English Dragon Ball Songs

Post by Nikkolas » Mon May 07, 2012 9:45 pm

I was just wondering what people here thought of the translated "Makafushigi Adventure " and "I'll Give You Romance"?

Opening
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddqKLZrswDo

Ending
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NizJjNklK9Q

I'm not too sure about the ending but then again I don't much care for the song in the original Japanese either.

Makafushigi Adventure is of course the single best piece of music in all of DB history and I think the English version is very nice.

Personally I hate the English version "Makafushigi Adventure!".
The vocals are awful and I can't understand a word they say!

As for "Romantikku Ageru Yo", I think the English version was okay.

In general, I hate when they replace the original instrumental track from the songs. I think they would sound much better alongside the Japanese instrumental track, like this.
So mondo lame.

^ I agree, the English DB OP is sucky but English DB ED's flows so well and lovely, there's simply no way in hell I could hate on a beautiful cover like this one.

I actually really like the English DB opening and ending. And I don't really mind when they replace the instrumentals. Sometimes the new ones can be really nice. I don't know if I think it's better than the original instrumental, but they're both good.

I always found them very good adaptions. One of the few actually worthwhile things Funi produced for Dragonball.

I liked them very much.

They're updated but still carry the charm of the original is what I think. Apart from also being Dragon Ball, they are what made the show memorable for me since I tended to sing the OP to myself even years after I first heard it.

Their great but the lyrics for the opening are kinda generic. I would prefer a translation closer to the original. Something like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk5n-SM3BOQ

Those lyrics are somewhat off as well. I know those are the lyrics that Hiroki Takahashi used for his English version; but, eh.

As for the actual topic, I love hearing dubs of songs. DBZ is the odd one out at this point, DB, GT, and Kai all got dubbed themes.

Did FUNimation ever dub the Tenkaichi Budokai and Red Ribbon Army themes?

FUNimation didn't dub any of the insert songs--in fact, nearly all of them were left out of the dub altogether and replaced with narration. The only exception I can think of is "Moeru Heart De," which still has narration over it but at least it plays in the background.

Those lyrics are somewhat off as well.
But they still not as generic as the Funimation lyrics.

I suppose Funimation's lyrics are more easy to learn and therefore more easy to sing along to etc.

There's already two Hironobu Kageyama songs sung in English typically CHA-LA-HEAD-CHA-LA and WE GOTTA POWER. IDK if he sung Boku-tachi wa tenshi datta.

It exists.

But you need English subs because his Engrish songs head different ways.

Anyone have a YT Link? I can't wait to hear that. At least on my part, FUNimation should've used the English Kageyama songs in the first place. If they were to redub the 1989 Z with Kai cast, they should used the English versions of what he sing.

My two cents.

There's two or three really good English versions so why would they use some broken Engrish singer that can't pronounce the words correctly in English? It'd just be ridiculously bad for an official home release.

Kageyama in Burst Limit:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Fd49G86v9U

"Eberyping going rite in my ass turdey"
"Its only cause your black never cry"
"Your ass make me think about the world"
"Many nites be killa"
"Its only for di ass"

Listen closely to the words he says, it's not that I'm thinking about the word "ass" but it's the way he pronounces it.

I sincerely hope Kageyama just sticks to Japanese because this is absurd and atrocious.

Actually, if i remember correctly, and that is a big IF, the Red Ribbon song, one of the appearances of Mezase Tenkaichi and some other were kept as instrumentals. I believe all the info was up on Kanzentai, but i did not find it on Kanzenshuu...
