Similarities between Chrono Trigger and Dragon Ball

Post by theawesomepossum777 » Sat Jun 23, 2012 8:23 pm

I know that Toriyama only did the art for the game. However, I see some similarities that does not involve the art of the game. So, let's start!

*Spoiler Alert*

1. It seems like Buma's personality is divided into two in Chrono Trigger. Marle has Bulma's adventurous personality, and Lucca has Bulma's genius.

2. Frog is kind of like Trunks. Other then them both having swords, they both have similar backstories. They both look up to this brave person, and that person goes and gets himself killed trying to fight evil. They both go under a huge transformation. I could go on and on about this similarity.

3. The Prehistoric humans and reptiles in Chrono Trigger are kind of like the Saiyans and Freeza. Azaela occasionally calls Ayla and the other humans "apes."

Try to find more!

Chrono Trigger is the greatest video game of all time and Dragon Ball is... also good.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed similarities between Bulma and Luca. In fact I could so see Luca being voiced by Monica Rial.

Do the reptiles look like dinosaurs? Because I'm pretty sure that Freeza and co. are carnivorous triceratops.

#16 and Robo have a similar "Robot that is compassionate and ethical" trait going on.

Crono and Cell games Gohan have similar designs, they would have the same hair if their backs weren't different. (Crono has a spiky back, while Gohan has a shaven one) and their color.

Gokuu and Crono share a similar hero archetype and both have indulgences (Goku's food craze and Crono typically seen sleeping/napping).

Magus and Vegeta share the same "Dick anti hero" personality.

Ayla and Lunch have very similar designs, mostly the hair.

Frog and Piccolo both play the serious lancer (And their both green :D ).

Both contain....non permanent deaths....to an extant anyway.

- Both involve time travel to prevent a terrible future from happening

- Both have a great evil inside the planet for millions of years

I've always thought Magus looked like a Vegeta and Dabura fusion >_>

Luminaire is kind similar to the Genkidama pose.
Magus = Fusion of Piccoro and Vegeta. lol
Time travel .... several confusing timelines.

Ayla = Launch as a Saiyan. xD

The three sages pretty much remind me of Kaios.

Not Chrono Trigger, but I've just spotted SSJ Gohan on Dragon Quest cover.

We can also do a ''Dragon Ball characters in non-dragon ball games and franchises designed by Toriyama''
FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat: Funky_Strudel
PS5: Dynamixx88
Trust me, I'm millenial and a designer.

Masa and Mune (Grand and Leon?) both do the fusion dance later on in the game.

Surprised this wasn't one of the first things mentioned. :)

Also, it always seemed like the human design for Kaeru from the PSX exclusive ending was just them re-using GT Vegeta's model sheet with green hair and some clothing changes.
