Would you watch if Kai home releases still had Yamamoto?
Would you watch Kai more often with Yamamoto's Kai soundtrack instead?
Even if they did, I'd still likely just play it once and pack it up to never touch it again. So, brand new but unsealed in my case.

What do you mean "see" them? You mean watch them? I definitely prefer Yamamoto in Kai, though I'd probably watch it just as much either way. If I had all of Kai, I'd watch through it at least once a year.

If Dragon Ball Z Kai home releases had Yamamoto I would watch it all the time.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

I also noticed I've been watching episodes 1-52 more often than the rest because of Yamamoto's music. I seriously wish this music scandal never happened.

I wish Toei would take the hint and just restore the Yamamoto score to Kai already, and all they would need to do is simply replace the infringing Yamamoto tracks with non-infringing Yamamoto tracks and presto problem solved (removing and replacing an entire score over 2 plagerized songs is stupid), Toei should also release OST IV so people can complete their collection of Kai music.Codarik wrote:I also noticed I've been watching episodes 1-52 more often than the rest because of Yamamoto's music. Yeah, the music scandal ruined Kai for me. The horrible placement is just too much for me. I can't take Kai seriously with that music.
The problem is that Toei does not know which tracks are infringing and which are not, except for obvious ones such as Battle Point Unlimited.superrayman3 wrote:I wish Toei would take the hint and just restore the Yamamoto score to Kai already, and all they would need to do is simply replace the infringing Yamamoto tracks with non-infringing Yamamoto tracks and presto problem solved (removing and replacing an entire score over 2 plagerized songs is stupid), Toei should also release OST IV so people can complete their collection of Kai music.
So mondo lame.
Re: If Dragon Ball Kai home releases had Yamamoto would you
Most of the tracks I don't mind. If there was more variety, then I'm sure it'd be great and I myself would love to own those.
Re: If Dragon Ball Kai home releases had Yamamoto would you
I very well might have eventually bought Dragon Ball Kai if the series was released unedited, but after the music scandal I really don't see any reason to.

Well it is safe to say that "The Ebb and the Flow" and "A New Foe Rears His Head" are infringing works which makes two, now if you want to add Yushi no Gaisen to the mix (since some people actually believe that it ripped off the Germany theme from the NES game Captain Tsubasa) that would make three, but other than those the rest seem to be non-infringing works at least to the best of my knowlege, so if Toei would remove the obvious offenders (maybe exclude Yushi no Gaisen from the removal list since that one is a debatable track) everything should be good.GotenDaisuki wrote:The problem is that Toei does not know which tracks are infringing and which are not, except for obvious ones such as Battle Point Unlimited.

The problem is that Toei can't trust Yamamoto. Who's to say he didn't rip off more obscure music? In their case it's better to just get rid of it all rather than risk legal headaches.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Re: Would you watch if Kai home releases still had Yamamoto?
As we've stated time and time again:
Nothing in the score can be trusted. The entire thing had to go.
Just because one piece of music in Kai is almost certainly suspect due to it being removed in the middle of the Yamamoto->Edited!Yamamoto->Kikuchi score shift ("The Ebb and the Flow"), that doesn't mean that Toei / other rights holders have any concrete clue as to the extent of which pieces were "plagiarized", and it's also likely that Yamamoto himself would never be able to document them even if coerced into doing so.Kenji Yamamoto Retrospective wrote:What else could there be? Something we have stated on many occasions is that there are likely many more examples of this “compositional plagiarism” that have gone unrecognized because the right types of music fans are not necessarily also fans of the various series that Yamamoto has worked on.
Nothing in the score can be trusted. The entire thing had to go.

I don't know why everyone makes such a big hassle over the Kikuchi placement. I thought it was fine most of the time.

It's fine and I like it a lot but the replacement has very little variety of BGMs and you tend to hear the same BGMs run over too much.penguintruth wrote:I don't know why everyone makes such a big hassle over the Kikuchi placement. I thought it was fine most of the time.

Listen to the BGM that plays at 00:35 & 4:34 they're the same, they are fitting but used far too much on just one episode, Dragon Ball Kai should of been treated more kindly even after being canned Toei Animation must've kept the music flowing well and not repetitive.

Re: Would you watch if Kai home releases still had Yamamoto?
I think that perhaps a lot of it has to do with the fact that we have "Dragon Ball Z" to compare it to. Since we've already seen how the Kikuchi score was placed in DBZ, that's what sounds "right" to us. To hear different music tracks in places we didn't before sounds "wrong" to us. That's just my theory, though. It would be interesting for me to know what I would think of the Kikuchi-Kai music mix if I didn't have the Kikuchi-DBZ music mix to compare it to.penguintruth wrote:I don't know why everyone makes such a big hassle over the Kikuchi placement. To answer the original poster's question though, I like Kai either way, so I still watch it despite the music change...but oh what I would give to have a complete uncut home release with the Yamamoto score intact. A few days ago, somebody posted scenes of the edited Nicktoons dub back when it was still using Yamamoto's mix, and it--for me, anyway--was a painful reminder of how much better Yamamoto's music was for Kai.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: Would you watch if Kai home releases still had Yamamoto?
How far exactly did they get to use Yamamoto anyway is what I want to know.
I've heard as far as the Vegeta vs 19 fight so how much further did they use it?

Re: Would you watch if Kai home releases still had Yamamoto?
In the original Japanese broadcast of Kai Yamamoto's score made it all the way to episode 95, on the initial nicktoons airing the show the score got to episode 63, and on the U.S. Kai DVD/Blu-ray home releases the Yamamoto score made it as far as episode 52.Gonstead wrote:How far exactly did they get to use Yamamoto anyway is what I want to know.

I'll let someone else say how far the Yamamoto score got on the Japanese home releases since I don't know about those.

And I'll admit I worded my post slightly wrong. I was meant to say how far did they show Yamamoto for the dub on Nicktoons.
Thanks anyway

Re: Would you watch if Kai home releases still had Yamamoto?
Absolutely. With the upcoming rerelease of Season One with the Kikuchi score, I made sure to order the original release from last year, then checked the SKU on the back to make absolutely sure I got the original score. Right now, I'm saving up for Parts Three and Four, but goddamn it those have gotten expensive. I hope I can still find them by the time I have the cash. Although, time has taught me that even rare items are usually for sale on a constant basis when it comes to the Internet.
