What's the opinion of Japanese DB Kai viewers?
Concerning the Japanese cast, Yamamoto mix and Kikuchi mix?
I've noticed two people reviewed DBZ Kai Season One over at the Japanese Amazon so they must've somehow enjoyed listening to Kikuchi's Cell BGMs on the Saiyan-Frieza arcs.

As far as I know, most of the educated fans in Japan seemed not to like Recoom's new voice and the Yamamoto score. Especially, the Yamamoto score was fiercely disliked by old fans, who grew up hearing Kikuchi's music not only on the Dragon Ball series but so many anime/tokusatsu shows. When Toei acknowledged the scandal and began to replace the score, actually, over 90% of folks on the 2ch board and my online friends seemed to be very happy about the news (I'm not exaggerating, really). They spoke the same sentence at the same time: "They should have used the Kikuchi score from the beginning".dbboxkaifan wrote:Concerning the Japanese cast, Yamamoto mix and Kikuchi mix?
As for the replacement score, I haven't read/heard enough opinions to make a comment on how they generally feel because there still have been no reprints of the pre-scandal volumes of the Japanese release with the replacement score, and Fuji has never re-broadcast Kai on their terrestrial channel, Fuji TV, so most of the fans in Japan still haven't heard the Kikuchi mix of early episodes yet.

I do find it interesting how Sasaki Seiji hasn't been well received as Reacoom. I guess it just goes to show the effect the original casting had on the fans. I have to wonder if it was done strictly as a a cost-cutting maneuver or because production wanted to slowly break in a new cast as the old one began to retire or pass.
It's a shame, though. Sasaki is a great actor, but he really was miscast as Reacoom.

I guess the Japanese fans can be just as stubborn as the American ones (who wondered why Faulconer's music wasn't in Kai).
I have to admit that I prefer Kikuchi's work to Yamamoto's, but Yamamoto's work was quite good in Kai, despite (or maybe because, lol) plagiarism.

He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Have any of the Japanese fans ever said anything about Funimations dub of Kai?
Re: What's the opinion of Japanese DB Kai viewers?
I saw some people saying the same thing on 2ch, and I agree to the opinion. He is a good actor, but he was miscast and not directed well. Guess who miscast and couldn't properly direct him? It's Yukio Nagasaki. He sure was the second worst person among the Kai staff IMO. (There's no need to say who's the worst, I guess.)JulieYBM wrote:It's a shame, though. I've never heard of any sentiments or opinions except for some nonsense like "It sounds cool 'cause it's English".ringworm128 wrote:Have any of the Japanese fans ever said anything about Funimations dub of Kai?

Wow, Nagasaki was in charge or casting and directing? Huh. That'd certainly explain the over all terrible job then. Man has no tone in his ear.kei17 wrote:I saw some people saying the same thing on 2ch, and I agree to the opinion. He is a good actor, but he was miscast and not directed well. One of my personal favorite quips about Kai's score is, "I loved Howard Shore's score for Kai."penguintruth wrote:I have to admit that I prefer Kikuchi's work to Yamamoto's, but Yamamoto's work was quite good in Kai, despite (or maybe because, lol) plagiarism.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

You know, he was 音響監督 (onkyou kantoku, sound director). In the anime industry, sound directors cast seiyuu and are in charge of sound recordings and sometimes music placement, too.JulieYBM wrote:Wow, Nagasaki was in charge or casting and directing? Huh. Re: What's the opinion of Japanese DB Kai viewers?
Huh. Kanzentai's translation ('audio director') had me thinking he was more or less in charge or coordinating the different parts of audio, not so much being involved with the actual work. Well now, that's certainly something to remember.
It's too bad they didn't hire 小松亘弘/Komatsu Nobuhiro, who was Audio Director for the original run of shows, specials, and movies.
