I didn't think that was remotely possible! I should reward myself with a 3 Musketeers bar!

P.S. Son Geeko, you're right on the money!

No it was clear what you meant. But that last bit didn't make a lick of sense on its own. Seems like vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity to me. IDK.
But I'm looking forward to more Dragon Boxes. I still don't care much about the Blu-Ray re-release of DBZ. But the Anncast segment lead me to believe they really will do it later. I remember a trailer of the sets having clips all the way up to Trunks. We don't know how much they completed but if they didn't just do that clip for the trailer it has to be a hefty chunk.

Regardless of what they decide, they will probably have to decide fast. The DVD era is quickly winding down and those 480p Dragon Boxes are going to look more and more archaic as time passes.

I'm not so sure its shrinking as fast as you are inferring.
What's taking so long is the cost/benefit analysis, or so they said on Anncast. They said the packaging is expensive. I would rather have Dragon Ball in a flimsy cardboard case than nothing at all.

DVDs are still going strong but they will fade away. Blurays are more durable, resistant, space effective (since an entire series would need much less space and discs) and offer the possibility of a very significant upgrade in video and audio quality, not to mention the fact that upgrading to a Bluray player will still allow the consumer to enjoy his pre-existing DVDs since it also reads DVDs (so there is no downside).
Blurays are slowly gaining on the DVDs as they become cheaper and more mainstream.
Funimation will have to release the series in Bluray sooner or later and I hope they continue the release they were doing since it had awesome quality.

First you guys say you have no
clue what I'm talking about and then you say that it was clear what I meant only that the last bit didn't make a lick of sense. So which is it? Do you guys know what I'm talking about or not?

The reviewers of such packages would never stop bitching on the boards about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up putting the Orange Bricks on Blu-ray from Level 2.1, Level 2.2, Level 3.1 and so on.

Not if you want it in 1080p at a decent bitrate, it won't. The Level Sets are Dual-Layered 50 GBs (last I checked) with 8/9 Episodes a pop as it is, and they're only running at 25 MBps or so, about half of Blu-Ray's max bitrate.

I really hope that they don't. I would even prefer a raw scan without any of the damage cleaned up to that.

That is a compromise between space and quality. In that case we might not gain more episodes per disk but the quality per disk will increase very significantly.

Rereboy, LOL!
If you want a crapload of episodes per Blu-ray Disc the bootleggers have you covered, but as for quality, meh, don't expect to be any good.

Same. I'm at least gonna
try to wait until the end of the year for an announcement. Though, I don't know if I can wait that long, I know I'm gonna get the urge to watch all my Dragon Boxes again before the years up...( I want to watch the Dragon Ball anime first, before my next run through Z. )
Patience...Patience...

Might buy them..but it's not Z so reselling them might be harder...if the Dragon boxes come out.

Pretty much this. although I am just going to ride this out. I'm hoping for the original Dragonball Dragon-boxes as well.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128
Still recording Toonami broadcasts on VHS after all these years!

To be fair, the Blu-rays have nine episodes on the first disc of each set, whilst the American Dragon Boxes have seven each, so even if it is minor, it's a little more.

Oh certainly, but it's not enough to be a selling point.

One of these days (Namely when I get a computer with a Blu-Ray drive, which won't be soon at all) I want to test how much good quality SD content you can actually get on a Blu-Ray. That's where the size of the disc is a big deal. Does anyone know the recommended running time figures on Blus and if the content being lower res affects it?

16mm sourced material does not really need the max bitrate for a very high-quality presentation on BD. Half of that (20mbps) average is probably fine with quality compression software. Good compression work will give high bitrates to sections that need it and lower bitrates to sections that don't, anyways. Bring up a bitrate counter on a Funi BD and you'll see the bitrate fluctuate a lot. That's why their BDs still look good aside from their filtered upscales which are bad because of filtering and not the compression. AVC compresses softer material (which is what most anime is, even HD digital anime, and definitely 16mm anime) very well.
DBZ is also 4:3 and on BD that means that about 25% (my number may be off here) of the screen is dedicated to nothing. I'm pretty sure that modern compression software allows compressionists to set black bar areas as padding area and doesn't use up any-very little bitrate, and since there's only the remaining portion left in the center it means there's less bitrate requirements.
Funi's Level sets look pretty crusty, but I'm assuming that's because of their generational prints + telecine noise from their old Spirit Datacine 2K scanner + looks like they forgot to uncheck the lowpass filter or something when compressing -- I know they use CCE for their BD compression and I've heard that it has lowpass filtering on by default. Wouldn't place the blame on episode count.

How does Amazon work? Because the stock for Boxes 5-7 keep changing. Not too long ago they had like 4 left. But now it seems that the have more.
