Goku and his time limit thing and SSJ3
I recently watched the episodes where Goku was allowed to come back from the dead for 1 day and then fought Buu as SSJ3.
And now the whole thing about SSJ3 using up his 1 day life energy issue:
He turned SSJ3 to fight Buu but because it is such a drainer it used up all his time on Earth.
But what I don't get is why did he have to obey this rule when Buu was such a big threat?
The Kai's knew it and so did everyone else.
Why couldn't he just refuse to go back to otherworld untill Buu was dealt with?
King Yemma should of realised aswell.
If he stayed longer and told Baba to go away and that this is more important what would of happened?

Wasn't Goku also exhausted after going SSJ3 the first time (shown to us) and not even Dende could heal him? Goku said he had to return to Other World recover his energy. If he tried to stay longer, if it came to it, he wouldn't be fit to fight as he would still be really exhausted and get defeated easily IMO.

Theory I subscribe to: It's less about rules imposed by the gods, and more about the physical incapability of 'spirits with bodies' to exist in the lower realm. Dead people who are given a body in the afterlife are physically unable to stay in the living realm for too long, their "dead" bodies are only able to sustain themselves for about a day (hence the time limit). Using SSj3 drained the necessary energy Goku needed to keep his body whole while in the lower realm, thus reducing his time.
Makes sense when you notice how exhausted Goku got afterward using it (even while dead).

I don't think anybody had the power to let Goku stay on Earth without dying, again. It's probably the kind of thing that not even the "Gods" could fix.

I believe that if someone stays on the Living World for more than 24 hours (without SSJ3), he would die again, and get erased. It explains why there is the 24 hours limit, and only once in his whole dead life (apart from the fact that the dead should not interfere in the Living World), and why Goku was exhausted and lost time.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Like others have said, Goku was in such bad shape after using Super Saiyan 3 that Piccolo told him to let Dende heal him, but Goku said he could only recover by returning to the afterlife. If he'd stayed on Earth, I got the feeling something bad would have happened to him.

I think that, if Gokuu stayed in the living realm too long, he could pass out from exhaustion, go comatose, and/or even cease to exist from the universe altogether, both from the living realm and the afterlife (essentially, like dying when you’re already dead). That's something beyond even the gods' control.
