The wish to restore those who were killed by Cell

The wish to restore those who were killed by Cell

Why weren't King Kai and his companions wished back to life?

Apparently, Kaiou (and, presumably, Bubbles) wanted to stay dead to "keep Gokuu company", whatever that's supposed to mean.

It could be that Boo is considered a "demon", so their souls float in another dimensions for eternity. Or that they tried to fight Boo again after their death, so they ceased to exist.

I don't know, but it do seems he is making GOku company:

Maybe Goku wanted to go somewhere else besides his small planet these 7 years, and Kaio can only leave his duty as Kaio if he dies;?

I presume that when Pure Boo killed the North and West Kaioushin, they got back up with haloes and then were instantly killed again, disappearing from existence altogether.

Kaiou's planet had been destroyed and was never seen restored, and it never seemed as if Kaiou just left his duty upon death. Maybe he still overlooked the north galaxy from Heaven.

I always imagined the rules would be pretty lax, since Kaiou was seen casually napping in the Cell arc, so I doubt anyone would really check up on him. But then again, we don't know that much about the afterlife and how it works. In the manga, we never even see Hell.

But I doubt Gokuu, of all people, would really be that lonely, since he'd been fighting all those great martial arts masters from history anyway. He could always pop back and visit Kaiou anyway.

I never thought about this before. East Kaioshin of course barely lives, and the South and Dai Kaioshin get absorbed. West and North Kaioshin were obviously killed, though they should then still exist with halos. Since, in the end, they don't exist at all, it's possible that they confronted Boo again and died trying...

Technically, Goku killed Kaio and Co. along with himself. Cell was just the bomb.

Even so, it seems that Shenron bases who gets wished back on what being actually did the killing. Even though it was Goku's actions that brought Cell to Kaiou's planet, it was still Cell that killed them. Goku was more of an enabler than the actual culprit.

If a nuclear bomb kills thousands of people, who is the culprit: the engineers who built the bomb; the president who pressed the red button; the pilot who tossed the bomb; the messenger who sent the order to the pilot?

Hardly applicable when comparing to Cell who is actually a living creature responsible for his own actions compared to a mechanical bomb built by somebody which can fall into the hands of anybody for their own use.

Cell is the one who is responsible for causing his self-destruction. Whatever is caught in the blast is effectively killed by Cell.

In other words, it would be like wishing for everyone killed by the bomb to be restored, right? But hey, if the Namekian Elder can be brought back to life with a wish to restore those killed by Freeza because of something as indirect as him dying of grief, I wouldn't be surprised if both the wish to restore "those killed by Cell" and "those killed by Goku" could both bring Kaio back.

Most people probably know this already, but Goku specifically says that Kaio could have been brought back by the wish in question if he'd wanted to.

I've always been a bit vague on this point, but isn't Kaio's planet in heaven anyway? It seems the only way to get to it (outside of Instantaneous Movement) is to die, and you get there from Emma's place. I can't see any reason why a living Kaio wouldn't have been able to show Goku around.

No. Kaio's Planet is in Kaio Realm, where the 4 Kaio Planets exist. Heaven is a huge planet in AfterLife.

Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. But you only get to Heaven by dying, and then you can only get to Kaio's planet via Snake Way (unless you can teleport), so... yeah, I don't get why he had to stay dead.

When you die, you go to AfterLife. The AfterLife is divided into three parts: Kaio Realm, Enma Realm and Hell. At Kaio Realm, there are 6 planets: The Dai Kaio's Planet, 4 Kaio's Planets and Heaven. At Enma Realm there is Enma Daio's Mansion, where everyone that dies goes first.

Other supernatural beings and humans are shown to be able to make the trip there, like Uranai Baba.

As I understand, Karin and Mr. Popo are also from that realm, so there's that too.

I need to check the manga again, as well as look at the episode in Japanese, but I remember in the dub, they explained it as the wish being to revive everyone on Earth killed by Cell. Since King Kai, Bubbles and Gregory weren't from Earth, they were missed. Though even after what Goku said about being kept company, I still think they could've revived King Kai with the second wish.

Cells actions were to kill everyone on Earth because he was losing, Goku interfered with his action and took him to King Kai's planet. Cell didn't want to destroy King Kai's planet and only kill Goku. I would treat this as Goku killing himself, King Kai and Bubbles.

Kaio's planet, Enma's place, planet Heaven, and Hell are all locations in the afterlife, so yes, there doesn't seem to be any real reason Kaio had to be dead to keep Goku company. I suppose this raises the question of whether he was still technically the North Kaio at that point or not. I mean, there doesn't seem to be any reason he can't continue his duty, but Kaio are supposedly replaced by a lottery when they die. If even death isn't enough to make them give up their position, then wouldn't they keep that position forever? Maybe Kaio wouldn't be able to keep Goku company if he were alive because he wouldn't be allowed to abandon his post?

But like I said, Goku flat out says that Kaio could have been revived by the wish, but chose not to be. And I'm pretty sure the wish was to restore everyone killed by Cell, not just those on Earth.
