All you have is negative comments towards this. Maybe if you payed attention from the start, the spot where they are shooting this trailer is basically on a beach in a mountain terrain. I mean really, did you even watch the video updates or bother to check out their official website? You obviously have not yet you are constantly bashing this thing. So from this point on, your opinion means nothing.

No I watched all of it so...yeah. All I have is negative comments because this thing is illegal and looks terrible. If according to you, this forum is devoid of all criticism and subjective opinions then what's the point of even talking about anything. Unlike yourself, I'm not going to praise these guys for a picture of a dude with his shirt off by the beach.

You're too quick to assume things, didn't someone call you out on that already? Anyways, I havn't exactly gave my opinion towards this project, but if there's something new I will make a post about it. Does that mean I am praising something for informing people about it's existence? No. If that were true then I would be considered a die hard Dragonball Evolution fan seeing how I ran a site posting news on that movie's progress. People can have different opinions, but it's just hard to take someone serious when all they do is rant over the legal issues of a fan project. We get it, you are against this thing, you're like a broken record. I also like how you're judging everything from 4 set photos.

For now I am just gonna wait till the final product comes out.

Didn't Aizen from Bleach say that Evolution is ugly? The same thing can be said of many creation processes. It the end product that will matter. Of course ain't nothing wrong with being upset over what has been shown so far. I'm neutral about this project, legal and all.

What if I don't want it to happen if its just going to look retarded and no one can take the idea of a live action Dragon Ball film seriously anymore.

The actors/actresses that were hired to do this don't even suit the actual character they're going to be playing.

http://www.kandkproductions.co.uk/dbz/cast.html

Nappa (except no moustache), Yamucha, Tenshinhan (50/50) and Gohan (50/50) are the actual ones that fit for the roles.

I ain't too positive about this, but lets see how this ends up.

But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I don't understand how any of you can complain that other folks have the apparent audacity to question the legality of not just the project existing, but its entire funding process.

Many of us work in the communication, production, publication, legal, etc. fields and see this type of activity day in and day out. There are huge potential ramifications for this, and some of us might actually want to talk about it. If you want to whine that folks want to question it instead of sitting back and just being all "YAY ITZ DBZ CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME", then you are certainly looking for conversations on the wrong forum.

If you actually expect this forum or this thread to be some kind of Dragon Ball personality cult, then you're sorely mistaken. There's nothing wrong with being skeptical or critical. It would be ridiculous to blindly accept everything that comes out with a "Dragon Ball" label.

As for being thankful... thankful for what? As much as some people might be excited for this, there are also people who didn't ask for or want this, so they don't owe anything to the guys on this project.

Huh, I wasn't saying that people shouldn't complain. I was saying that people complaining or not eating everything DBZ is a part of human nature and telling people not to complain is futile.

Its human nature to not take everything thrown at them, it has been that way before before DBZ and it will be that way after it. Perhaps using nitpick was a wrong word choice. Apologize for being too general again with my posts.

Thank you for saying this. My own opinions about the project's quality aside, there are still blatant legal ramifications on the table here for these guys. I work professionally and exclusively in this realm. It has been very disheartening to come on here and see people supporting the "turn around and don't look" approach of just letting it go.

I've enjoyed a few of the debates back and forth about the legality of the project and there is no way I'm personally going to sit back and not question it like others simply because its "DBZ". That's the main reason I'm not sitting back. Despite the naiveté of some of the people here on this forum, the series we know and love has been used in what can legally be considered a criminal act of copyright infringement. If everyone here is willing to just "let that fly", then this forum has lost its meaning as a place to have intelligent discussions.

Agreed, I'd rather they not make it at all if they are using these actors, because obviously this is going to be looked at as an example of what live action dbz would look like and will most likely go viral if its decent, but of course I'll still watch it to make a final judgment. As much as I find it lame too take the legality of it into your own hands like some kind of cyber cop I encourage it for the possibility they can't make this :\

No, what's lame is two guys in England are breaking the law and getting "support" by people who don't know any better. Probably the same people who put $$ in their hands.

Their response to an OVERLOAD of comments about copyright infringement on their youtube pages:

"this is a fan made film and we are making no profit from it. Plus we are not using any matieral owned by FOX. This is called fair usage and it is compleltey legal. Hence huge fan films like, Hunt for Gollum, Street Fighter and the first Mortal combat clip."

They failed to mention using footage OWNED by Toei and FUNimation etc. for their preview video which was titled "The Animated Version" of their film. How idiotic can things get?

As I work in this division for a production company on the east coast, I can tell you now 100% that they will immediately lose any court case by trying to claim "Fair Usage". Fair Usage would only be applicable to this project if a) they didn't publically "make" money b) they didn't use any footage from the ACTUAL series and finally c) they would need to legally document each and every penny spent from ALL funds made. The fact that they even mentioned those other fan films shows that they do not understand what exactly they are doing. Thus, from a business and professional standpoint, I have no respect for these dimwits.

Now, for all the whiners who are hating on the fact that educated people in this field are using big words, let's put it simple:

They gonna get sued.

I agree! That is a huge mistake! As far as we know, they pocketed all the money. These guys should know the rules of production making but they don't. How silly of them really (and for those who donated).
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Agreed. Unfortunately for ALL of the production members involved, they can also be brought into court and tried for participating but usually tend to get away with negligence while the producers who set up the IndieGoGo account and YouTube account will find no such treatment. They clearly knew about Fair Usage and tried to push it up to and way past its definition. I really do hope that any crew or actors who aren't aware of this policy aren't hurt financially or career-wise by this massive blunder by their employer.

I'm pretty sure that's just some promotional shot and NOT an actual screenshot/scene from the trailer.

Plenty of people make fan-trailers/clips/etc on YouTube using footage from the series, and many of them have never been taken down or hell even sued for the matter.

Well of course plenty of people put up fan-made projects on video sharing sites, and of course the vast majority of them aren't even taken down, never mind sued out of existence. You can't point to that "fact" and somehow expect the conversation to be over, though. This is a completely different type of project.

Granted, I haven't read a single tidbit of information about it other than what I casually see tossed around here on the forum and popping up in my news feeds (I just have no interest...), but I think I've got enough of a grasp to at least partially-edjamacatedly respond to things like this.

One of the main differences is the scale of the project -- they're not just a bunch of fans doing it just to put it up and have fun. I'm sure it's fun for them, but it jumped to the next level once production values were thrown into the mix. That's going to catch some attention from rights holders. The next was obviously the funding sources -- most people doing fan-made videos don't go soliciting fandom for the capital to produce the darn thing. That's numero dos that's going to catch the attention of rights holders.

The other thing that's going to potentially piss off rights holders is how these producers have no ties to the property in any way, even in the vaguest sense of the professional realm. At least with Mortal Kombat Rebirth, Kevin Tancharoen was a legitimate director that brought in legitimate, well-known actors and other talent with the specific purpose of pitching the production to the actual rights holders -- and as far as I know, was completely self-funded. These "Saiyan Saga" people...? Who are they again?

Just because other people make little fan projects and "get away with it" doesn't give anyone carte blanche to make what they want how they want to do it. I understand that in the grand scheme of things it's probably just a harmless little project, but it's crossed that line where they in all likelihood otherwise wouldn't have had to worry about anything once solicited funding came into the mix. The best they could have hoped for earlier would have been something like the case with Nintendo and the fan-made Zelda film where the company kept quiet until a day or so after its release, and then it was announced that it had been requested that the producers take down the video -- it was a case of "we understand this is probably harmless, but this is kinda our property and you can't just make stuff with it".

(And I'm not even BOTHERING to get into using actual materials from the actual franchise to pitch/advertise the production...)
