Which Inserts Were Removed?

Post by Gozar » Mon May 21, 2012 4:19 pm

I'm debating with myself as to if I'm going to sell my Parts 3 and 4 after I buy "Season Two". To be blunt, I feel that the Yamamoto score became uninteresting and lackluster after the Saiyan Arc. The only good part of the Freeza Arc's music is the Insert Songs in my opinion. I have every intention of keeping my Yamamoto Season One, but like I said, may sell Parts 3 and 4.

So I ask you, which of the Insert Songs were removed from the first 52 Episodes of Kai for the Kikuchi re-release? Sorry, I honestly haven't been following this whole music fiasco as closely as others.

I know Saiyan Blood was taken out, but I don't think the others were. News of the Cell Game, too, but that's never been released on the FUNi discs, obviously.

Saiyan Blood was the only one.

They did list "News of the Cell Game" on the ED2 credits, IIRC.

My Part 4 with Kikuchi says otherwise.

I also remember 'Only a Chilling Elegy' is still there in the Kikuchi replacement score.

This looks like the right thread to post this question:

In the scene where Goku gets the Senzu bean at the hospital, heals up, and starts talking about his plans to head straight for Namek, in the original version an instrumental of Dragon Soul was playing and it really did a lot for that scene. Was that removed from the Kikuchi version? If so, what's in its place?

Since we're on this topic, is the Ginyu force song removed? I love both English and Japanese versions of that, if it is I'm just glad I have the original releases.

The song is not removed because it has nothing to do with Yamamoto. Only the songs composed by him got removed.

Yeah, but they kept Dragon Soul. That's why I'm wondering if they kept the instrumental in the show.

They only kept Dragon Soul for the opening and eyecatchers I believe because the Goku montage had the orchestral version removed, which I'm guessing would be the same for all other cases.

If it's the same as the recap, probably this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MftGzchwCc

Someone with the Season Set would know better so don't take my word for it.

The piece got replaced with M1716: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjXlsYyuCwU#t=12m19s (12:19)

As Gonstead said, the orchestra version of Dragon Soul is completely removed as well. The song Dragon Soul itself was composed by a different person and Yamamoto only did the arrangement, but the orchestra version contains long melodies added by Yamamoto in the bridge, so it cannot be used. I think it's kind of overkill though.

Is Funimation under any legal obligation to remove Yamamoto's music from their dub? Since "I Will Defeat Frieza! Another Super Saiyan!" had Kai music in it long after most of the episodes reverted to the Old Z music, it makes me wonder if Funimation was even forced to remove the music from their older episodes or if they simply did it by choice?

They had "Ebb and the Flow" removed IIRC. I don't know if "My 18th Magic" is still there for keeps.

Can anyone list all insert songs removed from the replacement version?

Toei Animation gave FUNimation the Dragon Ball Kai Blu-ray episodes to work with, dub/sub, publish on Blu-ray and DVD to release in US, and the Yamamoto Kai musical soundtrack had to be officially eradicated due to its plagiarise.

I would have liked Kai more with Yamamoto's music but it isn't possible, legally.

I'm pretty sure FUNimation is under legal obligation to remove Yamamoto's music from their dub if Toei wants them to since Toei is the company that has the final say on the matter because they own the copyrights to the show's material.

I think FUNi just never gave Nicktoons a new master with the replacement score for those episodes seeing that 57 also retains the Yamamoto score, either that or Nicktoons is just being stuborn about replacing those episodes but hey as long as those episodes still have Yamamoto I've got no complaints :P.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).
