Phasing out Dragonball Z Season sets?/Lack of interest in Z?

Post by eledoremassis02 » Thu Jun 07, 2012 8:32 pm

I've been noticing something odd. And it appears others have too.

The season sets have been disappearing off of shelves.

Right after the two season set packs they begin to disappear from Walmart and have not been restocked. Target and Best Buy don't have them as well. It's been like this for a few months, at least where I live.

Anyone else seeing the same thing? Could they be phasing out the Season sets?

Phasing them out does sound hard to believe since these sets seem to be very popular with the general public..

Could they possibly be putting them on Blu-ray? (I hope not!!)

When I was at Walmart one day, I was looking around, I didn't see any of those sets that come in the new packaging. Hell, I didn't really see much of Dragon Ball at all, so maybe it's just my local one.

You mean the double season packs?

Also, are the part sets newer than the double season sets? I have never seen them at my walmart.

The only Dragon Ball related item at my Walmart is the complete GT set..and they only have one of them (this inclused that Dragonball movie  )

Last time I checked, Walmart had plenty of season sets on their shelves. They even had two seasons wrapped together for sale. Now, they didn't look like the pic Pokewhiz7 posted but they were like two Orange Bricks wrapped together.

Since they are the only complete Dragon Ball Z dvd release on store shelves (damn shame...), it's only natural that they would sell well.

These must be the ones your talking about

Image

These are the ones I saw too. I assume there just two normal season sets put together in one cover slip?

It also maybe possible that there liquidating the larger sets for the broken up season sets (I hope not..)

Hmm...the ones I saw were two separate season box sets wrapped together, not put into one cover slip like your image shows.

Hmm that's odd. Perhaps they are making room for something else?

Or, it's Walmart just doing there own thing. Not surprising...

Dragon Boxes will never be on Walmart shelves. Blu-ray releases ain't coming any time soon, if ever...

Perhaps they are just making room for more season sets.

That's true. It's just odd that some Walmarts have custom cases and some don't.

Not expecting the Dragon Boxes at all lol...

though I wonder if the season set parts are going to replace the season sets?

Yeah, there's hardly anything Dragon Ball-related in my local Walmart anymore, when not long ago, they used to have all of the Orange Bricks, along the with GT Complete Series, all of the Blue Bricks, and several of the Kai two-packs. Now they just have the Season Seven and Eight brick, the new Season One Part One and S1/P2, and the GT set. No Kai, no original Dragon Ball...

It's not DBZ that's disappearing, it's anime in general. The anime shelves at retail stores have shrunk over time. Sometimes DBZ is the only thing available, and now even that's going? Yikes.

Aren't the orange bricks the most popular version of the show on sale? It's certainly the cheapest way to get the show, is more available, and has all the audio options. In comparison, the Dragon Boxes are limited and out of reach and the newer Blu-Rays were put on halt. I can imagine the orange bricks sell quite well, despite them being crap.

Hardly they'll be phasing out the Orange Bricks since they offer 291 episodes at a reasonable low price, with three audio tracks, i.e, FUNimation's English dub with Original DBZ Music, US Replacement and Japanese audio.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_scat_ ... 0a8295b32a

And for the casual fan the 16x9 and PQ problems aren't really an issue for them, as you can see on Amazon, YouTube, IMDb and other places they love the OBs with all their heart despite how bad the PQ is.

Btw, even if a Blu-ray version of the Orange Bricks were to be released, it wouldn't be as successful as the OBs on DVD were.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

True, but if they put the OB's on Blu-ray (theoretically), I wonder what the price would be? There have been a lot of cheap Blu-rays these days..sometimes cheaper than the DVD counterpart.

Phasing out the Dragon Ball Z season sets is the best thing that could happen to Dragon Ball fans.

A better release must be on the horizon...

if not, then fuck...

It's funny the only thing stores around me have are season sets. However, Target and Best Buy usually only have the later seasons (7-9). I haven't been to an FYE in awhile but last time I was there they were flood with the damn things both new and used. They couldn't get them off the shelves. Annoyingly the things I want(the Dragon boxes) are gone. I can't get them anywhere and I refuse to drop $100 bucks on each of them.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

You mean aside from a full redub?

Amazon doesn't seem to imply limited quantities. Same with RightStuf.

Probably the reason you're seeing the OBs disappear from retail shelves is because of the split Season "Parts" that Pokewhiz posted a picture of. Retailers don't want to stock big box sets if they don't have to. I assumed that the split OBs were a Wal-Mart exclusive, but maybe that's the way they'll be at all stores now?

How many episodes does each Season X Part X have?

Goku's design they have on the set it's better than on the original OB-S2. IMO.

Well, there's no online listing on walmart.com, but I remember reading here awhile back that it was just three of the six OB discs repackaged into standard cases. So it's just half of the original brick.

They should've gone back into standard titles like in Season 6: Part 2 Disc three (Cell Games: Nightmare's End :P)
