Maybe they just don't want anything to go wrong and once's released all episodes will be available to air or sell.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I dunno, maybe they knew it would either:

Duke Nukem Forever took several years but it finally got made and published, erm.. Not the best example, really. Haven't even completed the game myself.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
The only dubs that we know a good deal about are the Ocean dub and the FUNimation dub. The Westwood dub (or "post-Saban Ocean dub") is still shrouded in mystery. We don't really know who was in charge, the degree to which they cooperated with FUNimation (if at all), who directed it, why the music was changed...so much is unknown about the Westwood dub. I mean, sure, I've heard fans come forward online providing explanations and saying they know certain things, but then they never provide a source.
I will say this though, I think the mystery over the behind-the-scenes situation has proved to be one of the most alluring things about the Westwood dub for fans online, and that seems to be continuing with the upcoming Ocean dub of Kai--after all, this thread is 65 pages long, and we still haven't heard so much as a preview clip.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

How about Atomic Cartoons. I heard they are doing Atomic Betty: Redux guys. IMO, I think the guy who voices Maximus IQ can play Ginyu. Can anyone name the voices for Atomic Betty to name a few? I know Johnny Test's VAs but Maryke Hendrikse is doing good as Susan. IMHO, I think she is a better fit playing Gohan. Let the selected Ocean actors reprise their roles while the rest of Atomic Cartoons VAs do the Kai dub.

I kind hope they do a version of Kai, If they put out dvds I would buy them. I like Ocean. Funi is still the way to go IMO but I would love to have a full Ocean set.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Assuming that this is coming, imagine for a moment that the music will be changed. With Kai's score going from an original score that turned out to have stolen material to a badly re-arranged Kikuchi score, would you have a problem with the music being something completely new and original for Ocean Kai?
For those who would rather have the Kikuchi score, would you still be able to put up with a new score if it was actually good and not overbearing?

I wouldn't mind a new score at all unless it never stops playing. Most likely it probably will end up being a constant playing music score just like the Westwood dub.kei17 wrote:I wouldn't mind a new score at all unless it never stops playing. In that case, I would prefer the replacement Kikuchi score, but I'd still like it as I'm a dub collector who likes seeing dubs with censorship and unnecessary changes.Gonstead wrote:Most likely it probably will end up being a constant playing music score just like the Westwood dub.kei17 wrote:I wouldn't mind a new score at all unless it never stops playing. ^ No, nonstop music on series/film just isn't my thing so this alone would turn me off from watching it, despite if it were a fantastic dub or not.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
DB/DBZ had bad intros but DBGT had a waste of a 60-second opening. I assume they will keep Dragon Soul and YBCB / Kokoro no Hane as their openings and endings with a different singer otherwise they don't want to suffer the same fate getting a different intro and ending for Kai just like what happen to the AB-Westwood DB Opening.Gonstead wrote:Most likely it probably will end up being a constant playing music score just like the Westwood dub.kei17 wrote:I wouldn't mind a new score at all unless it never stops playing. Face it the Canadian DBZ opening (via RTD footage) should've got the Kageyama English version of CHA LA HEAD CHA LA and WE GOTTA POWER as their intros. In my case those are the true intros that they should've done.

First, I don't feel like Kikuchi's score was that badly arranged for Kai.Kendamu wrote:Assuming that this is coming, imagine for a moment that the music will be changed. Second, it's not the place of a second-hand company (that is to say, any company that handles the show that isn't Toei) to add things like music. Their responsibility is to provide an English version of the Japanese show, music and all. They should have no say in the creative process, because that's already been handled by Toei.
I'm not interested in dub makers' "creativity". It's unwelcomed.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Unless, for me, they're skilled in Wooleyisms. You know, not rewriting the whole damn script for zero reason but writing the English script to fit the lip flap, sound natural in English and give the VAs good material to work with while making sure the tone and atmosphere from the original is wholly retained. Kai's dub often does this well and many of FUNi's dubs do too. They just know where to draw the lines. Honestly, I feel that some here have been so traumatize by the old DBZ dubs that we fly off the handle at any small "change" in Kai's dub from the original. I rather like to view dubs more as adaptations and the much more faithful they are to the source material, the far better they are.penguintruth wrote:I'm not interested in dub makers' "creativity". An opposite but neat example from the late (but great) ADV Films would be Ghost Stories where it did poorly in Japan and the original staff told the dubbers to "do whatever the hell they wanted" as they could care less. ADV had the series Gag Dubbed by adding humor while retaining the original storyline. And quite frankly, it turned out great and I love it, even more with the knowledge that the original producers approved of it.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
You're right. "Badly arranged" was probably a bad way of putting it. I think I'm more put off by the fact that pretty much every piece of DBZ music I really like isn't used in Kai at all. That's probably my major beef with it.penguintruth wrote:First, I don't feel like Kikuchi's score was that badly arranged for Kai.Kendamu wrote:Assuming that this is coming, imagine for a moment that the music will be changed. Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I also think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we've already heard the Kikuchi score utilized once before (through DBZ). So in our minds, we've come to associate certain musical selections with certain story events, so using them in a place where they didn't exist previously feels "wrong" to us. I'd be really curious to know what I'd think of the Kikuchi-Kai mix if I didn't have the Kikuchi-DBZ mix to compare it to.Kendamu wrote:You're right. The problem is this, as these BGMs are the most constantly being played throughout all episodes. It just ruins the whole awesomeness of the original DBZ soundtrack in Kai.TheBlackPaladin wrote:I also think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we've already heard the Kikuchi score utilized once before (through DBZ).
Stereo or not, I would have preferred to have Majin Boo and DBZ Films' BGMs in Kai too.

There are Movie scores playing as well on Kai. Can anybody give the list of music that is playing on Kai reused from the Dragon Ball anime and movies that ran from 1986/02/26 to 1989/04/19 in their timespan?

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
To me it depends on which saga we're talking about. The Saiyan and Android arcs (during original "Z") have many stand out musical moments in my mind so Kai's replacement of them (with Kikuchi) feels very wrong. However, the Namek arc barely has any real special musical moments. I can think of only 2 off the top of my head that I loved
#1- Goku about to land on Namek. He's bathing and finally dresses up, looks out the window and thinks about what's to come. I love how they used the "training" score from the original Dragon Ball.
#2- Vegeta powering up vs. Recoome. Just perfect placement of that piece of music.
The rest is very generic to me. Not memorable at all, so Kai's replacement score hasn't bothered me much. I don't like them introducing certain key Cell arc pieces during the Freeza fight but it's still over all more enjoyable than the original production.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
BTW, I still haven't heard the replacement Kikuchi score in the new releases. However, as I've stated many times, to me the only arc Kai needed to actually "fix" was the Namek arc (where the filler isn't just boring, it actually contradicts character/story development).
Either way,
1. Kai Namek arc (w/ Yamamoto) (8.5/10) >>>> Original production of Namek arc (6.5/10 at best. 2/10 during parts of the Freeza fight.)
I'm sure the replacement score will be good enough. In fact, Kai could have just done the Freeza arc and I would have been 100% satisfied. It's really a blessing to us fans that it exists. I remember thinking of a "Director's cut" even when I was a kid.
