Yeah, I agree. Definitely not what I was expecting, but not disappointing at all.
And doesn't Grade 3 have the same power output as Super Saiyan 2 anyway?

I think both versions of the show said that the power output was similar, but I've always gotten the feeling that SS2 is actually stronger overall as well. But they're probably pretty close.

Ah, right.
Something else I noticed though, looking back a couple of pages- South Kaioshin and Dabra look... remarkably similar.

Huh, a unique and interesting take on a character.

I thought Trunks only transformed into a regular Super Saiyan? His muscles don't look engorged.

Dude, his muscles are huge in that panel of him holding onto Vegeta's wrist. Just look at his biceps and compare them to the previous panel showing them.
Or his hands.

Hmm...actually, Daimao may have a point, slightly. His muscles are definitely more engorged in those last few panels then they were before, but they're not quite to THIS point yet.
But looking at his temple, he's got one of those stressed, pulsing veins, going on. So maybe he's just mid-transformation at this point. I think he's definitely on his way to the form at any rate, based on Vegeta's reaction.

Hmm...yeah, now I see it. He does look quite a bit larger than Vegeta. It's probably because I'm used to seeing his Super Saiyan Grade III in Saiyan armour.

It looks like he's about to cut down Vegeta, judging from the bottom panel....

I guess that he came to the realisation that in his 3rd form he can't catch his opponant...however grabbing them then transforming is another way to go about it.

Interestin' turn of events. I wonder if Trunks can switch between forms on the turn of a dime now, allowing him to change from speed to power or something.

Meh, I don't like it. Grade III is a crappy form, and Trunks abandoned it to master the Super Saiyan form like the others. Why go back and master Grade III when it is inferior? And if he went to the effort to do that, why wouldn't he aim for SS2 instead, which is far superior?

I'm loving this turn of events, but the artwork is still sorely lacking. I guess I was just spoiled after re-reading the Vegetto vs. Broly pages, which were drawn amazingly.

We don't know what Salagir has in his mind about which of the two forms is stronger.

I'm not talking about which one is stronger, since we don't know that, but we know from the canon story that SS2 is superior.
Of course that wouldn't matter to Salagir either I suppose.

He ignores the 10x multiplier for Oozaru, and I think even the 50x multiplier for Super Saiyan. Both of them are from Toriyama.

Only 10 years have passed from Trunks point of view and, like he said, he has been busy rebuilding the world. Vegeta has been training for 30 years and he hasn't been busy with nothing else.
Those are the reasons why Trunks hasn't reached SSJ2 yet. If he trained as hard as his father, 10 years would probably be enough for him to reach the form (since Vegeta did it within 7 years) but he has been busy like he said.
But he also has been training, he has improved, and even though he still hasn't reached SSJ2, he has developed his techniques, including the Grade forms, to be more effective.
