So I'm guessing that Funimation won't ever put up for a second run? What a damn shame, these should have been the standard for DBZ and not the bricks. Do you think there are any petitions out there that might put the DBoxes in print again?

I'm sure we could start one, although online petitions rarely accomplish much.

Its worth a try, eh?

I was reading this thread and I'm not alone, It seems a lot more people have incomplete collections than I thought.

Me comes in second 8) I will gor for that online petition. I do want complete DBox, but I'm not insane to buy DVD set for 250$. The highest price I ever paid on an anime series was 100 dollars and that was complete one albeit much shorter than Dragon Ball.

Before they were suspended, I suppose the new DBZ Blu-rays were supposed to be the non-DBox replacement for the Orange Bricks. Of course, we know how that's turned out so far. Maybe eventually those will come back.

In the meantime, it would've been cool if they made new "Season Sets" (maybe yellow ones?) that are packaged similar to the current Bricks and contain the DBox footage in the same sense that the DBox footage got single releases in Japan. I doubt that's ever going to happen, though.

The only thing we can do when it comes to a replacement for the Orange Bricks is to wait it out for when FUNi finally decides on a better way to release the Blu-ray version without sacrificing quality.

Yeah. At the very least, if there's some contractual hindrance preventing a re-release of the Dragon Box footage, they should just re-transfer their raw footage onto new DVDs with all 3 audio tracks and release it as a budget release so that we can have a long-term, complete 4x3 release in print.

I doubt they would even be allowed to do that if they had so much trouble acquiring the Dragon Box masters.

That's because the Dragon Boxes were remastered, and released in Japan by Toei, and I seem to recall that they worry extensively about reverse importation, so it's possible that the limited edition run was a stipulation brought about by Toei, though it's only speculation.

I'm just saying that if that's the case, then it surely wouldn't cost much to straight-up transfer the film they have onto new DVDs, and include all audio options to satisfy all of the fans, and please people wanting a complete 4x3 release with the replacement score.

Yeah, psh. That's what they probably need to do, especially for people who don't want the Orange Bricks?
Just say screw it and toss their original 4:3 masters on DVD...
But really? Didn't Spain get the Dragon Box footage in sets similar to the Season Sets? I don't get it, FUNi needs to need to renegotiate for the DBox footage for a budget release or at least a reprint of the original sets.

It'd still be an improvement.

Of course I'd like a Dragon Box re-release, but I'm only saying that if that's not possible for whatever reason, at least we should get another complete 4x3 DVD release that would be intended to replace the orange bricks.

The Spanish Dragon Boxes Z were remastered and not their actual original quality as it was on the authentic Japanese Dragon Boxes Z, but they're definitely far superior to the Orange Bricks or any other FUNimation release (Singles, UUE, OB).

For FUNimation, the sales of the OBs are still doing great (I think) so it's rather pointless because not everyone cares about the video/audio quality they have, but instead, just see/own them.

It's not pointless if there's enough demand for the Dragon Boxes that 1-4 still have absurd collector's value.

I'm pretty certain that FUNimation would rather either cash in on, or find some way to subvert, that perceived "collector's value" and maybe profit from it then let it sit for fans and "collection investors" to have. They should do a reprint edition of the DBoxes, at least in some manner. Perhaps a DBox S.A.V.E. or Viridian Edition? This is especially considering that they're considering doing other DBoxes at all.

Hey ya'll I used to come on here all of the time but my password changed with the site and now I'm starting fresh. Anyway...found a pretty sweet auction up on eBay...the seller seems to be open to any/all offers for anyone who still needs to pick up the DragonBoxes.

I actually just got almost this same deal for half the price from someone on this forum.

Buying it as single products probably comes cheaper than from this auction.

I'd like to own the steelbooks but only for the design they have because as for the quality, I'd refuse to watch it.

Well Dragon-box 3 is not listed on Walmart.com anymore :( I hope you guys that needed it, got it. I got mine a while back ago and I'm glad because it is my favorite saga. I checked Ebay and it's back at 80 to 100 bucks.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Just out of curiosity, and my apologies if this has already been asked, but is it possible that FUNimation was just losing money on the Dragon Boxes? I mean, the SRP of those boxes was around $60, but I don't think I ever paid more than $30 for any one of them thanks to sites like Amazon. It had to be expensive to get the rights to the DBox footage from Toei and additionally to produce the packaging for their DBox releases. Perhaps they were just bleeding money on those sets and that's what caused them to label them as limited releases?

I may be possibly wrong but it seems FUNimation wanted to keep as the original Japanese Dragon Boxes Z, a Limited Edition time product.

Just like Episode 98 Bonus of Dragon Ball Kai, it's also a home release exclusive.
