filler with a faithful English dub, we finally got it, it was worth it.

Kai was not worth it to me. When I first heard about it, I was like, "Oh my gosh, are they gonna re-animate it truer to the manga!?" and was pretty disappointed when my friend sharing the info with me shot that down. I'm sure a lot of other people felt that way too.
I tried to sit and watch a few episodes but I just wasn't feeling it. I felt like Toei was just making a money grab because they know how beloved the show is... "Well if we just re-cut it and present it as something new, we'll make easy cash!" and I feel like they didn't put all that they could into the series because of that mindset.
I must admit, I haven't heard the new English dub. So that MIGHT up my opinion of Kai when I get around to it. LOL
