Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
The lack of region coding, the use of abbreviated form of FUNimation's old DBZ logo, and 17 episodes per disc (if it's only 9 discs) all scream bootleg.

From what I am reading, it's a 26 DVD set. I also noticed YesAsia is selling a similar set as well. OddGaffer Tape wrote:The lack of region coding, the use of abbreviated form of FUNimation's old DBZ logo, and 17 episodes per disc (if it's only 9 discs) all scream bootleg.

I'm not seeing anything about English subtitles in that description, but a "Region ALL" DVD set from Japan is just unheard of. Aside from what others above have said, that seems to be a Japanese bootleg (as opposed to the usual Chinese bootleg).

I think it might be a korean release as the details mention Japanese Audio and Korean Subtitles. YesAsia sells a similar one.. which is why I am confused lol

24 disc look under Dragon ball logo says 24 disc
Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
9 DVD volumes in 1 boxset.
153 Episodes.
17 episodes divided over 3 discs per volume.
It's entirely possible and if the quality is decent, all the more.

Sounds like a bootleg to me although the fact that it's not a chinese bootleg "for once" does have me interested.Gonstead wrote:9 DVD volumes in 1 boxset.
Well at least it's the whole DB series.Gonstead wrote:153 Episodes.
This caught my attention if my memory is right the original DBOX (and singles) spanned 26 discs, but if you do the math and each volume has 3 discs that would mean the whole thing would be 27 discs in total, something that is very weird and uncommon for a bootleg (especially since most bootleggers compress the videos to fit on as few discs as possible).Gonstead wrote:17 episodes divided over 3 discs per volume.
I agree i'll try and get ahold of a box just to see what exactly we're dealing with here.Gonstead wrote:It's entirely possible and if the quality is decent, all the more.
Edit: I just checked the image of the bottom of the box and it says 26 discs so the last vol must only have 2 discs.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

17 episodes a disc?! I want to see this just to see how godawful the quality is.

Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
Actually it wouldn't be 17 episodes per disc, the reason I say this is because according to the description each vol has 3 discs (except the last volume which would only have 2 discs since the whole thing says it has 26 discs altogether) and since each volume has 17 episodes they would split the episodes with the first 2 disc's of each volume (save the last volume) having 6/7 episodes max and the last disc of each volume having 5/4.jjgp1112 wrote:17 episodes a disc?! Huh, what happen to the auctions?LettuceJUMP wrote:I've been able to track them all down on ebay, these sets are the best!
I found a top seller selling a whole bunch of different dragon boxes:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/wellwhatdoicare ... 4340.l2562
The seller's Dragon Box Z Vol. Two was hours ago at $150 and now it's all gone, maybe he decided to keep the Dragon Boxes Z instead of selling them.
However, I still do not see how people are willing to spend so much money on these Dragon Boxes Z, they're not even the originals but replicas. The boxes have some serious issues due to not been glued properly everywhere, and discs even if it comes sealed there's a chance they'll come with light scratches.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
I personally do see it as a waste of money, but is some minor gluing issues on the first box or two really a "serious" issue?
Like I said, I think it is a huge waste of money, though I suppose it is still cheaper than importing the singles, and it comes with subtitles.

Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
For display purposes the paper issues ruin it, I guess the US Dragon Boxes Z aren't really for displaying but archiving only.
I'm thinking of glueing the pieces up that FUNimation didn't and print the rear to stick to Dragon Box Z Vol. 3 as when I first got it, I accidentally ripped it off with the pamphlet that was on it.
No one should be paying more than $50 or $60 at max for these FUNimation Dragon Boxes Z, honestly.

Re: FUNimation's Dragon Boxes have indeed been discontinued
For those of you curious about the video quality of that Korean bootleg of DB someone from Korea bought a similar set and took a few screenshots which you can see here: http://anipage.tistory.com/652, honestly the video quality doesn't look too bad IMO.

Even though it's just a bootleg, that packaging looks really, really nice.
