Lisa Ortiz, Eric Stuart, Veronica Taylor and Crispin Freeman came back to reprise their roles and even got Dan Green as Wizer. They did in a New York studio and likely sent the audio to FUNi in Texas.
That's a little different though. Slayers had pretty much always been a New York voice actor thing, with voices from Central Park Media, and the series would have been pretty much set in stone for people that those are the voices for Lina, Gourry, Amelia and Zel. (Some recasts aside, ahem-hem, Daniel Cronin for Zel and Joani Baker for Amelia.) The only time there's even been some changes has been with stuff like the ADV group's dubs of the other Slayers material, the OVAs and the movies. And even, they actually got in contact with Lisa Ortiz and wanted her to come do Lina for them. However, she had some other things taking up her schedule and couldn't make it, so they recast Lina, with Cynthia Martinez for those. (Not that I'm complaining, Cynthia made a good Lina too.) And they still managed at least to get Crispin Freeman back for Zel in Premium.

Chances are that the other actors just had things tying them up. I can imagine that Veronica Taylor and Eric Stuart were really getting tied up with works like Pockemon, that it was hard to come out for the small amount of work that was the 30 minute movie, Premium. I would have appreciated hearing them again there, but Chris Patton and Luci Christian are great actors and filled the roles well too. In regards to Revolution and Evolution-R, it was in New York (so easier to record, and they just needed to send audio over), and also it's a bit more substantial than a 30 minute movie. There are costs to think of too, after all, and also pay.

Buuuuuuuuut, I'm sidetracking somewhat.

Actually, they don't have to be physically located at the studio. Colombe Demers recorded her lines as Daemon during the ReBoot movie "Daemon Rising" via a phone patch from Toronto. Obviously, such was a far different form of recording (pre-lay as opposed to ADR) but it just proves if the talent is unable to be there physically, they can still be used.

So... yeah, in terms of ADR, I would have to agree that an actual presence in the recording studio would be required, thus favouring local talent.

Nailed it, OutlawTorn. Phone patches aren't practical for dubbing.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:

I'm sorry for bringing up this but I wonder if any voice actors from My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic participate in the dub.

What? They are quite talented and..... stuff!

I think Scott McNeil was mentioned being in the show?

Yeah. Let's leave it at that so nothing bad comes of this.

Though I think Spike's VA was in the dub for Mobile Suit Gundam as one of the Orphans on White Base.

That's why I said I was sorry. I really shouldnt have brought it up.

I think there are lots of talented actors in Canada and I heard the Death Note dub was quite good. I wonder if this dub will surpass Funi's dub....

Nah!

A fan-dub is capable of surpassing FUNimation's Kai dub, so certainly Ocean Group can do it too.

Heck, Ocean Group's episodes 001-053 DBZ, DBZ Films 1-3 are the best of DBZ dubbed in English.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

I agree. I would also love to see him direct Pauline Newstone as Freeza, her voice seemed like it had a lot of potential but because of the direction and scripts she was given it made Freeza seem kinda generic.

Well, not so obvious since he talked about Kai, but I guess you're right about your assumption.

The problem is that we don't know who will be directing.

Bigger than that, I'm afraid--we don't know who's in charge, period. We've been calling it the "Ocean dub" simply because it's easier to say in casual conversation than, "the alternative English dub." In reality, Ocean may not have anything to do with this. After all, Kirby Morrow said that a different company is handling it.
