I don't see how anybody is blaming the Ocean actors. People are talking about the hype over the entire dub, which is the collective product including the writing, music, voice-acting, and censorship.

I still don't really see any hype in regards to the entire dub. All I Often see is Funi vs. Ocean actors debates.

That is the majority, but I also see "Shuky Levi's music is so great! The Megaman music is cool!" and praise of the writing, etc. Not here, but other places. Here, I'll admit, it's pretty much just the voices.

Interestingly enough, Blue Water had also changed SFX too. I like it.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Yeah, but you also get that with rabid FUNimation dub fans, who absolutely worship the Faulconer score. The more reasonable arguments/critiques tend to get buried under the "my dub is better than yours" pissing contests.

I wonder if the fans of the Faulconer music actually are aware that the music was composed by a group of four guys and not just one (Bruce).

"Bruce Faulconer is the best" but what about Scott, Julius and Michael?

After typing Bruce Faulconer Last.fm came up and some really odd comments:
'Japanese soundtrack >' if you're looking for it, I feel bad for you, it is worthless. Hail Bruce.
Hm, what...? :?

and..
Bruce Faulconer is internationally recognized for a children's TV show, that's saying something. Although not entirely for children it's dialogue was adapted for them and was the biggest demographic. That doesn't mean older people don't watch it though.
I don't know what this guy means by "internationally" when the Faulconer Productions soundtrack was only used in the US DBZ dub. Maybe internationally as in US DBZ dub.

It's cool that they prefer the FP music, I like to listen to the FP soundtrack sometimes too, but insulting the original? That's quite degrading, I'd like to know what kind of mentality these 'guys' have, seriously, why can't they enjoy all DB's music composers.

By the way, Attitudefan, awesome find! :)

Thanks!I watched the Blue Water DB back in the day but don't remember all the fine details to it. I thought that new sfx sounded sweet.

Oh yeah, internet US dub fans are really outspoken. Lots of them go to other videos, blogs and basically anything on the net relating to DB to insult the other parts of the fan base and praise theirs. It's so uncalled for.

Hell, I bet if it was me talking to them face to face, I'm sure they do not have the guts to insult me with the words they use. Just a bunch of cowards trying to start trouble; they dis other peoples hard work so they can put their fandom on a higher pedestal.

Speaking of sfx, I remember the first time I watched a clip of SSJ4 Goku taking Bebi Vegeta's punches then laughing them off in the Japanese version, I thought the punch sound effects were very bland and old sounding, not very convincing. The Blue Water dub of that scene changed the sfx to updated, modern punch sfx which sound much better. So, there are instances where changing the sfx from the original can improve the product.

I like a lot of the new sfx Ocean added in their DBZ dub, although Blue Water didnt have anywhere near as much new sfx as Ocean did, they did use one of the best new sfx, the "scene changer" sfx.

Eh, I like some of the voices, such as the few they had for Goku and Saffron Henderson as Gohan, but I think the rest are sorta overrated. I also didn't like how the recording during the original FUNi days of '96-'98 sounded very... loud and "hissy." Shuki Levy's music just seemed to drone in the background. Can't really say I enjoyed it much...
VegettoEX wrote:I know I sound like a broken record when I mention that stuff, but I just saw a conversation on another forum just today where someone explained how their mind was blown and they had to go punch their friends in the faces for insisting for so many years that 1996-1998 had nothing to do with FUNimation what-so-ever (with links back to Kanzenshuu, which is how I found it all :P).
By any chance, would you mean this? http://board.sonicstadium.org/topic/116 ... ntry485583

If so, I cannot believe that you found that. Haha. He put up a fight, all right. :P

The dubs are way too easy Mike. I'm sticking to one dub or the other.

Your response does not make any sense. No-one understands what you are talking about in any post you ever make. You are completely incomprehensible.

Can someone please explain this to him in proper French? Or whatever language he speaks?

I agree with Shuki's music. I know he did a good job doing "Rock the Dragon" in 1996 butt that song is a most recognizable theme in the English dub. I prefer that theme over the Westwood-altered one.

Going back to the sfx thing. I never liked that they added in those Ocean/Blue Water dubs. I felt that the sfx, and some of those voices, made the show sound like a generic action cartoon you can find on 4kids or Jetix....if that's even still around.
